Danel stood overlooking the city that until some time ago had been his prison. There was no two ways about it - returning to Midgar in his position was probably not a good idea! Nevertheless, he had and for several reasons. The most important being the paper that had found itself crushed in his tightened right fist, that hung stiffened by his side. Glancing once more at the sprawling metropolis, he looked down once again at the note that had been delivered. The paper wasn't exactly of the finest quality to begin with, but now it had the crinkled texture of dry leaves. That part didn't really matter though, although it did provide a momentary distraction. What did was the content of the note and to whom it was addressed. Whoever this was from, they had addressed it to his alias, meaning that someone had been watching him. That went without saying really, but this wasn't the style of either Shin-Ra or even the Turks! No, they really wanted him dead and they preferred to take more direct measures.
Sighing, he once again unraveled the crispy paper. The writing now was barely legible but he could still make it out. 'Danel Walker, meet me on the hillside overlooking Midgar', it read with regards from 'a friend'. Were they really a friend though or had he stupidly lumbered into a trap? Something about it had certainly intrigued him. If it was indeed a new tactic by Shin-Ra, then he was very curious as to what they would attempt to do. He wasn't like the other Deepground soldiers, stronger and faster with more abilities, but at the same time he wasn't nearly as powerful or dangerous as the coloured Tsviets, the strongest among Shin-Ra's most horrifying experiments! His curiosity had been piqued by whoever was stupid enough to call him out here to begin with! Then again, he felt strangely at ease, more so than he should have in this situation. Yes, that was why he had come - he had to know who had wrote it!
Stuffing the note into his pocket, he glanced around as the sun had begun its descent for the night. The city below began to light up, coming alive and almost looking as though it could take off into the darkening sky. It seemed like hours since he had arrived here, but in truth the time could perhaps be measured in minutes. Whatever the case, the sound of footsteps alerted him to another presence ascending the hill on which he stood. Wordlessly, he turned on his heal to face the newcomer with an expression that warned them against coming to close. Familiar or not, he had no reason to trust this person and his hand fell on his holster.

Out of all the things you could have expected when you finally saw who had come up the hill, it is doubtful you would have expected this. Coming up the hill was a five foot four, quite skinny boy who looked barely into his teens, fifteen at the most. The only thing that could make him seem a little older was the blade on his waist and the cold, hard steely look in his eyes, like he had grown up way to fast.
When he reached the top he looked at you with those cold, hard eyes but did not say anything for a moment. The way he was sizing you up might actually be comical, due to the fact he looked so young. He took a couple of steps forward but noticed your hand on your gun and did not seem to pleased with that fact. His hand went to rest on his blade, which, even though not massive could actually be about the same length as his body. After a few seconds he finally spoke, his voice young, but old at the same time,
”Daniel Walker, I’m Kharn, John Kharn, I’ve been sent to speak with you.”
Watching as the young person approached him, it was astonishing how old he looked in his eyes and demeanor. This kid had been through a lot to wind up where he was. Speaking of which, he would need to learn exactly where he was and who he actually stood with. This was a potentially precarious situation and he would hate to wind up being killed over something so simple as curiosity. The kid might be small but something about him suggested that he could handle himself. The worst mistake that anyone could make, after all, was to underestimate ones foes.
His hand still on his holster, he watched as the kid sized him up and placed a hand to his blade. It bore a thin blade but was likely taller than it's wielder and could still do some serious damage. It was times like this that he was glad of his rifle. No matter how skilled a swordsman was, there was a very good chance that a well placed bullet could stop them in their tracks! Either way, he'd been sent to speak to him and he felt the hairs on the back if his neck prick up as the boy introduced himself. Still though, he kept his cool as he responded.
"John Kharn", he repeated before continuing, A pleasure, but the names Danel not Daniel. A lot of people did that and he began to wish that he had used that name instead for his alias. "More importantly though, he continued, who are you with and what do you want?"

Kharn watched you as you kept you hand on your holster. He seemed, guarded, but, at the same time indifferent to the fact you were a marksman. He did not move from his spot, he just kept his eyes on you, just in case you did decide to attack. However, just after you had spoke he reached up with the hand which was not on his sword and brushed his hair back revealing one of his ears, it was pointed.
With the show of his ear there was a very good chance you would understand he was an elf. This meant something simple he was much older than he looked. Where he looked barely into his teens there was a good chance he was at least double you age, in fact instead of think he had just reached his teens it would be better to think he had just reach his triple digits when it came to his age. He finally spoke again, answering your question,
”I’m with AVALANCHE. We think, an alliance with you could be beneficial.”
So he was an elf, Danel noted as the boy pushed his hair back thus revealing a pointed ear. That sure explained a lot about his appearance and demeanor, the elves were rumoured to have far longer life spans than most of the other races put together! Well, perhaps that was an exaggeration, but either way he had chosen to speak to him. Perhaps he was the writer of the note? He didn't recognise the boy, which wasn't unusual given his amnesia, but that handwriting was still bothering him. who had wrote it and why?
The reasoning behind the latter issue soon became apparent as the not so young John Kharn continued. AVALANCHE huh? He hadn't seen that one coming and he had to admit that he was rather surprised. What would they want with someone like him, unless...
"So you've been watching me", he observed. There was no other way that they could possibly have made the assessment they had otherwise. Did they know of his unusual capabilities? Or better still, had they somehow uncovered the Shin-Ra's most terrible secret? No, that was impossible. They would have to really be something special to have uncovered the existence of Deepground, very few in it's founding organisation knew of it's existence!
His expression remained neutral as he cautiously removed his hand from the holster of his rifle. He kept it to his side though, just in case before continuing.
"Sounds intriguing, but may I ask how long you have been watching me? What makes you think I would be that beneficial a tool?

The elf stood there and listened to what you had to say. He was not surprised about the questing, in fact, it seemed like he was almost expecting them. As you removed you hand from your holster he did not move his hand, well, not for a moment or two at least. Even though he had removed his hand from his blade, his demeanour did not change, guarded and rigid. It seemed like had been a member of some kind of military himself.
When you had finished your questions he did not speak for a moment, a slight annoyance on his face. He had been expecting them, but it did not mean he had to like them. The truth was, he was new to AVALANCHE himself, and, in fact, recruiting you was his first proper mission, outside of scouting and recon. However, it seemed that he would indulge you with answering your question, since, he was told to recruit you by all means, which he did not understand, you did not look like much to him.
”We’ve been watching you for a while now, I don’t know the detail, it’s not in my pay grade, however, I was told to recruit you at all costs. You’re strong, and skilled, plus you do not like Shin-ra, so, you fit the requirements. If you wish to, I will show you our resolve.”
So the kid was just a messenger boy, he realised before also realising that he had referred to him as a person much younger than he probably was. This could could easily have a century or two on him! He didn't know anything about himself, but he was pretty sure that he had been human once. Perhaps he still was, but then he felt that was rather debatable. It also hardly mattered, which was more than he could say for this latest revelation. Recruit him at all costs hmm? It was sure starting to sound like someone had been watching him, how else would he have ended up that high on their priorities? Kharn was right about one thing though, he sure hated Shin-Ra! That didn't mean that he would automatically join a bunch of rebels he hardly knew anything about though. Still, there was one obvious way of remedying that situation!
"Fine, I'll talk to your boss. No offence, but I don't think there's much more you can tell me on the matter, is there?" He was really trying to be polite and civil, but he really wasn't good with people. He had no reason to trust anyone, for all he knew the elf could really be working for Shin-Ra in an effort to catch him out!
"You should know though, that my trust doesn't come easily. So when you say you wish to show your resolve, what did you have in mind?"
