Measuring time within prison was a matter of patience, normally a prisoner could last well into their years before losing track of time and life entirely, constrained and trapped more in their own minds than by the four identical dark walls. The former Dark Guardian however was kept in a Guado Prison, one more akin to the dank forests than the stone slabs of Bevelle. The traitor to the Bevellian Monks had experienced imprisonment before at the hands of Yevon but had been freed on account of his age and still lasting faith, this time was different it seemed. For whatever reason Zero had awakened to find himself in chains, charged for the murder of several Guado a crime he refused to admit to; whilst his memory was indeed blank…he knew that even drunk killing an innocent unprovoked was not something he was capable of let alone whilst with his charge.
But sentencing came and past, his charge doing nothing to stop the tide of injustice that was coming in around his feet. Before long his fate was set, his face growing unkempt with weeks of growth; if not even his summoner was to stand in his defence…the question proposed to himself….was he truly guilty? It was this question and a belief that with or without him Adiona would obtain the justice and revenge that he had sought so greatly, yet as his mind and body decayed within the prison walls an hear heard not the call for celebration, with that acceptance faded into the dark. And out of that dark came the first colour to arise within the forsaken guardian. Anger.
Too long had he sat here, quietly accepting of his fate; too long had he permitted the idle wanderings of his old charge. When they had parted ways she seemed intent on her task, a road that he had helped pathe for her….a road which led to his goal…her death, and the defeat of the monstrosity which plagued his home. A new task formed in his mind, whilst he had been legendary before his time in captivity had led to the decay of his body and his skills, he needed to train…and within his own dark recesses he did so, fuelled not by the petty food offered by the prison authorities but sustained by the fresh rage that bubbled within him.
Abandoned, forsaken, betrayed…..but not defeated.
After he had determined that his body was at least a shadow of its former health he began to gather the bits of food, eating the minimum to sustain his strength and keeping portions for one final meal the night prior to his attempt. That night came and though in some cases he would need to choke down the food, he would do so knowing that every morsel of strength would be needed for the coming trials. The Dark Guardian would have at one time obliterated his opposition, at one time they would not have thought of chasing him should they have a hope of living beyond the next morning. But those times were gone along with his infamy….but he would claim it all once again, just as he would claim the heads of those responsible for his incarceration…and the time allotted to Sin’s quickly expiring lifetime.
He was awakened in the dawn by the sounds of keys in the lock, a guard letting the prisoners out for their daily exercise, a required routine. He would remain still, unmoving even as the guard barked the order for him to alight the cell. The Guado would move in but still Zero would remain silent, unmoving…waiting as he got closer and closer….a hand reached out to touch and with that it had begun. The Former Guardian whipped around, grasping the hand and twisting the arm as he stood to toss the guard onto the cot upon which he had himself lay, a quick twist and a snap bought him more time as the guard reeled from the pain of a fractured arm. With the same resonant coldness in his eyes Zero would place a pillow to the head of the guard before stealing the knife from his boot, using it to repeatedly shank the guard, cries out were muffled and Zero would keep the pillow in position till his bare feet were covered in warm sanguine blood. Zero would recover most of what he could from the guard, keys, sword, acting quickly as no doubt their absence would not go un-noticed.
Escaping his cell Zero’s first drop off in the block was the chamber which held his old belongings, his old sword appeared to have gone, likely sold off. His clothing and armour, dusty as though they were remained and Zero wasted no time in getting changed, a small mirror within the room gave him a look at what the time in prison had done. His clothes were now hanging slightly loser, his face gaunt with undernourishment. He had however it seemed spent too much time on aesthetics, a cry went out for the alarm…and before the former Guardian knew it…he was running down a stone corridor seeking the exit with the sound of boots pounding closely behind.

There was no time to think of what you would do when you got out, there was only the instinct. Run...run hard and fast to freedom. Oh freedom. To feel that sweet taste on your skin once again but how has Gaia changed since your imprisonment?
Luckily there was a gap big enough for you to slide in thanks to your new found figure. Two Guado prison guards jogged past you but stopped a few feet away, one much young than the other placed his hands onto his hips as he gasped for air. The older one holding his rifle in one hand began to pace and every two steps kicked the stone wall. He grumbled before slamming fist against the grimy stone wall, his younger companion stood up straight to attention.
"He can't be allowed to escape!"
"What's the big deal....chump charge anyways it's not like he is impor.."
The older Guado launched himself at his younger male counterpart and pushed him up harshly against the wall, the hand holding his rifle was now resting against the young Guado's throat. He squeaked while trying to catch mouthfuls of air.
"Keep your damn voice down. Are you fucking stupid or just ignorant boy? All you need to know is that...he...must....be....kept...imprisoned. Find him...now"
The raging Guado released his grip on the younger one and began to slowly walk away shaking his head, he was mutttering under his breath but it was too indistinct to make out any words. The Guado left behind relaxed his shoulders and started to follow suit....but he did have his back to you now. Decisions...decisions.
{Fancy another shanking? Or you could just slip away...}

The thunder of steps behind him almost seemed to match his heartbeat, it had been so long since he had felt this way felt this emotion this need, this dark calling for blood and war which had driven him for so long. It felt good, it felt right...it felt necessary. But as he slid into the crack to hide himself he knew that his powers were just a shadow of what they had once been, there had been a time when he could simply turn and face all the guards coming to him and wipe them out with little effort, but on a diet of molded bread and water trapped in a dank cell with little room and no blade to call his own...he was rusty, weak...and those guards would likely murder him if he was surrounded.
Listening into the conversation between the two in front of him it seemed clear to the former guardian that the older Guado knew more about who he was than the younger one. The distinct sound of panic mumbling his words, though a thought did occur...was that out of fear of Zero's coming retribution?...or was it from those who had jailed him in the first place hearing of his escape? Melancholy thoughts ringing like rusted chains in his mind, if he had been framed and kept out of the loop then it had to be someone with enough pull to interfere in a summoner and guardians work. If that was the case then it seemed to him that perhaps there was more to learn from the older Guado, though now to him was presented a choice. The younger one had been left behind and in his current state of shock the guard which might have posed some problems was left down.
Seconds were frantic....the choice and consequences between slipping away undetected and killing this poor bastard played out in front of him like a dream. Ultimately though this escape wasn't just about getting away, sending a message to whoever had imprisoned him in the first place was also priority...which meant that he had to cut a path swathed in blood. Blade drawn he would sneak up behind the younger Guado, left hand would reach up and cover his mouth dragging him back to his demise on the edge of Zero's blade. The sounds of the guard's cries would be muffled so as not to attract the attention of the wider community, however the older Guado might have been close enough to hear it, thus Zero had no choice but to follow up. Withdrawing his blade from its new found fleshy sheath Zero would allow the body to drop onto the ground before charging forwards at the older guard....
Zero considered the idea of not killing the older one, if he did know anything then it might be valuable. However he decided against it,mid run preparing his blade to cut the guard down, this was not the time nor the place for any sort of lengthy discussion...he would escape and then find out the truth, upon reaching melee range he would aim a terminal slash from shoulder to chest cavity at the older guard.

No sooner had the older Guado guard hit the ground you would hear another rush of footsteps not far from where you now stood. It was too late to hide or even run this time. Down the corridor another group of Guado guards appeared but led by one much more elegantly dressed, well as elegant as military outfits go. He stood tall in front of the others as they branched out to try and circle you, the narrow corridor meant they could only block your way from the front in a crescent moon shape. The more distinguised Guado stepped forward with one hand on what looked like a radio device and the other on the hilt of his sword. The radio began to crackle and fizz but his eyes remained fixed on you as a voice sounded from the radio at his side.
"Mission failed.....target and party held off the attack. At Zanarkand....close borders now."
Slowly he unclipped the radio and brought it up to his mouth, he pressed a large black button while three guards slightly raised their swords and two took the safety off their rifles.
"...and the scapegoat?
"No longer a threat. Release or kill. Final Aeon chosen. Stand down...payment will be delivered. Bevelle is ours, one Maester unaccounted for...continuing search."
The leader or Captain of the group smirk as he clipped the radio back to his side, he took a few steps back and crossed his arms over his chest. He was no brick wall in terms of his build but he did't get to the position he was in by being weak. He never took his eyes off you and by that brief conversation he knew exactly who you were.
"Finish him off."

There was no more running to be done, though by the looks of how things were going to progress that was a good thing. Voices unknown to him, a well dressed man unlike the guards in front, they were speaking about him....and one word registered above all others. 'Scapegoat'. There was a familiarity about that word, a meaning beyond the one that was at the front of his mind, something itching at the back of his thoughts calling for recognition. Though words were not what cleared his mind, rather it was the drum...the heart beat within his chest, within the minds of those who stood before him. A beat, a symphony of war...oh how he missed it.
Zero was not one for words as the battle began, the lesser soldiers stepping forward to fight on behalf of their master. He assumed their ignorance in these matters...but that ignorance was not an armor nor a shield to protect them. They were in his way, obstacles that would become messages, warnings. He drew his sword and raised it a-front his face, a test of his powers as the battle awakened the more primal, abysmal power that had once earned him the name of Dark Guardian. " Cruelty without choice, Hunger without Instinct". The air around them would grow cold, the torches upon the walls would flicker as the darkness they held back seemed to shift with life. His blade would take on black symbols, ancient markings for war, death, plague, torture before it was fully consumed with a blackness so deep it seemed the sword itself had been burned coal black beyond recognition. At this point it seethed away in the breeze like ash, crumbling to nothingness, that alone it seemed gave the guards reason to grow confident and the first charged.
The first would not get two steps before his cries filled the halls, the others were caught off guard unsure what to make of the events that had just occurred. From the shadows of the floor a chain of of black steel had shot forward and impaled the shoulder of their comrade who was now struggling to escape. The former guardian remained silent, the slightest twitch of his hand and the chain would shoot around in an arch impaling the guard through the thigh of the opposite side. He would fall once again screaming in pain, Zero stepping forward would raise his hand and with that had came from the floor numerous other chains drilling through the torso of the first guard taking with them numerous vital organs and pinning them to the ceiling.
He would spread his arms and as he did so the chains would separate, the sound of pressure building would increase the tension in the room till the gory explosion of the body and its pieces would break what silence there had been since the screaming had ultimately ended. Mortifer Umbra, the last of the sword possession techniques; the most powerful...and the most cruel. Its first use in years and he felt somewhat more fatigued than he felt that he should....there was a time when his energy had allowed this technique to envelop and trap a beast the size of the Solomon's Key...and here he was tearing petty soldiers to pieces...and it was actually having an effect on him.
"..I must finish this quickly..."
Right hand drew back, then thrust forward...the looks on the guard's faces spelled out everything to Zero, they knew their fates. Two were struck by the barrage of the chains, one took a blow directly to the chest, the chain rushing out the other end with his heart on the spiked end and bits of rib shooting out like shrapnel. The other managed to redirect a fatal blow but only resulted in crippling himself, the chain instead passing through the right side of his waist. The other two had managed to use somewhat rudimentary sword skills to bat away the dark chains, moving past their assault and onto Zero himself. The first one who reached him attempted a cleaving strike, a heavy handed blow that spoke of strength, but not skill; ducking under the blade Zero would wince as the noise of steel on stone rung throughout the hallway.
A swift jab to his side, hands grasping the guards sword arm by the wrist and elbow, swinging the guard around to meet his oncoming companion. The two barely avoided each other, but by then the word was done and the chains of darkness they had deflected so easily now shot back towards them taking one through the head and there other through his underbelly drilling up and emerging through the mans mouth. The one that pierced the head shot by the former guardian, the wind whistling as it almost grazed him. The technique itself worked by binding a spirit of darkness to his sword and using it to form these chains, however the spirit whilst following his command had its own individual will and desires...and he felt that perhaps that near miss was an expression of the fiend's own rebellious nature. A warning for the weakened Zero, he was still the master...but arrogance and weakness were a deadly combination.
The guard who had taken the shot through the waist now appeared to be bleeding out on the floor, likely the shot had torn an artery and the only thing he had succeeded in deflecting in the mind of Zero was a quicker less torturous demise. As those eyes closed Zero would recant the fiend from his blade, the dark ash returning to the shape of a sword as the chains faded from existence and the bodies they held up dropped to the ground with a sickening thud.
"...Know you do not die today for the implication of holding me captive, incarceration for false deeds was my choice and my error...You die today because your words implicate you in a plot against the divine....You will die a heathen, may Yevon show the mercy on your soul that I will not upon your body.."

He glanced back up to you and before you could blink he rushed forwards and attempted to slice down your chest. However this was not to be the case, the first taste of steel in years only served to set his blood on fire, his teeth on edge. This pain had been something that he had missed, enough to ignite the ember that was his silent rage and blow it into a great inferno. Zero would raise his blade in counter attack to his opponent slashing upwards across the chest. [Attack: 860DMG]
2, Zero would follow up this strike by channeling the dark rage into his sword, the corrupt spiritual energy would form across the blade like a second sheath. The former Guardian slashed his blade sending a wave of this energy at his opponent. [Defiance:850+50=900dmg, -10mp]
