It had been a long time, far longer than he intended, but the dragoon had returned back to the place that had set things in motion for him once before. Midgar, a fascinating city that never seemed to disappoint, seemed like it had not changed a bit from the way the dragoon remembered it. The dominating company that owned the whole continent, Shinra Inc., was still very much in control and still running the business the same way that had attracted the descendant of Balgus in the first place. It was like he had stepped into a time warp back to his youth, when he truly was a lone wolf looking to find a pack to run with. A devilish smile curled on his lips as he thought back to that part of his life, a time where chaos was the norm and he could perpetuate his ancestor's legacy to the fullest.
This Gaia he was apart of now was not the same as the one he had grown up in, but that did not matter to him in the slightest. He could sense in the air that trouble was on the horizon, and if it was not, then he would simply have to create it. After all, that was his purpose in life, his reason for being and all he desired. With chaos sweeping this world, negativity would follow and with the people's hearts growing cold and cruel to one another death would eagerly embrace them all with war. The dragoon chuckled to himself over how easy it was to push people to kill one another over rather trivial things, whether they say it was for justice or not. It made his goal so much easier to complete, something he appreciated vastly.
Originally he had arrived in Aisenfield, a small town within the Mysidia region that fellow dragoons called home, but was informed of a large battle occurring in Midgar. He decided to set out immediately, against the wishes of his companion, a valkyrie that dwelt within him. The journey took them far too long, and by the time they had arrived the event was far over, an afterthought to the people that lived within the city. Traveling through the sectors and continuing to collect information, the dragoon realized what he needed to do if he really wanted to gain information in this enormous city. The thoughts that crept through his mind greatly displeased the valkyrie, who materialized behind the crouched dragoon with crossed arms and a frown.
The two beings were within the place locales simply named, 'The Church', due to the strange phenomenon of it being the only place where flowers could grow. The dragoon was down on one knee, peering over a bed of the plant life with an evil smirk placed on his visage. The thought of snuffing out these flowers was swimming his mind, a thought his companion could not bear any longer without saying something.
"Don't you dare Loki! I will not stand by and let you destroy the only beautiful things left in this dreadful city you Gaians have made." she announced over her shoulder, a glaring gaze following her threat that could have burned a whole within the dragoon's back.
His head slightly rose, but he did not stand up. She had broken the silence within the walls of the church, enough for Loki to take note that the small pools of water that helped to sustain the plants had slight ripples going through them. The furious tone of her voice, elicited a dark chuckle from the descendant of Balgus before he responded in a calm manner.
"Dreadful city? Midgar is as glorious as I remember it, the only abomination being this eye sore of a church and what it represents. Hope and faith....the chance for life...these notions have no purpose in this city." Loki commented in a matter of fact tone, slowly rising to his feet and keeping his back to the valkyrie who continued to glare even further at his words.
"Eisa...this world is not like the angelic one you used to reside within. This is the devil's playground, where most Gaians struggle day by day to make order of a land where it will not exist. Even if I were dead, that fact would remain the same, but it holds even more true because I still live. I am my ancestor's champion and I will continue his teachings 'til my last breath." the dragoon finished, his voice unwavering as he looked up to the ceiling where a stream of light pierced through the church.
They stood silent for a moment, Loki lowering his head and looking around the church as he placed his right hand on his waist. He was growing increasingly irritated the more he thought about this place and why it was here. He only came this way to humor Eisa who cherished such places, her values being ironically the opposite of his own. The dragoon was under the impression that it was merely a joke told by a senile fool they had passed wandering the slums. He didn't think it would be possible for such a miracle to exist here, but sure enough it truly was right before his very eyes.
"Perhaps some of you Gaians are beyond saving..." Eisa began to speak up once more, uncrossing her arms and moving closer to the dragoon. "but not all of you. I believe you underestimate how powerful faith and hope for brighter days can inspire even the darkest of minds and hearts." she finished, grabbing Loki's right arm in a comforting manner, something she knew he simply despised as he quickly yanked his arm away.
As the mercenary walked a few paces away from her, Eisa giggled at his frowning face and clapped her hands together. Despite what he might say, the valkyrie could read his mind and how he truly felt. He was trying hard to go back to his cold-hearted way of life, where he was alone and forced to fend for himself in the harshness that Gaia had to offer. Yet, that was easier said than done when you had to share a body with a being that contradicted your every movement in an annoying fashion.
"If you're done here teasing me, let's get going. I need to set up an interview with an old boss of mine." spoke the dragoon, walking out of the church and back into the slums. Eisa playfully pouted at his dismissal of her, but glided across the ground right beside him as they were heading towards the train station.
"Such an interesting name he has....Tseng is it?" she questioned hoping she pronounced it right, whereas the dragoon simply nodded, his trademark smirk appearing once again.
