Danel folded his arms as surveyed the unusual landscape before him. He had responded to a job request he had seen at an inn on his travels. Terra - another world mysteriously connected to Gaia, inhospitable and deadly to Gaian people. Or perhaps, he mused, that should have read 'normal Gaian people', as Danel knew he hardly fitted that category. Deepground training had made him more than capable of achieving feats that would kill ordinary humans, although it was hardly a fact he was proud of. Still, the anonymous contact seemed delighted that someone was brave/stupid enough to attempt to fulfill the contract. He didn't like taking advantage of the skills and training that had been forced upon him, but by this point he badly needed the gil.
Looking around, he put a hand to his temple as the constant azure light made his head hurt a little. He wondered what exactly he would find out here, but then so did the person who had seen fit to send him out here. Taking a notepad and pencil from the small pouch he wore around his waist, he was grateful that of all the memories that had been beaten out of him, reading and writing weren't among them, although his understanding of both was rather basic. At least he had enough of an understanding to have been accepted for the job and he was at least capable of taking simple notes. He also carried a small camera in case field notes just didn't quite cut it. With no sign of life anywhere for the time being, he placed the notepad and pen back into the pouch and instead took out the camera. at least for now he could snap some shots of the strange alien landscape.
With a loud yawn, he woke up and stretched before making himself a humble breakfast (oatmeal and coffee). This served to pass some time, before he had to get back to the task at hand. Grabbing a set of binoculars, he peered through them down at the wasteland. He could just about make out Danel standing there jotting down notes in his notepad. His employers had hired Susano'o as a guardian angel figure, someone that would provide protection and safety in dangerous areas without the other party knowing. And that is why he found himself in his current predicament. Setting the binoculars back onto the table, he grabbed his files and took another look at Danel's record. His record was above par. Competent, and efficient at the tasks he'd been given. And he had Deepground training too. Perhaps this would turn out to be a good day for Susano'o. All too frequently, he found that he was babysitting people that turned out to be complete cowards.
Crawling back into his camouflaged hideout, he reflected for a moment. His abilities and skillsets were well suited to this line of work. This was the life of a ghost. He worked for employers, be they big companies or minorities. But in the event of a contract, he got captured, they would deny all existence of him. Not neccesarily a bad thing. Susano'o wasn't a big believer in working with others. That added an element of danger to the whole thing. It also made it borderline impossible to trust those companies and minorities. Among the many tools he had in his arsenal, his grasp of the mystic arts was the most closely guarded. It made assignments like this considerably easier. He didn't have to pay exorbitant amounts of money to purchase equipment. Closing his eyes, he began chanting and channeling a smal amount of energy within his body. This was a routine part of the day. He passed on his reports using his arts. It was safer that way. Noone, unless they were highly trained would be able to intercept those reports.
It was interesting to observe people from afar. Danel proved to serve the previous thought true. He had just put his notepad back, and was taking pictures with his camera. Perhaps this contract would be a short one. Spotting something glinting in the distance, Susano'o shook his head. Fat chance of that. There wasn't just glinting either, now there was smoke, and he could tell from his vantage point that Danel had seen it too. Looks like this barren wasteland wasn't so barren after all.
OOC:Danel, you have the opportunity now to pack up your equipment, and go to investigate the smoke in the distance, or you can head back to camp. If you opt to go investigate, it will lead to a fight.
that the eyes that see my sin, would look on me with love and watch me rise again

As he continued to survey the area, Danel let out a yawn. This was actually a really boring assignment, but at least the reward at the end would be satisfactory. That is, if he got what he had been promised, but he had ways of getting what he wanted that he actually wasn't all that keen on using. This job was dull but not too difficult, save for the moments when he seemed to forget how to write and cursed into the barren air. At least skills such as basic reading and writing were coming back to him gradually, but it would take a while yet for him to recover what Shin-ra had stolen from him.
Shaking these thoughts from him for now, he wondered if he had enough data for the mission to be considered complete. It would take him a while to decipher his own scrawled hand writing, so he would need to return to small camp he had set up in order to be able to take his time in analyzing it. At least the photographs had turned out okay, he couldn't help but notice as he scanned through the digital camera. Pictures told a thousand words and in this case might just cover for his bad handwriting. Without meaning to be arrogant, he wondered if his past life had involved photography as these seemed pretty good!
Putting his equipment back into it's pouch, he was again broken from his thoughts as he noticed some kind of smoke cloud appearing from the distance. He had thought that this land was completely devoid of animal life, sentient or otherwise, so naturally he was curious. Not just that, but it might even aid him in his research here if he investigated. He hadn't heard anything, or indeed anyone, so for all he knew it could be some kind of mini volcano or something. As he moved closer to the smoke, he wondered if he should use his invisibility, but decided against it for now. It would only drain his strength and he couldn't help but feel he may need it.
The smell grew progressively stronger as he made his way closer to the source of the flames. That age old smell of soot, fire and destruction. It could be likened to that of a double edged sword. The smoke itself could indicate a campsite. If it was a campsite, then surely he would be able to obtain information or rumours that would aid his assignment. But it could also be caused by an uncontrolled fire. If it was the latter, most options of why a fire would break out in such a god forsaken place like this weren't promising. Advancing cautiously, he would find the need to eat his earlier decision to not use invisibility. He had indeed gotten near enough to the source of the flames to see what the cause was. It was a camp, if it could be called that. But it was torn apart, not in a haphazard way, but in a way that suggested the culprits were searching for something. What drew his eye though was the source of the smoke. Piled unceremoniously on top of each other were the owners of the camp, all in various states of death. With one exception, a middle aged man tried to escape past a blonde haired woman. He'd barely gotten past her before she lashed out with her sword, tearing a gash from his hip up to his neck, felling him instantly in a haze of blood. Wiping her sword clean, she turned to her men.
'The artifact must be here. These are the ones that stole it from us in the first place, are they not? Spread out and search everywhere. We will not return home empty handed or grim faced. We will retrieve it, and prove the might of the soldiers of Briggs.'
Susano'o was also not far from the site, having packed up his posessions some time back and rapidly moving closer. He had heard this woman speak. He could tell a variety of things. This woman was well suited for command, and her men respected her without question. That would make the job very interesting indeed. He knew from experience that men who had a leader like that would fight ferociously. He could only guess at what would be running through Danel's mind right now. From the profile he'd read up on prior to this contract, he could tell that Danel was a man of honor. That would stand to reason then, that seeing this atrocity, he would feel the need to jump in and put a stop to it. If that option came up, then Susano'o wouldn't hesitate to assist, albeit from a covert approach.
OOC: A patrol is returning back to the base camp, which will bring them near your position. You can choose to engage them which will initiate a npc fight, or try to hide until they pass.

Making his way toward the source of the smoke, the smell of death became apparent as he drew closer. All of a sudden, this seemed like a bad idea, but now wasn't the time to back down. Something was happening and he intended to get to the bottom of it.
Reaching what he found to be a camp, he hid behind one of the strange structures nearby in order to observe what was happening. The camp had been torn apart from canvas to campfire, but another blaze caught his eye. The sight of the bodies piled up and burning in their makeshift funeral pyre would have undoubtedly caused most to vomit, but his conditioning meant that he barely gave it a second thought. Perhaps he had seen this kind of atrocity before, or perhaps even worse, but for now he was more interested in who could have committed such a vile act.
His question was soon answered as he caught sight of a blonde woman attacking the last survivor, almost cleaving him in two as he fell to the ground lifeless. He could feel his adrenaline pumping as the blood spilled onto the ground below, painting it a delightful shade of crimson...and then he stopped. There he went again, and now was hardly the time. He wondered what this artifact that she and her soldiers mentioned could possibly be. It was obviously very important to them though, important enough to kill for anyway.
His curiosity piqued, Danel emerged from his hiding spot and leaned casually against the pillar that until now had been his hiding place. Perhaps this wasn't the best of ideas, but then this could even help in his own research and earn him more gil. Great, he thought to himself, now I sound like some kind of greedy mercenary.

"Having fun?", he asked coolly as he surveyed the woman and her party. They looked tough, but he was pretty sure he could handle them if need be. "Soldiers of Briggs huh...sounds interesting", he added with a smirk. Now he was probably beginning to push his look, but he was genuinely curious as to who they were and why they thought the owners of the mutilated corpses deserved to die. [/div]

Hearing someone unfamiliar calling out to herself and her men, she turned to face the unwelcome guest. Taking a quick glance at him, her mouth twisted into a cold smile. For those that knew her well, this was a colossal bad move on Danel's part. She was unpredictable, but highly skilled in swordplay. Generally things she didn't like ended up slashed to pieces. Resting her hand on her sword she looked directly into Danel's eyes and spoke.
'Hmph, you seem pretty full of yourself boy. Don't underestimate the men of Brigg's. Keep searching for the artifact, this boy's presence here is insulting to me. You five come with me. Deal with this fool now.'
At her command, five heavily armed men detached themselves from the rest, and moved to engage Danel. She had faith in the ability of her men to overpower this boy. In any case, he was a witness. And he needed to be erased before she could get back to the task at hand. No sense dragging this out, she clicked her fingers to get it started.
One of the soldiers raised his sword and shield and dashed towards Danel, while the others scattered out into a rough pentagram shape around him, effectively cutting off his avenues of escape. All of her men were trained in the use of different weapons, and all took that training seriously. Failure to uphold the ideals of Briggs, meant failing there captain. One of her men was on a higher level than the others. He was trained in the use of katana's. Buffing himself and his comrades up, he took up an offensive stance and launched himself in the air, pointing his blade at Danel, and increasing his movement speed. Just at the apex of his jump, and it appeared he would slash Danel from above, he disappeared in a haze, and reappeared behind and to the left rushing for Danel's head. At the same time, in synchronised harmony, the other four moved just as fast, disappearing and reappearing with such speed before they launched themselves at Danel from five different directions.
OOC: The fight has officially started for you now Danel. This scene is merely a live action event giving you the chance to utilise your moves, deal damage etc.

((OOC: So is this now a stat battle? If not, I'll edit the post.)) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boy? It had been a long time since he had been able to consider himself a boy, despite his young age, or a child at all for that matter, although now was not the time to muse about such things. He didn't recall outright openly underestimating anyone, although it was probably a rather easy conclusion to come to given the way he had brazenly wandered out into the open. It seemed that this woman was definitely a little on the touchy side, if not outright arrogant, a fact that was apparent by the way she simply dismissed him as a fool whose presence so openly insulted her. Still, if he was to be dealt with then he thought the least he could do was put on a show! Not that that he wasn't confident in his ability to win, far from it, but he'd perhaps been a little overconfident in stepping out in the first place.
Even in the face of this adversary, his expression never faltered as the heavily armed soldiers approached upon command from their superior. In fact, his smirk grew wider as he reached for his own rifle and looked each one up and down. Their advanced training was apparent and he was at a significant disadvantage due to their numbers. If he intended to survive then he would need to keep his wits about him. A sensible man would have run while they still had the chance, but Danel wondered if he had ever been the sensible type.
As the first and strongest looking of them rushed forward with his katanas, Danel had prepared himself to fire a shot at him when he suddenly disappeared! He lost a valuable couple of seconds tracking down the first of his foes, but caught sight of him once again to his left. Whipping himself round, he realised that all five of them where now rushing in at him from every direction, sporting a myriad of different forms of weaponry, each with the potential of killing him rather horribly if given the chance.
This would be a dire, if not impossible situation for most, but thankfully Danel had a plan. As each of them grew closer, he waited until the last possible second before disappearing from view and ducking. These soldiers weren't the only ones capable of disappearing acts and he intended to make good use of it. He still had a little room to roll to his right and out of the way of the katana wielders initial move. He couldn't stay invisible for long, a fact that he knew all too well. With this in mind, he swung his rifle in one swift motion, cracking it against the ankles of the closest soldier. As he stumbled, this allowed him to pass through and out of their trap. Hopefully, that move would at least make them regret underestimating him. Unfortunately, it would also mean that from here on out they would be giving their all, but that was fine. At least now that he was out of their trap, he could get his bearings and plan his next move. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Standing there with her hand on the hilt of her blade, she watched as her men surrounded and launched a pinpoint attack on this whelp, smiling as she was already seeing the end result of this encounter in her head. She had taken the time to personally handpick and train each and every one of her men to the highest degree. She was just about to turn and head back to coordinating the search for the artifact, when something caught her eye. Griers had just pulled off his trademark flash step move to pull up to the left of Danel, while the others did a mirror copy attack from all corners. It was then that Danel simply disappeared. Gripping her hilt with enough force to whiten her knuckles she realised that she had underestimated the skill of this boy. It was a simple enough mistake to make, given the way he carried himself.
'Griers! Look out, he's been trained in the same techniques as you. Keep your guard up.'
She had barely finished speaking before one of her men, cried out in pain as something connected with his ankle breaking it and felling him. She didn't need to be a rocket scientist to realise that with one part of the five point prism failed, it carried down the line so the whole trap would fail. This was infuriating, how could one boy, albeit with some military training be able to evade and escape from a cohesive military unit, with superior weapons, and planning. Steeling herself to remain calm, she decided that if anything else happened, she would get involved herself. She wasn't one of those cowards who positioned themselves as far from the battlefield as possible. She preferred to lead from the forefront, and that was a trait that had earned her men's loyalty. But it was a double edged sword. If she chose to interfere in this fight now, it would deal an irreparable blow to the honor of her men.
Despite one of there comrades being down and out of this fight, the others had adapted a new formation, with two taking up defensive stances, and the others readying there firearms. A classic shield and spear technique. The men at the front would take the brunt of the damage giving the men with the firearms the opening they would need to launch a devastating attack.

((OOC: Just realised I should have had two attacks per turn. Amended my other charas last post, so doing same here.)) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Danel barely heard the woman's warning to their men as adrenaline started to pump through him. The first of the soldiers had fallen with a satisfying crack and now he was intent on ending the others the same way. He no longer cared why he was doing this, or about the reason he had come all he way out here to begin with, in fact the only thing that mattered now was spilling the blood of his foes!
Facing the four remaining soldiers, he smirked as they aimed their firearms at him once again. They had adapted a new attack formation, a futile attempt to escape their fate...and then they fired. Reeling from their shots, it felt almost as if he had been hit by a brick! It had at least managed to return him to something resembling sense, but there was still a battle to be had and he still craved the blood of these who had made themselves the enemy.
Attempting to ignore his wounds for the time being, Danel took aim toward one of the gunners in the back row. Even in the face of adversary, Danel knew how to stay cool and focus. At least one part of him did, and he couldn't help but wonder which of the two distinct halves of his personality were actually him, if any.
Firing, he watched with satisfaction as the bullet speeded it's way toward the desired target, before whirling round and firing toward another of the soldiers. Hopefully, he had managed to catch the second off guard, but he wouldn't bet on it. These were professionally trained soldiers, after all, and they were together whilst he was on his own. Perhaps he may have bitten off a little more than he could chew, but then he didn't intend in dying on this gods forsaken world! --------------------------------------------------------------------------

It couldn't be it sounded like it came from underground. Suddenly the earth in front of you exploded into the air, dust and rocks flew down hitting you all. Once the cloud of dirt and dust had cleared before you stood a giant worm like creature. It was gigantic in size and it appeared to have no eyes or facial features. As it swung itself around you could see it just had a large gaping mouth with thousands of sharp teeth lining the inside of its mouth. With one last might swing the worm faced your opponents and swiftly leant down gobbling them all up in one mouthful. Their screams pierced your ears as did the sounds of their bones being broken from the worm's raze sharp teeth.
If you were lucky maybe you could escap...maybe not. The large worm swung around to face you this time, you could seen between its teeth the torn flesh and blood of those you had literally just faced a few moments ago. There wasn't much of a choice here, you wouldn't be able to survive against this beast not alone.

As the fight continued, Danel awaited the inevitable counter attacks of his foes. He had to admit, things were looking rather bad at first but were now looking up. These guys weren't as tough as they thought themselves to be, and he grinned cockily as they figured out their next moves.
It didn't take them too long to raise their guns in his direction again and he braced himself for another barrage of bullets. What he hadn't braced himself for was the ground to begin shaking rather violently, knocking one or two of the soldiers from their feet. An earthquake perhaps? No, those usually lasted a little longer and was that a roar? He didn't have too much time to contemplate this as an almighty crash emanated from underneath, causing him to go flying a few feet away. Shaking his head in order to return to his senses, he turned around onto his back and put a hand to his forehead. Blood, he must have grazed himself on a rock when he landed. Grunting, he squinted to see though the cloud of dust that had emerged, but he couldn't see anything through his stinging eyes.
As the dust began to clear though, as well as Danel's vision, his eyes widened at the sight before him. The worm like creatures was huge, it's many sharp teeth easily each as big as him, although that could have been a slight exaggeration brought on by the rush of adrenaline that coursed through him. He noticed that the soldiers were right in front of the monstrosity, and so did it when it lunged forward and took them all in it's powerful jaws in one fell swoop! The woman who had been leading the group up until now could only look on in horror as he people under her command were crunched and swallowed. Danel bet that she was glad that she hadn't intervened earlier, otherwise, well, what a way to go! He winced as their agonised screams died down into deathly silence.
It was then that the beasts attention turned to Danel . He looked straight into the things gaping jaws and was reminded of the cries of the men who had died horribly just moments before.
"Oh shi -", he began to cry out, although he didn't get chance to finish his sentence as the creature struck quickly in order to devour him as it had done almost everyone else who had been here. Rolling out of the way, he jumped to his feet and allowed his eyes to dart around in search of some kind of hiding place. Perhaps he could make it to the bridge over the mysteriously still water that he had cataloged not too long ago, but their was no way he could simply outrun this hungry worm thing! Thankfully, this is where his training came into play, and he turned invisible in order to make a run for it. He no doubt that this would only fool the creature for so long before it caught the scent of the gash on his head and followed him that way. He really hoped the thing didn't like water, it could be his only chance after all.
Reaching the bridge by the waters edge, he knew he had only seconds before the invisibility wore off and he would be in full view again. He wouldn't be able to turn it straight back on either, so it was now or never. There were many rock formations in and around the small shape, at least he assumed they were rock anyway, so perhaps he could hide behind one of them? Either way, it seemed as though the creatures roar was a fair distance away. Perhaps on losing sight of him it had decided to instead chase the late soldiers commander? He sure hoped so...

Well that was something noteworthy to report back! True to your own throughts the invisibility would be wearing off soon leaving you open to view once again. Perhaps now would be some time to take some notes and pictures of possible, if the rest of this planet had creatures like that worm you wouldn't get much chance to yourself. Heck this place could end up being your grave if you weren't careful.
"Hello."
Talk about sneaking up without being noticed! Her voice seemed to boom around the area as she greeted you. Her short blonde hair wafted gently as she made her way down to you, she was dressed in clothing not too strange or peculiar from those on Gaia. She almost skipped down and planted herself in front of you. Either your invisibility had worn off or she had superb eyesight.

Hearing the worm creature burrowing back underground, Danel couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief as his invisibility wore off. The latter ability always left him feeling rather tired and drained and frankly it was a relief that he had a chance to cool down afterward, which he hadn't been expecting.
After a few deep breaths in an attempt to calm his adrenaline fueled body, he remembered the point of his visit to this place and took out his notepad and pencil again. May as well take notes, otherwise he wouldn't get paid, but there was nothing worse than 'defeating the object', as it were. The job had seemed a little boring at first but had quickly heated up into a fight for survival. Danel couldn't help but grin to himself upon this realisation. He so loved a challenge and this barren place had turned out to be very much so. He just hoped that nothing else tried to sneak up on him unexpected.
As if on cue, the sound of a young girls voice startled him a little and his eyes darted toward the source of the sound. The girl in question must have very good perception skills to have spotted him in his hiding place, but then that didn't matter so much now. Unless she was part of a crazed cannibal cult, then she was unlikely to want to eat him, but then she didn't appear dangerous at all. She could only have been around thirteen or fourteen, a child by Gaian standards. That was a point, he realised, there were actually people living out here? Or perhaps she was part of another expedition, one luckier than the ones he had found murdered in cold blood earlier.
Realising how futile it was to picture the various scenarios in which the girl had come to be here, Danel put away his notepad and pencil and slowly got to his feet. Stepping a little closer, he noticed the girls tail. A genome, that explained a lot he supposed, although he had been told that they no longer lived on Terra. Then again, he'd only learned who they were and where they were from when he had taken this job. His memory still had a lot to answer for. Nevertheless, he stepped forward until he was just a couple of feet away and smiled at her. It was a tired smile, but one he hoped was reasonably friendly.
"Hey there", he greeted her before his expression hardened into one of concern. "What're you doing out here alone, it's dangerous y'know." Surely she was aware of how dangerous this place was?

The young genome hopped down to you and began to look you over quite slowly. Her hair was short and blonde and she appeared well groomed for what appeared to be a hostile and desolate environment. Then again you hadn't really explored much of the planet so in theory there could be entire civilisations out there waiting to be discovered! Mikoto took another few steps towards you as her tail curled around her left leg, she looked you up and down once again before taking a few steps backwards.
"It's home."
It was an answer, not one that was really unexpected but it was short and to the point. Mikoto briefly smiled as she turned her back to you clasping her small hands behind her back, she began to rock back and forth on her heels. In the distance you could hear a loud roar which didn't sound like the worm you had just encountered.
"Mmmmm I'm not sure you should be here....Garland won't like this.."

It's home...well that was an annoyingly cryptic answer, but even so it was still an answer. He was a little perplexed as to her lack of concern about their less than friendly surroundings. Then again, if this was her home then she possibly had ways of avoiding detection by creatures like that worm from earlier. Another roar in the distance, different to the one from the aforementioned beast, could be heard, immediately reminding him of the danger that they could possibly both be in by this point.
Still with her back to him, she showed some kind of concern about a person named Garland finding him. Whoever they were, it could be presumed that they didn't like visitors. He could possibly learn everything he needed to know about this world from the girl in front of him, but curiosity had him wrapped tightly in it's deadly embrace. He realised this with annoyance, as his training should have told him that if anything distraction and death went hand in hand. He folded his arms as he responded to the Terran native.
"Garland huh? Who the hells that when they're at home anyway? He sighed before continuing. Never mind that though, you have a name?" He didn't know if she would answer him or not, but then it wasn't important anyway."I'm just here to take notes on this place and then I'll be off." Perhaps that would make her feel a little better, but then he wasn't convinced.

The young genome watched you intently as you moved around and spoke to her. Her tail curled around her opposite leg once she had stopped rocking back and forth on her feet. Her eyes met yours briefly before she turned away to look into the distance once again. She didn't answer your questions straight away almost as if there was no urgency for them, when in fact you could do with answers pretty fast. This was a strange and unexplored planet there was no telling what lurked within the shadows.
"I'm Mikoto....maybe you should come to Bran Bal."
Bran Bal? From the way Mikoto spoke it must be the name of a town or some place of significance for it be mentioned. Mikoto didn't really wait for you to be ready she just spun around on her heels and began to walk in the opposite direction to where you had just ran from. The female genome was dressed in a white and pink outfit with pink clips in her blonde hair. It complimented her figure and made her blue eyes stand out that bit more. She turned her head slightly to see if you were actually following.
"Can't hang around here too long, Garland may have spotted you already."

Danel felt another pang of annoyance as the girl turned away, apparently choosing not to answer his questions. What was with her anyway, he wondered as she seemed completely cool and oblivious to the potential danger around them. A thought then occurred to him as he recalled her mentioning a town. What if that worm like beat from earlier hadn't been just some wild monster, but a protector of the people? It would certainly explain why this girl had no fear of becoming somethings snack. Not unless this Garland thing was the only creature that her people felt any kind of fear towards. Perhaps he/she/it though, was another protector waiting to pounce, or could even have been the name of that monster from earlier.
Berating himself for allowing his imagination to get so carried away, he almost turned to leave when the girl finally answered. Mikoto? That was a pretty name, he thought, but now wasn't the time for that. Instead, he nodded as he followed her. It was probably his best bet right now and besides, it would allow him to take some notes on a whole sentient civilisation living out here! Maybe his client would pay him more for such valuable information, that is if he lived to tell the tale. Speaking of tails, he had almost lost sight of the betailed young girl, before seeing her just up ahead, waiting for him presumably. Making his way after her, he didn't see the point in asking any more questions for now as they made their way to 'Bran Bal'. He could have sworn he was being watched though...

Her long brown tail swung slowly from side to side as she walked keeping in perfect motion with her small hips. The entrance to Bran Bal was upon you quicker than expected and it was....well it looked deserted. The houses were a shade of blue with the strangest design of exterior and roof you had ever seen. A lake sat in the middle of the town with not one ripple in sight. It was an eerie silence but you still had the feeling you were being watched.
"This is Bran Bal...our home."
Our home? You hadn't seen anyone else. As Mikoto finished speaking the doors to the homes around the lake, they slowly walked out into the open and set their eyes on you first. You were a stranger to them but they didn't seem hostile, they were....genomes just like Mikoto. Similar body type and tails to match. Some male and some female. They gathered around Mikoto who held her arms out.
"We are Genomes created by Garland, we are vessels or so he said."

Following the betailed girl, Danel continued to take notes as he did so. He was a little hesitant though to include Mikoto and her people whom he was undoubtedly to meet soon. What would happen if the wrong people knew of the existence of sentient life out here? If he did document this race then he was sure that he would be paid most handsomely, but at the possible cost of these peoples livelihoods. The races of Gaia held little respect for their own, never mind a culture that could be considered alien! For now though, he continued to take notes as he walked, stopping to take the occasional photo of the landscape. He was careful not to catch Mikoto in any of the shots for the time being.
After a while, the two stopped and Mikoto informed him that they had reached her home. It seemed to fit quite well with the rest of the rather strange landscape. The buildings here certainly had a unique architecture and the lake in the centre of the small settlement...was that even water in there? Water flowed and rippled, never constant and ever changing, but this? Whatever liquid contained in the towns central mass was eerily still. It was as though he was actually looking at a photograph, although even then the sensation of movement should have still been apparent.
Glancing around some more, there was no doubt as to what these peoples favourite colour must have been! The intense blue hues and shades reminded him of the mako that ran through the suit he wore under his civilian clothing. Okay, so that was green, but the intensity of the colour was arguably the same. Or perhaps he had only thought that because it had been so long since he'd had a mako bath and he could feel himsefl weakening. It would only be a matter of time before the supply in his suit ran out, but mako could only be found in Midgar, as far as he knew, and returning there was not exactly top of his list of good ideas right now.
Allowing his mind to trail back on topic, the intense blue was starting to give him a headache. It then occurred to him that despite assuming that Mikoto would be living with others, the place appeared empty and quiet...too quiet.
Once they had gotten so far into the town, however, the others began to emerge. They all seemed to converge around Mikoto for some reason, shooting him rather quizzical looks. This flicker of expression seemed to last only seconds, before their faces returned to the vacant expression they had arrived with. It was then that Mikoto introduced her people. Genomes? So this Garland person was their creator, but..."
"Vessels?" , he questioned with an arched eyebrow. "What do you mean by that and who told you such a thing. Garland?"

She brushed aside a few strands of her short blonde hair while keeping her eyes on you. If these Genomes decided to turn against you then you would be very much outnumbered. They didn't look a violent race not if Mikoto was anything to go by. The other genomes had now gathered around the lake but had kept silent.
" I have said too much already, you are an outsider he won't be happy. I must take you somewhere safer..."
No sooner had Mikoto spoken you felt the ground rumble beneath you, the other genomes looked up towards the sky before slowly backing away into their own homes. Mikoto stayed still even though she was also looking up into the sky. It was as if she knew what was coming...
" Too late...he knows. Please run now before it gets here.
Mikoto turned to you and quickly grabbed your arm. It seemed she was very serious...

Wondering why the others were so silent, Danel only nodded as Mikoto warned him once again about the Garland person (or indeed thing). It seemed as though he wouldn't be learning anything else about the girl and her people, which was fine as he had no intention of including them in his notes anyway. On that note, perhaps he should leave them to it. After all, his presence here was obviously making Mikoto rather nervous, but then why did she bring him here? Perhaps it was a cry for help of some kind against their oppressor. After all, why else would she be so keen to keep him safe? He knew deep down though that he could probably be little help to them. He was just as likely to turn on them as he was to eradicate whatever threat they could possibly be facing. Maybe he should leave, but he couldn't just leave these people could he?
It was at that moment that he was broken from his thoughts by a rumbling in the ground. A slight tremour at first, but growing bigger by the second. Now what, he thought as the other 'genomes' retreated back into their homes. All except for Mikoto who showed the same kind of concern right now was he did. In fact, he was about to ask if she knew what it was when it became apparent that she did indeed. The genome girl looked almost panicked as she grabbed his arm in alarm and for a moment he found himself rooted to the spot. As the sound came closer though, he whipped his head to face the young girl.
"Quickly, why'd you bring me here?" , he enquired with a tone of urgency. He needed to know before he left as if he outright abandoned these people in possible peril then he would never forgive himself. Likewise, if they were left in peril because of him then the consequences could potentially be even more disastrous. Left with little option, he waited for his answer for as long as he could before leaving quickly. Perhaps if he could find a suitable hiding spot then he could at least check that they would be okay.

A good an answer as any, he supposed, although it was still annoyingly cryptic. There was no time to worry about that now though, as he had left his decision too late and some other kind of strange monstrosity appeared. A gelatinous creature oozed its way into the village, making a beeline straight for him, and he could feel his heart sink. It looked rather tough, but that wasn't his biggest concern. What he was worried about was when he defeated this creature (for he had no doubt he could) that he wouldn't be able to stop. That was the way in which he had been conditioned and no matter how he tried, it was near impossible to keep himself under control. Not only that, but by now he couldn't have too much mako left in his suit, meaning his energy would soon begin to wane.
Taking out his rifle, he spoke to Mikoto whilst keeping his gaze firmly on the monster.
"You might want to get out of here, I'll leave as soon as I can." He didn't want to risk her getting hurt from either the monster or himself. Whether she was out of the way or not, he couldn't leave the attack any longer. Making sure his firearm was fully loaded, he pulled the trigger and watched as the ammo sailed toward his gelatinous assailant. It then occurred to him that this was a potentially pointless exercise as it was rather likely to absorb any type of projectile. Rolling his eyes, he then rushed forward in an attempt to use his rifle as a club. Again, this could prove rather pointless, but either way if he could at least aim for the eyes, he should be alright. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Danel flinched a little as Mikoto suddenly grabbed his arm. So his hunch was right after all, but the tailed girl ran from the small village before he could even comprehend her words. Save us, she had said, but was he capable of saving anyone? He had been conditioned to kill, after all, and even breaking free of the control Shin-Ra had over him was not always enough to quell the need. He really wanted to help Mikoto and her people, but he knew that deep down he would just as soon kill them all, should he lose control.
Whilst contemplating the Genomes words, he had almost forgotten about his gelatinous foe, a mistake that could have proven deadly in the wrong circumstance! Annoyed that he had allowed himself to become distracted, he stumbled in order to keep upright as the thing head butted him. At least that was the best way of describing it, but did something that looked like it had been served for desert (bar its many eyeballs) truly have a head?
As he got his footing back, a thought occurred to him. The person who had assigned him this job would probably be very keen to get a sample of some kind from this many eyed beasty! So far, he had only managed to get soil and plant samples, of they could even be called soil and plants, but nothing from anything living! He remembered the pen knife in his kit, but he couldn't do much about it until the creature was dazed enough to allow such contact. There was no guarantee that the thing would still be there once he defeated it, assuming he did, so now was as good a time as any!
Making sure that his rifle was still loaded, he fired off another shot, aiming for the eyes. It wasn't really that hard to do, considering the sheer number of them, but surely a bullet in one or two of them would cause it to back off!
Taking the knife from his bag, he then rushed forward, shooting at his foe again as he did so and attempted to scrape a sample. He had to be quick though, as to say that the fiend wouldn't like this would probably be an understatement! ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Attempting to return the intense stare down given to him by the strange creature, he almost scoffed as he realised the futility of it. How could one possibly out glare something whose whole body was covered in eyeballs?
It then rushed forward, almost knocking him from his feet. Steadying himself, the blood rush became even more intense as his vision began to blur. Nothing mattered now other than killing his opponent. In fact even thoughts of Mikoto and her plight became lost as he charged forward, issuing a roaring cry as he did so. With all his might, he smashed his rifle down on the jelly-like thing with such force that it probably would have been lost in it's squishy body, had it not been for the eyeballs in the way. Instead, he was able to yank it back upward and fired more shots at point blank range! Probably not a good idea, considering what he could be covered in just now, but he was past the point of caring.
