Zeromus grew up in the port town of Balamb, the son of a merchantman and an instructor at the neighbouring Balamb Garden. Theres was a loving family. His mother was laid back and carefree, so it fell to his father to push him to his potential.
On his fifteenth birthday, his parents planned a birthday celebration on there merchant ship inviting friends and family to attend. This was barely under way before they came under fierce and sudden attack. An unknown ship had pulled up close and disgorged a contingent of bandits slaughtering everything in sight. Zeromus was hidden by his parents forcing him to watch them get cut down. When he emerged, the mystery ship was gone, his parents ship was foundering and his life was ruined. Now he seeks to find out the truth behind the attack.
Without a place to call home, or any money to live off, Zeromus joined up with a local bandit outfit. Despite never using a sword (besides the brief training with his father) he proved to have a natural ability to wield it. Through constant sparring, this improved in leaps and bounds earning him a high ranking position within the group. He gradually built the foundations for friendship with several members, that despite him speaking little, proved to be loyal to the end.
The real purpose of him joining up with the bandits is to take advantage of its ability to collect information. He desperately seeks any information that will lead him to the ones responsible for the tragic event that crushed his childhood. And unbeknownst to him, he might get a lead sooner than he though...
Roleplay Sample:
It was another cool Autumn night. The wind sending a gentle breeze across the sea towards the camp. He had left the drinking and merriment almost an hour ago and could still hear the laughter and singing from his perch on the lookout tower.
Why shouldn't they celebrate? After all, we did just manage to take a small fortune from a ship under armed protection. That money alone would allow us to fund more projects for the next six months. A fact Saito never ceased to tell me.
Quietly, I asked myself how far I've come since joining up with Saito's group. The answer came almost immediately. Before Saito, I had nothing. No family, friends, nowhere to call home. Despite that, Saito saw something in me. Enough to take me under his wing and teach me everything he had to teach. I'd even managed to make new friends here making me almost forget the past.
But still, a part of me knew that sooner or later this would end. Saito was well known for his planning and information gathering. I had high hopes that he would find out something that I could use to help my quest. I'd just been gazing at the woods when I started. I could've sworn I'd seen something manshaped there a few seconds ago. Or maybe I just had too much to drink. It's probably time to turn in.
Gathering my belongings, I headed to the bunkhouse, nodding my head whenever I ran into red faced laughing comrades. I'd just settled onto my bed when I smelt an out of place fragrance. Placing my hands on my bow, I slowly sat up and tried finding the source of my unease.
'I wouldn't bother if I were you. Bows tend to be useless without arrows.' - such a delicate, feminine voice, yet it still sent shivers down my spine. A woman stepped out of the shadows clutching my quiver. How? How had she managed to take my arrows without me noticing?
She gazed at me gradually getting closer, before breaking out in a smile. It was like she was looking into my soul. I felt fixed to the spot, like I HAD to stay where I was. She came closer whispering in my ear, whilst placing a hand on my cheek.
'When last we met, you were a 15 year old boy. Its relishing seeing how much you've changed in 7 long years. Yet I can still see despite your fierce demeanour, you desperately long to find the truth. What would you do if I could help you on that front?'
Dropping my bow, I slowly took in her words. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It didn't even occur to me to ask how she knew me 7 years ago or that she might be deceiving me. She seemed genuine in her wish to help me. I would do anything to find the truth, and this woman came bearing that knowledge. It must be fate. She was watching me quietly mull over what this meant, smiling when I went to speak. Almost as if she had known the choice I would make.
'Whatever it takes, whatever you desire of me I will do it. I must find the truth!'
'Then it's decided. A boat is anchored just past the mountains. It will leave before dawn. You will have that long to pack your belongings, say your goodbyes and meet us there. Remember, Zeromus. You have pledged yourself to me. There is no turning back now.'
I didn't care. For the first time in seven years, I had a fresh lead. Someone who knew about me, and most importantly about the ones responsible. I would stop at nothing to see this through.
