The night quietly crept up on Jidoor, a stalwart sluggishness slowly overtaking the city as all the little people fled the dark to hide away in their homes. Only one place carried the day's momentum through sunset: the Auction House. Buzzing with the patter of auctioneers and the chatter of a solid turnout, nobody seemed to mind the gaudily dressed jester standing just inside the door...and if they did, they sure as hell weren't going to tell him to his face. An ambassador for the Empire, they whispered in the quietest of tones, but what would they want with us?
He grinned smugly as he watched them craning their necks to mutter, worried, to their neighbors. How great it was to be feared! He'd stand just a little longer, let the tension build as they tried and failed to decipher his reason for coming to Jidoor--the joke was on them! He wasn't visiting for the emperor at all!
The door beside him creaked open as a young man sauntered in and walked right by before doing a very obvious double take and prodding Kefka on the chest with all the audacity of youth. "Hey, man--it's obvious that you don't belong here, leave the auctions for the ric--" A stattaco cry of indignation cut his sentence in two. Kefka's arm whipped out, taking the boy by the neck and with an almost graceful turn, slamming him against the wall. The sharp crack of bone against stone was music to his ears, but it wasn't enough. "You'll all pay for this! I bet you'll enjoy watching your livelihood go up in smoke--FIRE!!" Bright orange sped from his outstretched hand, catching the painting and easel that had been on display as the crowd gawked in fearful silence. It didn't stop with the painting, catching onto the floor, the tapestries draped on the walls, reaching out for the roof while panic finally set in. He only dropped the fool boy when he heard the fist scream.
Kefka quickly ushered himself out the door, barring it tightly with a handy hatchet and making sure it was stuck on the handles tightly enough that it would take ten of him to get it out. The building didn't have a back door, he found, and a wonderful chorus of terrified screams brought him a light, giddy joy. He turned, casting a dramatic withering glare at the shabby, smoking hovel they called a city. How dare they speak to him in that manner‽ How dare they speak to him at all! He pivoted on his heel, angry all over again. He wasn't done with Jidoor, not yet! With a whooping cackle, he strolled out of the city's aristocratic quarter and set out for his next target. He wouldn’t waste his time with the small fries in the commoner’s half of town—he wanted to take out the symbol of finery Jidoor’s people all loved.
The night air carried a ghoulish chill and soon after the moon rose, he arrived. It wasn’t much of a walk at all. He smirked as he looked at the façade of the Opera House and the poster that showed the very best news he could have gotten: “Sold Out”.

That's what Rinoa thought. She had been on the road for some time going from place to place trying to speak to those in charge to warn them of the impending disaster about to befall Gaia. She had brought Angelo along with her as well, it was his first time here not to mention Rinoa's as well. It was all so exciting and almost liberating in a way! Rinoa ran her hand through her long dark hair as she glanced down to Angelo. With her eyes diverted she didn't see the young man but she knew it once he had bumped into her quite hard. The Galbadian Diplomat staggered backwards and turned her body. It was then she saw the flames and black smoke rising into the night sky. She clasped her hand over her mouth as she watched people gather around the Auction House and try to get in to put the fire out. Rinoa took a step towards the burning Auction House but stopped, there wasn't anything she could do really. There were already people around starting to put the fire out and she wasn't much use physically. With a sigh she looked down to Angelo.
"That doesn't look good at all does it Angelo?"
Her furry companion whined whilst rubbing up against her leg, her right hand brushed against his ear as she began to walk in the opposite direction. Rinoa closed her eyes and shook her head as she thought of those still trapped inside but what could she do? She wasn't a hero and she wasn't strong enough to help. A grumble escaped her lips as she looked around trying to find something to take her mind off this situation.
"Fancy a look around the Opera House?"
With a giggle Rinoa began to jog in the direction of the Opera House with Angelo not far behind her.
The smell of smoke drifted as far as the Opera House, and he breathed it in with an emphatic grin. Of course, it would probably be easy to pin the arson on him, but heck—that’s what “Diplomatic Immunity” was for! He didn’t doubt that the emperor was a bit weary of covering for him... but only a little bit weary. Kefka was his most ruthless officer, after all! He was the one who could get the job done when the other high-ranking generals yammered on about “morals” and “kindness”. Gestahl just had to keep him around to strike fear into the hearts of the continent’s citizenry.
He hadn’t expected to be followed, especially not by a pint-sized brat and a pesky mutt like the pair he whipped around just in time to see. She was here to ruin his fun! Well, he’d show her…just like he was going to show every last man, woman, and child in Jidoor! She would regret showing her face around him! Flame blazed in the palm of his hand, lighting his face contorted into an enraged grimace.
”Come to play the hero, huh? Well take this! Fire!”
He cast the spell, turning for a split second before feeling the swinging weight of the Morningstar hidden under his cloak. It was almost as an afterthought that he brought it out, wheeling around to attack her with it even as the flames made contact.
What a pest! I’ll take her out before I take out the Opera…it won’t take long at all! And I’ll make her watch the whole thing come crashing to the ground!! Some hero you’ll be then,
“Isn’t that right, brat!”

{Turn 1: Rinoa didn't even get the chance to dodge the flaming attack, she pushed Angelo out of the way as she drew her Pinwheel weapon. Her eyes met those of a maniac clown. She knew deep down this was a battle she couldn't win, her only physical attack would be too weak and she hadn't even grasped the basic black magic yet. With a heavy heart she looked down to Angelo and sighed. "I guess this might be the end us Angelo, at least we go out together." She petted her best friend and held him close.} No Action Taken. credit `` columba of on the edge[/style]
"Feeling the burn now, aren't you?!" He cackled devillishy, taking in the terror and despair written all over the girl's face. How wonderful to see someone so young resigned to their utter demise!
Kefka glanced down, a second blaze crackling to life in his hand. "Don't think I'm finished with you yet! Fire!!" He cast it with the sort of finality one would expect from a finishing blow even though he knew she would be standing when the smoke cleared...but not for long. He'd decimate her, along with the opera house; after all, he hadn't forgotten why he came all this way to begin with. The fact that the building was still standing made him seethe. Curse this brat for interrupting his work!
A dark rictus of a smile cut across his face as an intense, invisible aura began to bog the air. He would teach her fear...real, soul-crushing fear, before he threw her into the crowded venue and sealed her fate for good! That would teach her a lesson. "You'll remember this beating in the hereafter, little girl!"
A swift sweep of his leg was all it took to separate the dog from its master. His loud, whooping cackle filled the air as the mutt sailed, landing a few yards away. What wimps!
[atrb=colspan,2][style=margin-left: 25px; border-left: 3px solid #555555; margin-top: -10px; padding: 20 2 40 12; text-align: justify; font-size: 11px; font-family: helvetica; line-height: 14px; color: #a09891; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px #111111;] The final hit from Kefka hit her hard, she fell backwards onto the ground. This was really it? She heard Angelo yelp out as he was kicked and then landed a few yards away from her. The young Galbadia Diplomat tried to reach out to Angelo to touch him one last time before death may take her. Tears began to stream from her face and onto the ground, the heat was so intense! Rinoa's breathing began to get laboured and deep, the pain from that last firey attack was just too much for her to handle.
"No one is ever truly gone..."
That was all she could muster to say. It was true though, even if she actually died her someone would come to avenge her. Ha perhaps even Sorceress Blue would. An amusing thought as the darkness took over...
{Rinoa can't attack anyway so just having her KOed now so I'm not wasting anyones time. Rinoa leaves the thread I guess she is unconscious.} credit `` columba of on the edge[/style]
She was weaker than he expected, he realized giddily. Her strength faded so quickly! It was almost as if she had lost the will to live! He giggled, and then he chuckled, and even chortled, his small victory (though not so small to his eyes) rousing him to raucous laughter. Never truly gone! "Well then, you'll just have to be the first!" He leaned down, taking the unconscious girl by the arm and shoving her onto the Opera house stairs.
He backed up and took in the scene for a moment. Everything was coming to a mighty crescendo! The damsel was defeated, the heroes nowhere to be seen, and he, the star, would be making a clean getaway! "But first, to get rid of the evidence!" He raised his arms skyward, taking a few steps back as he felt a mighty power surge through him.
"Comet!!"
He turned to leave, but not before watching the comet crush the once-famous Opera House to smithereens. What joy! What fun! Such drama, and to think it was all at a boring old Opera!
