SQUALL LEONHART

He could see that much just peering out of the window coming into the station. Angelo had fallen asleep by Rinoa, and it didn't take long for her to follow suit. At that time he suddenly saw himself in the role of some sort of bodyguard, so he sat stoic and quiet with the Revolver between his legs, peering back and forth every so often protectively. It wouldn't be long, however, until he felt his eyelids getting heavy from boredom and he figured a nap wouldn't hurt. He had closed both palms on Revolver's grip and layed his head down against the back of his hands, sleeping silently but lightly. He knew nothing bad would happen aboard the train, but his training never stopped kicking in so he expected something anyway.
By the time he awoke, he noticed a very certain change in scenery; from lush, green countryside, things had changed quickly and suddenly to...well, he wasn't even sure what to call it. Normal roads looked replaced by strange highly-advanced highways, skyscrapers were everywhere, strange little transport systems were dotted here and there, and it was a lot to take in at once. Slowly, his hands slid off the Revolver, and his right hand moved slowly to the window as his eyes moved closer to peer out in amazement. He'd never been to Esthar before, he'd only heard of it, so this was something completely amazing in his eyes; maybe less so with Rinoa, being a traveling diplomat and all.
He heard the screech of the tracks as they slowly began to come to a halt. He hadn't payed attention to see if Rinoa was awake or if she'd even woken up before he had. His hands came back to rest in his lap as his eyes stayed glued on the window. Without looking to see if Rinoa was awake, he quietly asked her a question. ''Any additional details you can share? The more informed I am, the better.'' [/style] [STYLE=float:right; background-color: #000; font-family: georgia; font-size: 9px; text-transform: uppercase; color: #ffffff; width: 310px; ; letter-spacing: 2.5px; padding-right: 10px; text-align: center;]CODED BY ACRYLIK ON BTN![/style]

Rinoa then heard Squall speak to her which was nice quiet calm tone to rouse her, she looked to him with her dark eyes and smiled lightly. Angelo by now had also stirred and now stood by the door ready to get out into Esthar.
"Xu will give us more details....I think it might be a clean up mission."
Rinoa was still half asleep but she pushed herself up from the seat and stood up straight. She lifted her arms up into the air above her head and began to stretch upwards letting out a small squeak. Her long dark hair fell back over her shoulders as she went through different motions of stretching.
He actually felt sort of bad. To be polite, he wanted her to get all the rest she needed but it appeared as if he'd just woken sleeping beauty. He leaned back in his seat as he looked down to Angelo then back up at her, seeing the smile on her face. She must have had a good dream or something, but then again at the same time, she seemed cheery just about all of the time any way you sliced it. She seemed like a real optimist; a stark contrast to the older teen himself. Finally he got an objective out of her though; task one of this mission was to rendezvous with Xu, who would provide further details and was confirmed to be stationed in Esthar for this particular exam. Rolling both of his shoulders with a quiet pop from each, he lifted Revolver from the floor and pointed the blade toward himself as he stepped toward the door to stand beside it. He intended to wait until she was good and ready before departing. He tapped the tip into the floor gently, just outside of volume for earshot.
He watched her as she stretched and his eyes flicked between her canine companion and Rinoa herself. He didn't want to seem impatient, but he couldn't lie; he was eager. He'd been waiting years for this, constantly training himself and sparring with other students to show his stuff to become a true SeeD. Once she announced she was ready to head out and into Esthar, he unlocked the door and slid it open, standing off to the side to let her go through first along with Angelo. He followed behind them with his SeeD slip at the ready to show reasoning for carrying his weapon, and as soon as they stepped off the train, he knew he'd have to use it. After exiting the train he showed the slip and was granted clearance, then allowed Rinoa to take the lead; it was probable she knew more about the place than he did, and she probably knew Xu's exact location as well.
[atrb=colspan,2][style=margin-left: 25px; border-left: 3px solid #555555; margin-top: -10px; padding: 20 2 40 12; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; font-family: helvetica; line-height: 14px; color: #a09891; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #111111;] The young Diplomat hopped down from the train steps and onto the platform with Angelo following not far behind her. She was in a particularly good mood and smiled at everyone she passed, Angelo barked every so often to try and get her attention but Rinoa would only glance down and pat him on the head. She lifted her head back up and the smile on her face beamed brightly, she shot her hand into the air and began waving to someone. Upon closer inspection Xu was stood just by the entrance to the station. Rinoa looked back to you and pointed to Xu.
"I'm so glad this worked out."
Well she knew herself that her plans rarely went off without a hitch, she turned back around and walked up to Xu who saluted you both. She then began to explain that creatures from a dimensional rift had attacked Queen Garnet and two young men with her. SeeD have been asked by Esthar to mop up any remaining creatures that got through the rift. Xu also explained that she would be marking this as the field exam for Squall. Rinoa nodded and then leant up to you and whispered in your ear.
"Don't worry I will help you out."
She dropped back down to her feet and smiled to you once more.

Squall followed along silently after Rinoa and Angelo. He found it so odd how she could be so positive all of the time; was it really that easy? Maybe she was just one of those people that liked to keep their head in the clouds. Squall, on the other hand, was much more of a realist; it made him come off as depressed, which sent the wrong signal to people. As long as it kept them away from him, though, he didn't much care what people thought of him on a first glance. Rinoa seemed to smile at everybody she was passing, and Angelo barked every so often only to be quieted by Rinoa patting him on the head. The two had a strange relationship; it definitely wasn't a typical dog and master sort of thing, there really did seem to be something more to it than that. Maybe the dog was also trained as an attack hound of some sort? That would explain why it was brought along with her. That, or they were just inseparable and that was it.
Rinoa suddenly lifted her arm high into the air to wave at somebody. Peering through the small gatherings of people, Squall recognized the person as Xu, the SeeD contact they were supposed to be meeting upon arrival in Esthar so they could get the mission details. Rinoa pointed her out and mentioned she was glad how everything worked out, to which Squall offered a confused yet slight nod in agreement. Rinoa turned around and approached Xu with Squall right at her side, saluting her back as was customary. Apparently, a Queen going by the name of Garnet had been attacked by creatures that came from some sort of dimensional rift. While the initial problem had been taken care of, they were worried about any overflow of additional beasts that had shown up too late; that's where Squall came in. Or so he thought, anyway, until Rinoa leaned in and told him she'd be helping.
She plopped back down to her feet and smiled. ''Thanks..'' As was customary, he offered a single word in response. In his head though, tons of things were being said. Mainly he was wishing she wouldn't come along; that way, he wouldn't have to feel a burden of protecting her and her dog. If he went alone and failed, so be it; he wasn't ready, and he would pay for it. But with the two of them coming...a lot of bad things could happen. He wasn't going to refuse the help, but it definitely put him more on edge. He nodded to Xu that he understood the mission details, and looked to Rinoa to see if there was anything else she felt she needed to add.
[atrb=colspan,2][style=margin-left: 25px; border-left: 3px solid #555555; margin-top: -10px; padding: 20 2 40 12; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; font-family: helvetica; line-height: 14px; color: #a09891; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #111111;] Rinoa didn't even wait for Squall to be ready she just began to walk off into the city of Esthar, Angelo followed suit and stuck close by her. Xu followed behind Rinoa and Squall closely not saying a word, from the looks of things she was under strict instructions not to communicate unless necessary. From the looks of things the citizens of Esthar didn't seem too bothered by any creatures so perhaps this attack had taken place far outside of Esthar. Rinoa glanced to Squall and her cheeks flushed a bright pink once again. She was unsure of why she felt a little nervous around him (not that she would show it). She shook her head lightly letting her dark hair fall against her shoulders. Cid was gracious enough to grant her request so she needed to see it through to the end.
"Good luck Squall. I'm sure you will do great, I've been told you're very talented with that thing."
She didn't know what weapon he used, it looked like a sword but it had a gun barrel attached to it. Nothing like her pinwheel weapon which was attached to her back at this point.
{Make your way to the outskirts of Esthar and I will get a battle set up.}
Rather than make sure he was ready, it actually seemed like Rinoa's mind was on the mission for once; it sort of caught Squall's attention. Whereas the entire time she'd been so bubbly and skipping along, smiling at every stranger, now she seemed more focused than he'd ever seen her. Of course he could have been wrong, but he was going to stick to that thought to fend off some unneeded stress. As was expected, Angelo followed right on her heels, and Squall, seeing her sudden burst of motion, followed suit and ended up beside her after a few minutes but not before catching her turn around to look at him, her face suddenly flushing pink. ''What exactly is her deal...? It's like every time she looks at me her face flushes a different color...'' He thought to himself. He caught himself staring too, feeling his face get a little bit warm. With a blank look on his face for the duration, he shook it off when she did, and hurried to catch up to her.
She made a comment on how sure she was of his talent with ''that thing'' he was using. She probably meant the Revolver; the Gunblade was widely reputed to be the most difficult weapon to use known to Garden, due to the complicated techniques involving its usage. It often took years to learn to use at a basic level, and Squall was no different. He'd trained with the Revolver model since he was permitted to train with live weapons, and poured his heart and soul into his ability with the device. He'd have to explain exactly what it was to her someday if she was curious enough. He nodded to her and spoke but a few words as usual. ''Thanks. I'll do my best, Rinoa.'' After the short exchange of words, he noticed Xu following them closely and silently, a constant reminder of the objective at hand. Not noticing any real form of caution among the public, he was beginning to think the attacks had taken place just outside of Esthar...
With that in mind, he set off on a walk headed toward the outskirts of Esthar, staying mostly silent on the way. He noticed the weapon attached to Rinoa's back; he'd seen it seldom used by a few members of SeeD and some trainees before, and it always held true to the ideal of ranged combat; Squall was never opposed to the idea, it had its place, but he more firmly believed in front-line fighting himself. He walked alongside Rinoa with the Revolver crested on his shoulder with one hand, sharp side out, as the four of them made their way toward the outskirts.
[atrb=colspan,2][style=margin-left: 25px; border-left: 3px solid #555555; margin-top: -10px; padding: 20 2 40 12; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; font-family: helvetica; line-height: 14px; color: #a09891; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #111111;] Rinoa kept facing forwards and didn't look to you until you had all left the city of Esthar, Angelo ran off ahead to which Rinoa quickly started to run after him. She wasn't too alarmed as her had a habit of running off but always came back. Rinoa then suddenly stopped and promptly turned around to face you, she pulled a face at you and stuck her tongue out.
"Sooooo the strong and silent type hehe."
With a giggle Rinoa turned back around but suddenly gasped, in front of Angelo stood a large wolf and without a second thought Rinoa sprinted to Angelo and slid down on her knees. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close trying to shield him from the attack the wolf was about to make. Out of nowhere you heard Xu screech, in front of her also stood a wolf which meant a pack must be near by. Xu tried to reach for her weapon but the strap holding it in wouldn't loosen...Both wolves reared up about to attack their prospective targets..

Squall followed along calmly with the two women. He'd hoped Xu wouldn't get in the way too much; after all, she was only there to observe and not much else. He stepped along, relaxed, trying to keep his mind clear yet focused. He watched as the dog, Angelo, sprinted off ahead which somewhat put him on edge; if the dog was that wired up, he was definitely going to cause some trouble. Rinoa went to run after him, and Squall, thinking there was a situation, ran along after her. Rinoa quickly stopped however and pulled one of her ''cute'' little faces, turning around to poke her tongue out at the young SeeD Cadet. She remarked as him being the ''strong and silent'' type. Was she hitting on him? Was she joking? This wasn't exactly helping him focus.
His eyes opened a little more at the left field comment and his cheeks flushed, yet only a little. She giggled and turned, yet suddenly gasped and he immediately knew why; up ahead, her dog Angelo was faced with a rather rabid looking wolf. Rinoa, with all instinct and no thought, darted forward after her companion. ''Rinoa!'' He called out to her and suddenly dashed at her when he heard Xu scream in shock, his head turning to watch as she had trouble digging her weapon out to defend herself from another wolf. They'd been effectively separated by pack tactics. He could only choose one to help.
Rinoa slid to Angelo and hugged him tight, completely defenseless. Were he anywhere else, she'd have looked like an innocent or a bystander, like someone who needed an escort. Xu on the other hand was armed and trained as a SeeD, and it was his duty to defend innocents before comrades; a tough choice, but one he had to make. He watched the wolf near Rinoa growl as it began to rear back, and went into a mad dash with his heart thundering for the first time in a long while. He had no idea what to call the feeling in his chest, almost like his heart was trying to burst from his body. Adrenaline started pumping and he growled lowly, taking the Revolver into both hands.
He charged at the wolf near Rinoa and flicked the hammer back on the Revolver as the blade dragged against the ground, making a loud screech to hopefully distract both wolves (being canines, their hearing was very sensitive). His speed grew and grew until he reached Rinoa and brought his arms and entire torso from the side into one mighty attack. ''I don't...'' His blade clashed against the wolf's teeth, who bit down on it mid-swing instead of into Rinoa. ''Think so!'' He let off the round within the Revolver, causing the shock to let loose and send the wolf back with a powerful push. He stood in front of Rinoa and turned quickly.
Looking to Xu and knowing he'd be just too late, he attempted to help regardless. He closed his left fist tight and focused, then whipped his hand out toward the other wolf with his hand coated in green-white energy, unleashing a bolt of powerful wind from an Aero spell to hopefully at least buy Xu time; he couldn't see if she'd been injured, but she probably was; in a dire situation like that, only one choice can be made, and he'd been physically closer to Rinoa than Xu in terms of distance.
He looked down to Rinoa and offered his now-free hand. ''...You alright?'' He kept an eye on the wolf he'd knocked back; he couldn't make a mad dash for Xu right now, not with Rinoa and Angelo sitting how they were and the first wolf still close by.
[atrb=colspan,2][style=margin-left: 25px; border-left: 3px solid #555555; margin-top: -10px; padding: 20 2 40 12; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; font-family: helvetica; line-height: 14px; color: #a09891; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #111111;] Rinoa promptly let go of Angelo who stood in front of you both, he began to bark at the wolf trying to keep it at bay. Suddenly Rinoa leapt up and wrapped her arms around your neck, she pulled herself closer to you and nuzzled her face into your chest. Her small body was now pressed up hard against yours and she looked up to you with tears almost falling from her eyes.
"Oh Squall."
Her dark eyes looked into you and for the first moment she felt vulnerable. Her cheeks were now almost red but she wasn't making any attempt to look away or pull away. Angelo barked louder and she did release herself from you. Xu cried out to you. She had managed to free her weapon and was now swiftly moving around the wolf near her.
"I'm fine Squall...consider this the start of the exam!
{RP battle the wolf, a stat battle will come up afterwards.}
Squall narrowed his eyes on the wolf as he and the animal stared each-other down. They clearly now had a score to settle, and the wolf looked even more ferocious than when it was about to sink its teeth into Rinoa. Squall kept his eyes locked with it, showing he wasn't afraid. He noticed Angelo was now moving freely and stepped up a few times, beginning to bark at the wolf to keep it at bay. Before he knew what was happening, though, something unexpected happened and caught him completely off guard. Rinoa leapt up to her feet and closed her arms around Squall tight, burying her face into his chest. The sudden action actually caused him to jump a little; he hadn't had any real physical contact with anyone in a long time, and it was obviously outside of the norm for him.
Somehow though, it felt...different. It felt nice, actually. She looked up at him with what looked to be tears starting to form in her eyes, and the very edges of his lips formed the slightest smile though he held it at bay to keep it from becoming a full facial expression. He closed his free arm around her waist and into him lightly. She stared into his eyes for a while before Angelo barked her back to her senses and she let go, stepping away. Xu's voice rang out and Squall's head snapped back to look over the situation; she was handling herself much better than before, swiftly moving with and around the wolf. She assured that she was fine, and that the exam had now officially begun. Squall nodded and saluted her, then quickly turned back to the wolf.
He stepped forward in front of Angelo and Rinoa and whirled the then-idle Revolver with one hand before grasping it with both, advancing toward the wolf and cutting off its route to everyone else. The wolf snarled and darted forward, and Squall returned the action in kind; the end result was the wolf clambering on all fours straight at him, and his feet pounding as fast as they could carry him straight at the beast. He swung at it fiercely and it leaped over the blade, bouncing to his flank. He quickly whirled on one foot and pressed one hand against the flat of the blade, using it to deflect the creature's bite at the neck.
Following up, he gave it a swift kick to the jaw and brought the pommel of the weapon down on its head, causing it to whimper and hop back. He followed straight after it and it now became more evasive, but Squall's nerves were at their utmost edge. Everywhere it hopped, he followed suit, matching its four legs with his two as they exchanged attacks. Finally the wolf made a powerful pounce that broke through his guard and knocked him off balance. He teetered backward and fell onto his back, holding the wolf back by the throat with one hand as it gnashed at his face and neck, just out of reach.
He brought up his weapon hand and drove his fist into it as hard as he could to tire it out several times before flipping over and grabbing the Revolver with one hand and holding the beast down, driving it down tip first into the creature's chest and kneeling on its belly. It kicked a few times before its movements came to a halt, and it exhaled deeply before remaining still. Squall wiped his forehead with his sleeve then looked to Rinoa, Angelo, and Xu before yanking the blade out of the creature's chest. He took a few shallow breaths as he flicked a bit of blood off of the weapon, then remained on guard as he looked around for other targets.
[atrb=colspan,2][style=margin-left: 25px; border-left: 3px solid #555555; margin-top: -10px; padding: 20 2 40 12; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; font-family: helvetica; line-height: 14px; color: #a09891; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #111111;] Xu had managed to unhook her stave from the holster on her back to attack the wolf in front of her, she glanced up to you and ran over to your side with her weapon still raised. From nowhere several more wolves had appeared that were not native to Esthar, there was something other worldly about them. Rinoa jumped back to your side and focused her sights onto one of the wolves. She took a deep breath in and shouted out for Angelo,
"Angelo strike!"
Obdient as always Angelo took a running jump at Rinoa and to the untrained eye might seem like he was going to attack. Rinoa outstretched her arms and caught Angelo, he quickly turned around on her arms so he faced the wolf. A bright white light began to shine from Rinoa's arms and with a bright flash Angelo had been launched from her arms to hit the wolf. The creature tumbled to the ground while Angelo ran back to Rinoa's side.
{I have asked Shizuma to set up a stat battle for us. You may post before hand if you wish.}
Although the fighting wasn't easy, so far you had all been successful in holding off the abundance of wolves that seemed to be staking claim to the outskirts of Esthar. As Angelo punished an oncoming wolf to your group, you would all notice the emergence of a larger beast heading your way.
It wasn't running about as the smaller wolves were, jumping about and trying to find a perfect opportunity to strike one of you. Instead it casually walked in your direction, a low snarl growing louder the closer it arrived. With a strong stomp of its paw to the ground, the Alpha Wolf emitted a roar of dominance into the sky as the smaller wolves looked to it for guidance. Once it lowered it's head to look upon your group, it stepped over the wolf that had been struck by Angelo and began to circle the three of you to size up the situation.
The smaller wolves followed suit but at a further distance as they seemed to be waiting for something before they would dare to move.
After Squall had finished his brawl with one of the more vicious wolves, he had decided to instead keep an eye out and react to attacks against Rinoa and Xu rather than split himself from them in attempts of an offense. He peered around coldly at the group of wolves, and even blinked in surprise as Rinoa and Angelo made some sort of odd combination attack against one of the wolves, sending it tumbling away injured. Something wasn't right though as he began to notice; the smaller wolves were beginning to back off. Not completely, of course, but enough to arouse suspicion as they watched from the back ranks. Squall looked to the back where he finally understood what was happening.
A much larger wolf trotted along calmly and ominously, offering a low snarl as the other wolves seemed to back off and let it through; Squall could only guess this was the leader of their pack. Slamming a paw to the ground and letting out a powerful roar, it stepped over the downed wolf that Angelo had taken care of. The Alpha circled them slowly, not taking any action; Squall intended on fixing that though. He looked to Xu, Rinoa, and Angelo before flicking the hammer back on the Revolver, charging forward at the Alpha Wolf to establish he had no fear of it, almost like a direct challenge. Just before arrival, he'd leap at it and bring the Revolver down in a heavy slash before torquing his body and ripping it back up, pulling the trigger to give the second slash a good amount of kick. After the quick assault he'd hop backward and run back to Rinoa and Xu's side.

A strong wind picked up around her and with a flash of green light it shot straight at the wolf. "We will do this together...." Aero used 160+50= 210-180= 30 Damage}
With the combined effort of your dual attacks against the Alpha Wolf, it took the blows head on and then began to dig it's claws into the ground to steady it's frame. It was clear the attacks had an effect, especially the magical strikes it took, however the fight was far from over.
Letting out another roar, the beast looked at the two of you before quickly shifting its head to the right as a signal to the wolves that were originally fighting with you. It seemed now they were following the larger wolf's command and acting on it's behalf to attack you two.
All the smaller wolves began to circle around you, slowly decreasing the size of their prowl until they began to rush at you from all sides. With furious swipes coming simultaneously between the various wolves that were in the area, the damage began to add up until the larger Alpha wolf signaled for them to stop with a sharp bark. Just as quickly as they had surrounded you, the smaller wolves backed off and awaited their next orders seemingly as their leader bared its fangs with a daring snarl.

He held the Revolver edge-out toward the Alpha Wolf tucked in tight, pacing back and forth very slowly while he kept his eyes locked with it to try and deter it from attacking the diplomat with him. He glanced to her as her hand began to glow with magical energy, and a strong wind picked up around her which the young SeeD cadet felt as well. In seemingly an instant and with an outstretch of her hand, a flash of green light came into existence as the wolf was struck with a powerful wind barrage. He watched the wolf take the attack, and he certainly had to give it credit for toughness.
Squall watched as the wolf began to dig its claws into the ground to hold the line before letting loose another roar, but this time one of fury and authority mixed. Looking at his surroundings, he saw the smaller wolves beginning to act according to this large wolf's will. He quickly looked to Rinoa. ''They all follow the big one. If we take him down, the others will most likely run off.'' He glanced back to the large beast, and the smaller ones were closing in. He hoped Rinoa was ready, because this was probably going to get very ugly very fast. They suddenly blasted forward, darting in. ''Rinoa, look out!'' He raised himself into a defensive posture, but the wolves were simply too quick. He stood as close as he could to Rinoa to try and take what blows he could in her stead, but they were faster than him.
He felt his body get rocked from one side to the other violently by the darting beasts, knocking him down to a knee by the end of the assault. With a few breaths, he leaned on his sword and swayed back up to his feet, flicking the tip of the Revolver at the Alpha and leaving it suspended, pointing with one hand as the other fished through a deep pocket on his person and withdrew a corked Potion. ''Hey!'' He simply called to Rinoa before tossing it to her. Hopefully it could help recover some of the scratches and bites incurred by that last barrage. Squall on the other hand had no real magic to speak of other than Aero, and his only means of recovery happened to be one more Potion. He wasn't sure what Rinoa was capable of.
He charged forward yet again, seeking to injure it as much as possible. He already had a headache from performing the Revolver Shock, so that wasn't much of an option; instead, he swung downwards fiercely, grasping the handle of the weapon with both hands instead of one on the way down to crash into the beast. After a hasty retreat back to Rinoa's side, he realized just how much his injuries were starting to get to him and made a promise to himself; if he was going to go down, he was leaving this thing with a nasty injury that allowed Rinoa and Xu to get away. If he failed, it was on him, and nobody else should suffer for his mistakes.

{Turn 1 & 2: Rinoa took the potion from Squall and begrudgingly sipped the liquid. It did refresh her a little which perked her up enough to make an immediate decision on what her next move would be. She clicked the safety onto her pinwheel before running up behind Squall. She stood behind him and slowly placed her small hands over his wounds.
"Let me take care of these..."
She closed her eyes and focused her mind and magic onto healing him completely, he was the physical hitter and they needed to work as a team to beat this thing. She pressed herself up against his back so she would also benefit from the healing properties of cure. Once their wounds were fully healed she blushed and walked back to his side. After Squall's two-handed strike, the beast winced slightly upon being hit, but quickly barked in anger as the gunblade user moved back. It appeared at first the wolf was going to lunge right after the young SeeD, but stood relatively where it was. In a slight pacing motion, it almost seemed to be contemplating what to do until it saw Rinoa make her move.
Seeing a green light cascade over both of you and the handiwork of its fellow wolves slowly dissipating, the wolf roared into the heavens again. Perhaps it was hesitant to see what the young girl would follow up with, or biding it's time for the next counter attack. Either way, the wolf began to lower it's frame to the ground with its tail wagging high in the air behind it. You would both note it's claws dig into the earth once more before it launched itself forward into a sprint at both of you, yet something was different.
Reddish dots seemed to be coming off the fur of the beast as it made its charge and gathered around the front of the beast's mouth. It looked like a small concentrated ball of red energy, but as the beast roared towards Squall, the orb of energy launched forward with flames erupting out of it.
Making a swift change of direction upon firing off the 'Fire' magic, the beast took a few gallops before it took flight momentarily to come crashing down upon Rinoa. It's sheer weight combined with the speed it was running at held the young girl pinned to the ground as the leader of the pack mashed it's teeth down at her hungrily.
Squall watched the wolf closely as he felt he'd really been on the ball with that Potion. From what he could guess thus far, Rinoa liked to keep her distance when she fought by any means necessary; that device, her dog, or by magic. Potions were basically the bread and butter supply of SeeD agents in the field where recoveries had to be quick so things could get done, but what Rinoa pulled out of her bag of tricks next definitely surprised him. The tip of the Revolver had been planted firmly into the ground and he rested on it, nearly on one knee as he looked to the Alpha Wolf through a fierce squint; he had to try and cover up his injuries as best he could, because if this thing thought he was weak it would move in for the kill for sure.
Just when he was getting ready to rip the weapon from the ground and knock the beast around, though, Rinoa made her way to him after having consumed the Potion. He felt her press into him and a strange warmth came over him. Turning to look over his shoulder, it became clear very quickly that she wasn't in fact an offensive-oriented magic user; her talents with restorative magic were incredible. He immediately felt the pain of his wounds seep away, and he was back up and on his feet. He stood beside Rinoa defiantly as the wolf charged at them both.
He went to step in front of the young diplomat, yet something odd happened and the wolf turned out to have a nasty surprise, that surprise being fire magic in the form of a fireball launched from its mouth. Immediately recalling his duel with Seifer, he was momentarily caught off guard and sent sprawling onto his back. As he made his way back up to his feet however, he soon learned the wolf had already pounced Rinoa. Gritting his teeth, he swung the Revolver fiercely to his side and pushed one hand outward pointing at the beast, running straight for it with a growl forming in his throat that verbalized as an angered yell upon arrival and his first attack coming in the form of a stab.
Once the blade was firmly planted in the beast, he'd twist the blade and trigger a round in the Revolver at the same time in hopes of making a festering and very angering wound. The fireball it had sent at him definitely took its toll though; he felt worse than ever before, the flames agitating his existing wounds that Rinoa had healed. Right now though, he didn't care about anything else other than getting the thing off of Rinoa and getting her to her feet.

{Turn 1 & 2: Rinoa groggily got back to her feet after the wolf pounced on her for a second time. She looked to Squall who had also been injured again, the young Diplomat hobbled over to Squall and not very graciously slumped onto his back. She cast her cure magin once more onto the both of them. She felt rejuvinated once the white magic had done its work. Rinoa pushed herself off Squall's back and stood by his side. "I won't let you die Squall..."

The beast had been taken by surprise by the increase of Squall's attack, finding itself slinking back from the fresh wound it received in it's side, courtesy of the gunblade. It growled low to calm it's subordinates which could see their leader was reeling from that last hit.
Instead of what it usually did of roaring to skies, the Alpha Wolf instead began to charge another fire attack. It's fur seemed to stand on end as fiery mana began to surround it's frame. The smaller wolves that looked on backed up themselves as if they knew what was coming was a stronger blast.
Within a few minutes, the wolf launched not just one, but two blasts of Fira magic in both of your directions just after Rinoa healed you both. It seemed to want to keep it's distance now as the repeated use of magic seemed to take a bit of energy out of the beast. A few of the smaller wolves began to approach their leader in a protective fashion as it lowered it's frame to the ground to catch it's breath.
Squall was getting increasingly less comfortable with the situation at hand. This had turned from what he thought would have been a fairly average fight to a contest of endurance between he and Rinoa and this wolf. His prime worry right now was keeping a grip on staying conscious. He was relieved to see the wolf slumped back instead of roaring and physically going on the offensive once more, which meant he and Rinoa may have discouraged it or wounded it enough to cease its quick movements and pouncing. To be honest, he wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to hold on and hoped this fight would be over soon; he was taking a lot of punishment along with Rinoa.
He felt her slump against his back again very weakly, causing him to fight numbness and raise the Revolver defiantly in front of his body. He'd protect her no matter what; this was his field exam, and he wasn't going to let her suffer for taking part. He watched as the wolf's fur began to stand on end and an aura of heat radiated around its body before it viciously let loose fire elemental blasts, each a fair deal more potent than the first. Even after Rinoa had cast her healing, Squall's magical defenses were too weak. The Fira spell meant for him slammed straight into him, sending him sailing backwards and onto his back hard with a small amount of smoke rolling off his body before it ceased.
His eyes twitched open and closed as his vision went faint, and his head bounced into the ground once lightly as it went black. He could only hope he wounded the creature enough for Rinoa and Xu to get away...

{Turn 1: Rinoa spun around just to see Squall fall to the ground, everything seemed to be in slow motion at this point to her. She outstretched her arms to him as she swiftly got to his side. Her knees hit the ground hard as she pulled him onto her lap, she placed her right hand onto where the most angry and painful wound seemed to be. The young diplomat closed her eyes and focused all of her magic and mind to bringing Squall back from the brink. Life cast on Squall for 100 HP}
{Turn 2: To help bring Squall back up to his fighting fit self Rinoa then placed her left hand on top of her right and switched her white magic from bringing Squall back to curing him to his full health. Several streaks of lightning shot down from the sky hitting the wolf directly causing it to fall the ground. It smelt quite good slightly burnt. Xu limped towards you both as a medium size plane landed behind her in the distance. She looked to it and then back to you both with a look of relief on her face. She motioned for you both to enter the aircraft so she could go over the events while flying back to Balamb. A considerable amount of time had passed and tonight was a big night for all those that had become SeeDs. Tonight was the SeeD ball!
{If you post getting to Balamb I can do one last post and we can close this thread.}
