Nightmare is best described as a jerkass. He has no problem doing whatever it takes for a quick and easy win. Kidnapping? Sure. Robbery? Why not. Murder? Oh yeah. Blowing up an orphange full of sick babies? He'd do it if it gave him an edge. He's an absolute bastard with no sense of morality. If he can find a way to make a battle surprisingly easy for him, he'll do it. The only exceptions is for very rare cases, in which he might actually draw it out.
Most people would expect that with someone like that, his intentions would set off a knight a mile away. This is actually false. Nightmare is surprisingly charismatic. He's even been accused of having a silver toungue. Nightmare knows what to say to charm someone, and he knows exactly how to push someone's buttons. He's able to hide his intentions quite well. He's used this to gain someone's trust before ruining their lives to benefit his own.
That does allude to that he is intelligent. This is a fact as well. Despite the fact he's effective in combat, he's also highly intelligent. Nightmare is a living example that you don't need to be stupid in order to be strong. He's able to devise strategies on the spot. His tactics often use the environment and his surroundings rather than relying purely on his powers.
There are however times, when he can be quite playful. He won't necessarily ALWAYS try to ruin someone. Even he enjoys a break from being the jerkass every now and then. When he's like this, he can actually be a bit on the nice side. This isn't permanent however, as people do tend to see the jerkass later on.
Strangely enough concerning his past, Nightmare does not have amnesia. People tend to ask his life story, he always starts out with "I remember my first day in Spira...". When questioned on whether he has amnesia or not, he denies it. According to him, he has complete memory of all the events before his "First day in Spira". He just doesn't like talking about it, and tends to get a bit snappy if asked on it too much.
Nightmare refers to his battle style as "Dark Slayer". It's a specially designed fighting style that mixes both martial arts and swordplay. Not all enemies can be stopped with quick clean swordsmanship. He can beat and brutalize an opponent with his arms and legs if necessary. But the Dark Slayer style incorporates both. One moment, Nightmare could be punching, kicking, smacking you with the hilt of Silversnake. The next could be you in the air from a kick to seeing a glint of adamant right above you.
Appearance:
Nightmare is an average built young man. His caucasian skintone leads some to question his point of origin. His shaggy and unkempt golden blonde hair hangs in his face, going down to his neck on the back. He has lazy sapphire blue eyes which he uses to non chalantly gaze at others. He stands at 6 ft. and weighs in at 158 lbs.
His normal attire consists of a dark trenchcoat which covers most of his body. He has two black gloves on both his hands, which are actually more gauntlets than gloves. On his legs are dark black pants, suited for combat situations, allowing him to move his legs freely for speed and agility. He wears two pitch-black boots, which are supposedly designed for all terrain. To compliment it all, he wears a long blood red scarf, reaching down to his ankles, which tends to flow behind him quite often.
When he activates his ability, Armour of Malevolence, his normal attire seems to vanish. Instead, his entire body save his head is covered in a black and dark blue armor. With spikes portruding from the hands, knees and shoulders.
Equipment:
Silversnake
A sword made of Adamant. The blade is nigh unbreakable, yet it is lightweight enough for Nightmare to effortlessly swing it with one hand. The blade itself seems to glisten in any light, making it a lantern of sorts. It has enough cutting power to slice through lesser blades (Read: Faceless mooks)
Thompson Contender
An interesting weapon to say the least. It's interesting in that it can interchange between both a rifle, and a pistol. The parts and the weapon itself, Nightmare keeps tucked away inside that coat of his, so it's always on hand. When in the pistol form, it's not that large, noticeable, but not large. When in the form of a rifle, it's about as large as a normal .22. Thankfully, because he can assemble, and disassemble, he's prepared for multiple scenarios. He's even able to give the gun a sniper's scope, pistol or rifle. It shoots normal lead bullets, which he sometimes tends to combo with his Godhand ability. Both Pistol & Rifle variations are single shots.
Hairclip
This is an unusual item. It holds no real magical value. Nor is it usable in combat. It's just a simple golden hairclip. Yet, Nightmare seems to hold it for value. Sentimental value more than anything according to him.
Combat Abilities:
Level 1 Slots:
-Phantom Swords
Nightmare is able to conjure up 5 magical onyx blades. These blades comply with any thoughts of Nightmare's. He's able to control each individually with just a though. He can make each one attack, defend, move, act as a shield for others. They'll work by a mere thought process.
-Armour of Malevolence
A dark suit of armor that was created by Nightmare, for Nightmare. In short, this is his own personal armor, and seems to fit him quite well. The armor itself seems to be a chain link mesh, fitted with actual pieces. It's lightweight, and surprisingly, providing him amazing protection from cutting weapons (though blunt force still does the trick), it seems like the ideal thing for him. And Nightmare, being Nightmare, just had to fit it with a few perks. Nightmare can summon and dismiss the armor at will.
However, it gets REALLY dangerous. Nightmare has always found the Malboro a fascinating creature, and thus set out to replicate its Bad Breath for his armor. He succeeded. While Nightmare is of course immune to the stuff he made, allies and enemies are not, meaning anyone else could be affected. Thankfully, he can toggle this on and off, so if he's fighting with someone, he can just disable the mist and the Armor will function like normal. However, when he does use the mist, a dark purple fog will begin to settle around Nightmare in a 20 ft radius. Of course, if you walk into this fog, it REALLY screws you up. Several effects will overtake you, and it could be really bad. Of course, if you're stupid and STAY inside the mist, the effects have a tendency to refresh themselves. However, it does not have to be in the form of a mist. Nightmare can shoot it from his palms, or have it just somewhat come out of his arms. Yes, even hugging Nightmare can be potentially deadly. The effects are as follows.
Effects inflicted on contact with the mist.
Poison: The enemy is poisoned, and will be filled with constant nasuea. The poison will kill the enemy in 5 turns if it is not treated. The Poison can be treated with any anti-venom, poison immunity, or even vomiting will remove the effect. So if you have neither, just throw up and you'll be fine. No, the countdown still continues if the mist refreshes itself.
Silence: For the next two turns the opponent is unable to cast any spells, though combat skills, as long as they are not magical in nature, will still be able to function.
Godhand
To put it bluntly, Nightmare has an extra life. This is an effect that only takes place when he dies, and no matter how he dies, he will come back once. If decapitated or maimed, he will simply regenerate the parts lost and get back up. If he is however, completely obliterated, he will use leftover magical residue and completely recreate his entire body. This ability not only gives Nightmare an appearance of true immortality, it's also unpredictable, and a great demoralizer.
Level 2 Slots:
-Armour of Malevolence ( level 2)
:: Added Status effects
Blind: For the next three turns, the opponent cannot see ANYTHING. This means that they will probably miss, a lot. Dodging also becomes insanely easy for Nightmare. When the opponent is blinded, Nightmare only needs 25% of their word count to dodge it.
Confusion: AKA, the Teamkilling effect. While confusion will only last for three turns, for those three turns, the affected may have to attack an ally or themself, if they can find them. If there are no allies and it is simply a one on one battle, Confusion may cause the confused to attack themself. If Nightmare's post has more words then they opponent's, then the opponent has to attack either themself or a teammate.
Godhand,
With the second level of Godhand being attained, Nightmare's total amount of lives have increased to four, and the ability to gain temporary immunity to whatever has killed him. For example, if Nightmare were killed by a fireball, or a sword encased in flames, or something akin to that, Nightmare would be rendered immune to the entire fire element for the rest of that battle. It extends not only to elements, but materials and abilities as well. Should Nightmare be killed with a steel blade, steel will no longer harm him for the rest of the battle. If a death effect is cast on him, it will no longer work when he is finally resurrected.
Phantom Swords II
Like the first level of the Phantom Swords, only Nightmare is able to conjure up fifteen instead of five. And on command, he can scatter each blade into hundreds of shrapnel pieces, allowing him to shred his foes with ease, much like throwing someone into a blender
Level 3 Slots:
-Armour of Malevolence
:: Added Status Effects
Berserk: A rather painful, and final effect of the Corrupting Mist. When under this effect, the opponent will be just RAAAAAGE and go on an all out offensive, forgetting all about tactics to just chase down and beat the crap out of Night (or if they are confused, an ally). This only lasts for 3 turns. However, during those three turns, the enemy has triple physical strength, and loses the ability to feel pain. However, the downside is that they will become unable to dodge ANYTHING thrown their way.
Virus: So long as the enemy is affected by this, they will not be able to gain any EXP, they must find someone to cure it.
Godhand
With the Final level of Godhand, Nightmare retains the immunity and has a total of twelve lives. Those without a very large, versatile arsenal at hand will find themselves unable to permanently kill Nightmare. This means that in order to be permanently killed, Nightmare has to be killed in twelve very different ways in order to stay down, otherwise he'll just get right back up and be at 100% again.
Phantom Swords III
With the final level of the Phantom Swords, Nightmare, along with being able to summon the telekinetically controlled blades, or dissolving them into shrapnel, Nightmare is able to conjure up an extra five blades per person's shadow, allowing for a quick, unexpected attack from behind that could easily be fatal.

History:
When asked about his life before his "First Day in Spira", the documentary crew suffered several injuries, both major and minor. What Nightmare's Lawyer said that what Nightmare meant to say was that he didn't like talking about his life before the first day. He agreed to talk about anything after that.
Apparently, the first thing Nightmare did upon arriving in Spira, was end up killing a shopkeeper. Of course, Nightmare claimed it to be in self defense. According to him, it started with an argument over an item. The shopkeeper brandished a weapon, Nightmare reacted in kind and ended up impaling him with several phantom swords. No arrests have been made, as no one was around, thus, the police really have no clue on who's side to take.
Several months passed, and Nightmare eventually started making a bit of a living for himself. Ironically, as a Mercenary, though most of his missions ended up being escorts. Again, in a fit of irony, Nightmare stated he despises escort missions the most. Saying that they tend to be the biggest pains.
The massive amount of escort missions he did, eventually inspired him to call himself a Death Knight. He still hates his escort missions with a passion though. Nowadays, he can still be seen on missions. He has been attacked and targeted before. But, spying has shown that when not on a mission, he tends to relax a bit amidst doing general acts of jackassery. For some reason, he tends to play around with the hairclip, muttering under his breath.

(The following is taken from Dancing Mad and has been granted by Malice for use)
The lights in Zanarkand were bright as ever. They pierced the night sky, making it seem like a constant day. It was definitely a city that never slept. That was what was so famous about it. It relied heavily on machina, and other various forms of machinery. This was Zanarkand after all.
Schools however, were closing, and Nightmare seemed to be on his way home. It was a place he rented, using an alias of course. Saying you were from Bevelle in Zanarkand was practically suicide. No one would be able to be stupid about that and live to tell the tale.
He strolled down the illuminated street. People were in large crowds and cheering, it seemed a blitzball game was going on. Blitzball, he had never really shown any interest in the sport. Then again, he wasn't really a sportsy kind of person. That was just the way Nightmare was.
Unfortunately, the cheers soon turned to screams and panic. People started pushing and shoving, others trampling each other just to get away. What was causing this commotion? Had a fiend gotten in? People seemed to make such a big deal about them here. It seemed as if one got in everyone was going to die. Well, some might.
Looking up, Nightmare saw exactly what it was that scared everyone. It was monstrous, a gargantuan whale of sorts. It easily was the size of a few airships he had seen flying in the sky before. But what was it though? This had Nightmare both curious, and a little nervous.
"Is that a... giant space whale?" Nightmare looked on in disbelief. It seemed like one of the stupidest possible conclusions. But for some reason, it was all that came to mind. It wasn't really what someone with his intelligence jumped to that quickly, but perhaps the shock and fright had overtaken his mind.
He really didn't have time to figure things out, as said giant space whale opened its massive maw, and a sphere of translucient neon colored power began to materialize. Within seconds, the sphere was released, rushing towards Nightmare at a quick pace. Nightmare stared at it, certain he was going to die. He was dead, dead as a doorknob. His life would be cut short so soon. But it seemed like it wouldn't be so. Several seconds before the blast hit the city, a bright light enveloped Nightmare, and it seemed he had disappeared from the world.
When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a different place. He seemed to stand on water itself. It was mostly plain and barren as it seemed like an endless ocean. Yet he could stand on it. In the middle was a low sitting white chair, flanked by two shell like structures. Sitting in the chair was a beautiful woman with long, flowing golden hair and a long white dress, a small smile on her lips.
Nightmare calmed a little, taking in everything that had happened. Still a bit shocked, he was more than curious as to what had happened. Zanarkand had been attacked and now he was here. "Ok then..." he managed to force himself to breathe out, still a bit shaken.
