"What do I have to do to get some food around here? Cast Thunder? By Bahamut, you'd think an inn on such a well-traveled route would have better service...or more workers...or something." Ilkith sat in his booth in the rough-hewn inn along the road to Mysidia. Two days out of the hamlet and already his funds were a little lower than he liked. Well maybe if I hadn't let that bedamned fake minstrel take my money... thought the young mage ruefully as a serving girl came up, looking harried.
"What can Oi get ya, sir? We's just got another cow slaughtered out back, so the meat's noice and fresh." The poor girl was clearly being run off her feet, so Ilkith placed his order without any more griping.
"I'll have a medium-rare steak and a mug of your best ale, ma'am. And take your time. I can see how packed this place is." He barely managed to suppress all the sarcastic comments he thought up as she walked away. She looked like she was about to fall over if she kept working at this pace. Well, I've done all I can without stopping and working here myself, and I suspect that the tips are worse than the drunks in here. Resolving to leave as large a tip as he could afford, Ilkith sat back and relaxed his guard a little. Trouble could leave him alone for today. ****************************************** Word Count: 249 Thread Count: 249 *Note: This thread's events occur before the events of "The Fool's Wisdom."
W hile the other ordered something, the doors to the inn were just gently pushed open, a few different sets of eyes seemed to turn to look at the new comer, it was was definitely something one didn't expect. As they came in so did a rush of cool air which seemed to hold the essence of death which would linger around him like a delicate perfume masked by the fragile look of the person. The shadows painted his face for a moment before revealing soft curves of milky white flesh which were pulled into a gentle smile, while those milky icy blue eyes were glancing around the tavern as the wind caused his long black hair to flow around him like a veil of the shadows. As he stepped in past the door it would close gently behind him. Under the thick black hair something was moving a pair of wolven ears peaked through and a few men twitched uneasily. Grabbing at weapons near by ready to charge the beast as he walked in closer, his clothing became apparent. He wasn't dressed as one would expect a demon to do. As he walked more milky white flesh was in view, most of his body showed actually but even with that he looked more like a female then a male, the slender arms and legs lined with muscles that were long and stringy yet capable of leveling many things within their path this was the road he walked down. The road of the universe.
As he reached up just gently brushing a few ebony strands of silken hair from his face. His lips were curled gently revealing some teeth which were pointed but others that were normal holding a very gentle nature. Showing that he meant no harm to those around him. Yet one man grabbed a metal staff and was coming towards Miumi. As he let out a battle cry and lashed out towards Miumi. Suddenly the true power under that body became apparent, as he pushed off the ground with a sudden burst, As a few patrons tensed, He just let his hand shoot out landing on the other's hand just gently he pushed off their head sending himself past htem. He wouldn't fight it wasn't worth the effort, as he adjusted his skirt and his straps of his sandals which ran almost to his knees. The skirt he adjusted a few ruffles and the chains that he had managed to move around. They clicked and had small runes of power engraved upon them as he looked at them the patrons and servers who just looked at him even the owner of the tavern stood still. He gave a gentle smile. But that was the next part as the man swung his staff at Miumi, The boy's hand shot backwards, It caught the staff within his grasp. IT made a loud clang as it was stopped suddenly it was like it had hit another source of metal. A soft gentle childish voice spoke out.
" I don't wish to fight please stop."
O nce he finished he gave the staff a rough shove that sent the man stumbling backwards into his friends who realized that this child would hurt them if he needed to. As he walked the tight corset that he wore tightened ever so slightly and he adjusted the chant black leather jacket that he had become so accustom to wearing. As he just fiddled with a smooth glass pendent he noticed one figure one who was calm despite that he just slowly moved over and took the seat across from them.
Most interesting...a demon with the outward appearance of a human. An androgynous human, to be sure, but clearly a humanoid figure. Quite an interesting thing... thought Ilkith as the crowded tavern quieted to damn near complete silence. The entry of this newest patron seemed quite provocative to some, the attentive young mage noted several hands straying near weapons laid aside in the name of a night of revelry.
Only one man was brave (or, perhaps, foolish) enough to actually attack the seeming child. He was quickly subdued and the Magus found himself impressed at the youth's restraint. Most demons he'd heard of would have torn the human apart, limb from limb, merely for having the impudence to attempt to strike them.
He was slightly surprised that the youth noticed him, usually people overlooked the thin young man in purple, but this child was clearly attuned more carefully than most. Ilkith worked hard at not getting noticed until it was necessary.
The being sat down opposite him and introduced itself as Miumi. Ilkith blinked once or twice, then extended a hand across the table, offering the traditional greeting between new acquaintances: the good old-fashioned handshake. "Ilkith Pietry, wandering teacher. If it's not too impolite to ask, are you male or female? It's not important, but I do like to know the gender of my dinner companions. Wench! I'll cover the child's tab, get him some food and drink, you look damn near emaciated."
As Ilkith waved over the server, the patron's returned to their usual pursuits, though there was a subdued feeling to the place that hadn't been there before. Several patrons quickly paid and left, leaving the tavern a little less packed than before, but the smell of onions and mushrooms being fried in the kitchen overruled many patron's instinct to flee.
One group that definitely did leave was the friends of the fool who'd attacked Miumi. Ilkith noted that fact and hoped trouble wouldn't come of it. ******************************************** Post Count: 341 Thread Count: 590
W hen he sat down across from the magican and scholary looking fellow suddenly an eerie silence fell across the tavern before soft whispers that he could still hear went around as he just gently smiled and would reached into his bag he carried pulling out a small teddy bear which sat within his lap for a few seconds eerily silent but then it's eyes opened to reveal icy blue eyes which reflected the knowing child's gaze as well. As the bear looked aronud it's eyes were taking in the room and slowly it got up and jumped from the child's lap looking around and even exploring while the child sat there silently as if he had done this millions of times before well truth was he had. As the child just sat there looking around uneasily as he stretched he would reach down undoing the tight corset since it was beginning to hurt him as he did he just slid it gently from his body revealing that the chest was flat and that he had bandages underneath his shirt he was wearing. While one man was making gestures at Miumi but the boy turned around and stared at him the stare lasted for what seemed like an eternity the man turned red and turned away. As Miumi fiddled with something he seemed quite amused as he put the clothing away it was becoming more obvious as he turned away an adam's apple was visible it was small but there giving away his gender.
" Umm nice to meet you mister scholar and i'm a boy. So no dirty thoughts I'm spoken for by a special someone ."
A s he mentioned that special someone his face turned a slight red and he looked down at the ground as he idly reached up and spiraled his hair around his finger twisting the locks gently.
"Sorry, you just seem diffrent from the rest. Do you know powerful magic? People say I'm strong as a summoner Ihave to be"'
Ilkith smirked slightly. So the boy was spoken for? Interesting that the child's mind instantly went to such matters, his certainly hadn't. For one thing, even were the demon across from him female, he still looked far, far too young. Ilkith had met a few people who might have been interested in him, but most of them were six feet under.
As a result of Ilkith's direct action. There was nothing he despised more than the tormenting of the weak, be they women, children or idiots.
"I know some few spells, yes. I cast them only when threatened and avoid trouble where I can, but between my unfortunately natural altruism and trouble's propensity to seek me out, I've been forced to be a little more active lately." Ilkith's eyes gleamed with a spark of greed as he gazed over the youth's head. "I'm going to Mysidia just now, there to visit with my family and mentor and, perhaps, catch an airship to Balamb. It's been five years since I last visited the capitol and I've met a few people on the road who seemed to indicate that Balamb Garden has relaxed it's admission policy. All that knowledge, all that power, accumulated and stored in one place...it gives me shivers."
For a moment, the hunger, no, the lust for knowledge and power shone clear on the mage's face. A hand strayed inside his robe unconsciously to caress the Grimoire, which sent a slight surge of demonic power through the room, so slight that even those normal people who had recognized the beautiful young man for a demon didn't notice it. **************************************************** Post Count: 283 Thread Count: 853
W hile the soft face of the demon was a map of mystery and wonder it seemed. A small smile placed itself upon his tiny pink lips as the other seemed to be getting some kind of kick from his response. He knew what the other was probally thinking how could something so pure and innocent have such a tainted mouth, it was quite simple, he wasn't the pure little angel everyone one saw, he was a deceptive little creature, capable of ripping your heart out if he so truly desired, he was regarded as a warrior upon the battle field, capable of leveling partial armies all his own with just the swing of a blade, the crack of a finger. All that was used to bring forth the power of his magic. As the boy seemed entranced by something he just idle fiddled with his necklace as he listened he could hear the sound of metal sliding from a sheath, yet he leaned forward and acted as if it was a sound that was invisible to his finely tuned ears. As he leaned forward, a small figure rose from the crowd, their hands at their side, but there was a small tell-tale glint, as they began to walk towards their table. Miumi just maintained contact with the other. As the man passed behind Miumi he pulled the blade out revealing it was a wickedly pointed dagger slamming it into the back of Miumi's neck, but there was one problem with his plan. The dagger stuck in the first layer of skin.
He tried to pull it away and tried to push it farther in while, Miumi just smiled this was the result of his training as he reached up grabbing the hilt of the dagger pulling it from his neck, there wasn't even a trickle of blood, that was a cheap assassin move, they'd need to be farm more skilled then that to take him down. He fiddled with the dagger idly before he flung it to the the ground between the sick man's legs, he just stared at the other Miumi's eyes narrowed like a cat's becoming thin black lines as he glared. The man seemed to want to run as he did. A few tavern people just stared and Miumi turned his head back to the other listening to them talk. If Illkith hadn't realized that Miumi hadn't been carrying the dagger he may of just thought nothing of it but he had the feeling the scholar would realize that Miumi, was more then he looked, his skin was tougher then the average human, his training methods were crazy and painful, but they had saved his life, he wondered if he could pass the knowledge onto his man, as he looked over the scrawny hands and arms. He got up and began to feel the other's arms for muscle, there wasn't much to work with. He just kind of silently walked back and sat down and stared witing for the awkward silence.
"If you wish to see true magic follow me."
A s he spoke thos words, he rose up the man that had ran was probally sweating by now, as a few of the patrons tensed but Miumi just slowly worked his way to the outside of the tavern a few who were by the windows moved to see the child, as he stood there, there was an undeniably breeze that seemed to circle around the child, causing those black locks to flare up but behind it all they saw the glint of white that was a smile. As Miumi focused, his body spiraled around rapidly. As he did he would focus, his lips moved silently in achant as he did there were hot red orbs forming around his body turning to a bright burning blue, slowly his hands clenched upon them crushing the power, as he did so he brought his hands to his lips, he blew out, the hot power spiraled around him, it was amazingly beautiful to watch as the petals spiraled red hot and then as they came down. Even if the other hadn't budged the view was stil undeniable, as he focused he took adeep calming breath as the hot embers began to rain down as he took a gentle spiral,A trace of cold glowing silvery wind spiraled around him, frost glowed delicately on the ground now as he just giggled and spiraled some more the hot embers turned black. Then Miumi pushed off the ground and suddenly energy could be seen radiating, as he moved pulses of blue and yellow even purple flowed from limb to limb.
Slowly orbs of lightning could be seen fomring on each finger exploding outwards taking out the hard lumps of the dried ember. While Miumi landed gently on the ground while he smiled. He would wait for Illkith before he showed the next part of his power.
"Thus is the true power of magic, I can teach you more of what I know though."
Ilkith knew the assassin was coming, but he wished to know what the young-seeming demon would do. As it turned out, even if he had been worried, such worry would have been misplaced as the child seemed to have both nerves and skin of steel. He doubled over in silent laughter as Miumi shut the assassin down with nothing more than a look and barely managed to get himself under control by the time the demon felt his arm, checking for muscle he assumed. He wiped tears from his eyes as he continued to laugh sotto voce, watching the demon walk back to his side of the table.
Eventually, he managed to get out, in a strangled voice, "Do not worry, my friend, my body has never seemed strong." As the rail-thin man continued to speak, his laughter seemed to be put aside for the moment. His lilac eyes seemed to grow soft and far away, remembering a simpler time. "But, in what few street fights I got into as a youth, I held my own. I may not be big, but what I lack in muscle I make up for in brains...and good companions." Ilkith grinned a little, remembering his friends from the streets of Mysidia, now long grown up and doing their part to aid the capitol's community.
But there was a time for reminiscing later. Back in the present, Miumi said something about true magic and rose, stepping out of the tavern lightly. Ilkith hailed down a server as he rose and asked her to put his food in a waxed bag as he followed, slipping her twelve Gil to speed the process.
As he stepped outside the tavern, the first thing he noticed was the sheer amount of control the boy had. The display was quite obviously meant to showcase the...What was that word I read for the denizens of that plane? Lutravig? Luxatich? No...Lucavi! That was it....Lucavi's powers.
The Grimoire reacted strongly, nearly lifting Ilkith off his feet. Sliding his black ironwood wand out of his sleeve quickly, he touched the Grimoire with it, whispering, "Quieten, book."
Ilkith suddenly realized something. The power that was radiating off of the Lucavi was extremely similar to that which the Grimoire gave off. Not exactly the same, but similar enough that the differences were notable. I get it...the Grimoire must be a demonic artifact...but it's never tried to possess me...strange. This bears a closer look later. Now, though...
Ilkith turned his attention back to the impressive youth, whose feet were just now touching the ground, his internal dialogue set aside for the moment. ******************************************************* Word Count: 477 Thread Count: 1330 *Please note that red text in italics is self-talk or lucid thinking, not spoken dialogue.
