With a name like Nightmare Darklight and a career like a professional hitman/assassin, you'd probably be expecting him to be broody, cold, dark, evil, that whole thing. Well, you couldn't be more wrong. Despite all shock and horror, Nightmare is in fact a human being with human feelings. He doesn't constantly reflect on some mistake or some tragedy. Yeah, if a tragedy comes by he might be depressed for a little bit. But he'll eventually accept it and move on.
He's also arrogant, very arrogant, but even that tends to be overshadowed at times in that he is essentially a troll. He'll constantly twist one's words, even an outright insult, and either turn them against the person giving him a hard time or make him look like the good guy. Needless to say, he's good with words. Failing that, he just shrugs, stops caring about what the person has to say, and moves on. If it comes to it, he has no problem just walking away. He's a rather cheerful troll.
He is somewhat fidgety. While he's talking, don't be surprised if he makes a few motions during the whole thing, whether it be something as small as leaning back or waving a hand in a dismissive manner, to full blown theatrics. Granted, he usually saves the full blown theatrics for something he finds ridiculous, or if he's just mocking someone. Yep, even his quirks help portray him as a jerk.
Boredom comes quickly. Frankly, if something stalls, it won't be long before he starts voicing displeasure about the situation. At first, it'll start with a few non verbal cues, then he'll start getting vocal about it. It can get rather annoying for those that have to put up with him throughout the entire ordeal.
Nightmare is extremely intelligent however. Able to effectively second guess someone else and get in their head, and figure out the answer to a problem rather quickly. He actually applies this to his line of work, showing that despite his jackassery and impatience, Nightmare can be an extremely tactical, calculating, and methodical man, often staging his hits as accidents. He's so good at his job that pretty much no one is even aware he exists. This is good, as with his profession, you need to be smart if you want to be the best.
You kinda have to wonder how he gets contracts if no one knows he exists.
One thing you may notice about him though, is that he seems to have a medium awareness of sorts. No, he's not the kind to go around shouting "NONE OF YOU ARE REAL!" but he will react, even if it's small to things that most people normally wouldn't pick up on. If you tell him your parents are dead, he won't react like a normal person. He'll instead mock you relentlessly, and declare that he has dealt with dead parents so many times it's gotten old.
He's also a bit of a motor mouth. If he has the chance, he will talk and talk and talk with the utter inability to shut up. He also tends to be somewhat polite most of the time. Even it's during a contract, he'll be polite, and maybe have a bit of friendliness. The phrase "Hello! This is the part where I kill you!" probably isn't too far off the mark.
Frankly put. You either love him or hate him.
Appearance:
Nightmare is what you could consider to be "good looking", with a nice head of blond hair and a good athletic build with a decent complexion. He can't really stand up to all the pretty boys in the world, but he does the best he can, which he feels is a pretty good job. He stands at a fairly decent height of 6'0 and weighs in at 72 kg. To be honest, a lot of people would see him as fairly cute.
To be honest, Malevolence is literally all he wears. He just has it change shape so he isn't always wearing the same thing. This is what Nightmare tends to wear though when he's not off adventuring and traveling. Town wear mainly. You'll find him wearing either a red or black dress shirt, with black (or occasionally brown) dress pants and matching shoes. There's nothing really fancy, or elaborate, and he'll be wearing this when he's relaxing. On his wrist wrist is a watch, allowing him to tell the time when he needs to know what time it is.
This is what Nightmare wears when he is off in the dangerous, harsh deathworld that is Gaia.. It looks like something straight out of a horror film, something you would see on someone over with Chaos. That's the idea. It's form fitting, and it provides light protection. Occasionally, there are four claws due to Malevolence's compression that allow for something of a secondary defense. Four strips of cloth fall from the waist for aesthetic purposes. Lastly, it has a helmet with a filter and a visor. While Nightmare doesn't like wearing it as it obstructs his vision somewhat, he will if he knows there's smoke or other forms of gases. Or whenever he fights a Malboro. Damn Malboros.
Equipment:
Silversnake
It's a longsword made from adamant that Nightmare's used forever. Four feet long and well taken care of, it's seen the guy through a lot. Even now he still uses it, and has no intention of getting rid of it anytime soon.
Combat Abilities:
Level 1 Slots:
Malevolence
A shape shifting suit of armor. That's... about it. To go into detail though, Malevolence is a suit of armor that can change its shape according to Nightmare's thoughts. All it can really do at the moment is compress itself. But even that has its uses. Oh, and it can change colors. Not really useful, but varied.

History:
It all started twenty three years ago, when Alexander was born. He was born in Kilika, all the way over in Spira. Truth be told, he really didn't have an eventful childhood. He learned how to swim, and even mess around with a blitzball. Nothing really fantastic, but then again, they were living in a mostly safe place. Sin didn't seem to bother Kilika when he was a kid.
Eventually though, Alexander grew up and left to find his place in the world. Leaving at the age of 17, Alex wandered the world for three years, learning about different cultures, finding a few goodies, sleeping under the stars. Oh, and figuring out how fiends and monsters and crap did their damage. Really, he would be putting that kind of knowledge to use later on in his life.
And Malboros. Damn Malboros.
Either way, after those three years, Alexander moved to Midgar, making the assumption that he'd have plenty of opportunities. Well, he was right, just for the wrong reasons. When he arrived, he quickly lost all the money he had saved up, whether it was through pickpockets or flat out being mugged, Alexander found himself broke rather quickly. He hadn't even found a house yet, so he was pretty much a bum.
No one gave him any change, if you're wondering.
Eventually, he was approached by someone living up above the plates. He looked kinda nervous down here. But, he had a proposition. His wife was filing for divorce and she was kicking his ass in court. He'd pay Alexander to kill her. Alexander did actually protest, pondering why he was coming down here and approaching him on this. His answer was... slightly stereotypical. "Don't slum bums do this kind of thing all the time?"
Alexander gave him a rather offended look.
Nonetheless, he really needed the money, so he took it. Putting his experience and his knowledge to use, he did... better than he expected. He was able to make it look like an accident. The police ruled out homicide, and that was the end of it. Holding up his part of the bargain, Alexander was indeed paid. A lot. Easily enough to get him by for a year or two.
He'd found himself a nice career.
Using the money he did get, he got himself a nice little crapshack in the slums. He would read the paper, which always had the latest news on the higher ups, especially their drama. Using that info, he would travel up above the plate, tracking down the noble at their breaking point, and making them an offer that they simply couldn't refuse. With a personal guarantee it would look like an accident, it looked too good to pass up, and they never did.
However, in order to keep police off his trail, should they find out, he adopted the alias Nightmare Darklight. He introduced himself as such to clients, so they couldn't try and sell him out later on if they suddenly got a pang of guilt.
After a year of contracts and living in the slums, he was able to move out of said slums, high up above them, in the plates. He was moving up in the world. Contracts were easier to preform, and he was able to move around much easier. And of course, the money kept flowing. After all, professional hitmen were expensive. Very expensive. So Nightmare never really had money problems ever again.
Who said crime didn't pay?
Two years later, Nightmare is 23, and he's got enough cash that he could literally walk away from the business and he would never have to work a day again. With the precautions he took to protect himself legally, very few people are even aware that a "Nightmare Darklight" exists, much less that he's a professional killer.
And you know what? He is. Maybe. He's got enough funding to live the rest of his life, and he's going to spend sid life traveling the world? Why? Because he can, that's why.

Had the eighteenth cycle begun already?
Slowly, Garland started to wake from his slumber, lying facedown on the ground, near the Edge of Madness, Chaos's domain. The Stalwart was dazed for a moment before reaching for his weapon, placing the massive sword in the ground. From there, he lifted himself up onto his feet, using False Stalwart as a support for balance, of sorts. The last thing he remembered was being struck down as the Warriors of Cosmos headed towards the God of Discord. Judging from the eerie quiet of things, it was probably safe to say they had succeeded and the cycle had restarted. This brought Cosmos's win streak to five. Chaos would not be pleased upon learning such disheartening information. It was a time like this he was grateful for his unique ability to remember the events of previous cycles. It gave him an idea of what he, and his fellow warriors, were in for.
When he heard the call from Chaos, Garland could merely respond with a slight Hrmph before deciding to answer the call. Turning towards the volcano that held Chaos's throne, Garland began a casual stride towards the Edge of Madness, dragging False Stalwart behind him. The Stalwart made his way up the slope, heading towards the gateway that preceded the Edge of Madness. He was alone, so chances were that he would be the first person to arrive there. Perhaps the others had not yet received the call? Maybe they had gotten it and they were on their way, with Garland having gotten lucky in waking up near the throne of Chaos. Still, he didn't like the quiet. He was never comfortable when it was this quiet, not in this world, not within the infinite cycle. The world was sleeping for now, but hopefully it would wake up soon, and Garland could once again integrate into the world he was so accustomed to.
As he entered the Edge of Madness, he noticed the God of Discord sitting on his throne, in the same position he had for every cycle. Garland had always had a little bit of an odd feeling, knowing that he was gazing upon his future self, what he would become. The clanking of his armor being the only audible thing in this sleeping world, Garland made his way over to the center of the throne room. Placing his weapon in the ground, the Stalwart fell to one knee, placing his right hand on his chest, on his heart. It was his way of silently pledging loyalty to Chaos, it was something that he had done throughout every cycle. This one would be no different, as the two of them began to wait for the other warriors summoned by the god to appear. Garland knew the pattern, he knew that once they did, Chaos would begin his explanation, the same one he gave every cycle without fail.
