Amalthea walked along the road towards the Fire Cavern, she didn't like coming here if she could help it, she felt uneasy whenever she was here, as though spirits were restlessly waiting for release. Amalthea's hair flowed out behind her as she walked and with evey step, the bell attached to her clothes jingled a merry sound. The bell's sound always made her feel better which is why she had attached it to her clothes, but it wasn't helpful when she was on a mission that involved sneaking. Amalthea's bag hung at her right side and she had her bow in her left hand, as if waiting to be attacked.
Amalthea was walking along this road with a purpose, she had been told that some students had gone missing on the way to the Fire Cavern or while inside and she was to investigate and try to find the missing students. Amalthea could see the Fire Cavern in the distance, there was a forest to her left and the sea to her right. She kept hearing rustling from the forest, which wasn't unusual but with every rustle she would tense a bit incase something came out to attack her. Her hand kept darting to get an arrow but when nothing happened she would move her hand away slighty.
"It's bad enough I had to come here for my exam and for a mission the other week, but now I have to come here again and look for some students who we're too stupid to stay on the path!" Amathea said this very loud out of annoyance but her voice was still as calming to people as her bell was to her. Amalthea's green eyes sparkled as she saw the sun above the forest and just over the mountains behind. "Well, no use getting mad at it I suppose, I am from SeeD and this is a mission, I have no choice but to do my best!"
She was drawing closer and closer to the entrance to the cavern. No one was here, the cavern had been closed to everyone until the matter of these dissapearances had been delt with, so she had to deal with it as fast as she could so that the garden could carry on as it normally did, and exams were in another week. Amalthea started to walk inside the cavern, as she did a wind blew from somewhere inside the cavern, this made a moaning noise from inside. "This is one of the reasons I hate this place, it feels like souls have been lost here and want to be released." Walking into the cavern, the temperature rose increadiby quickly.
That rustling, that strange feeling of being watched? It came from being watched. By a boy, no less.
He dropped behind her, from the top of the cave opening. Sticking his tongue out, he blew a big cherry. "Hey there! You know, this place is supposed to be shut down until me an' my partner go huntin' through here for the missin' kid." His nose twitched a little bit, as he tilted his head. He couldn't remember ever seeing this girl before - but then again, he wasn't known for being the most attentive individual in the world, that much was for certain.
The other certainty was that he did have a weapon - what looked like a large spear with a gun's grip in the center. He winked a little bit at her.
"Unless you're Ama...lthrax...ian...lemon, you've got to go! I'm Asher." He nodded, gently, as though that much was supposed to be helpful.
And technically it was - he was a SeeD, and he had more seniority than a lot of other SeeDs by this point. 'A lot' being grossly defined as 'not much, but enough to tell some SeeDs what to do.' His tail wagged gently behind him, as he waited for some kind of dissent or unhappiness from the girl.
Asher was dressed cool today, knowing full and well where he was heading. He wore an unbuttoned vest, revealing a majority of the flesh beneath it, and his arms in total. He had a belt with several pockets on it that was looking as though it just barely kept his pants on him, though they were low-hanging enough to be considered 'lascivious' in some circles.
Not that he wore them for that reason, he was just comfortable.
Topping off his whole look was a simple pair of shoes, that looked old enough to be ridiculously comfortable, even if one had to stand all day.
"What's your name?" He asked, gently. "And are ya a student?" He added, just for good measure. After all, if it was a student, he could maybe put her in detention! He knew the inside of that room only so well - it was boring as all get out, and if everyone had to spend some time in there, maybe, just maybe, they'd outlaw it as a punishment for future generations!

Amalthea was a little suprised at the sudden appearance of her partner on this mission but had expected to see him around here somewhere, she actually thought that he had gone inside without her and trying to take credit for himself, but then again, she hadn't even heard of her partner before this. Amalthea gave a little smile when he tried to say her name, she thought it was a rather easy name to remember and say but then again, she had grown up with it. Judging by her partners appearance he was either prepared for the heat, or he loved to show off as much of his body as possible, either way, it didn't make much difference to her.
"My name is Amalthea, SeeD and your partner on this mission!" Amalthea said this as officially as she could, just incase he didn't believe her though she had brought her mission brief, reaching into her bag she pulled out her ID and the mission brief. "I'm sorry, I don't know your name, they never told me..." She figured that this boy wouldn't believe that but it was the truth, no one had told her her partners name, all they said was that he was a fellow SeeD. She had no expectations of him at that point, and right now she didn't know if she should take him seriously or not.
Amalthea held out her right hand, while keeping her bow in her left, she wanted to be polite to this person, she thought that it was better to make a good impression to begin with, specially seems they might be working together on future missions so it was important that they get on. "So, do you know what we will find in here other than fire based elemental monsters?" she was just asking to keep conversation going for awhile, she knew perfectly well what they would find in here and what they were hoping to find.
Amalthea brushed a lock of hair out of her face before looking back into the cavern, she heard the moaning noise again and it made her spine crawl whenever she heard it. She hated being in this cavern but she had to do this so she thought, the faster we get this done the better, I just hope that we don't have to carry the missing students out of here, I'm not much of a lifter and judging by the appearance of this guy, he isn't much of one either.
He wrinkled his nose a bit when she corrected him. If she didn't have such a weird, complicated, eight-hundred-syllable name, maybe he wouldn't have such a hard time with it! He looked a little glum after that, but otherwise was okay. Glumness never lasted more than maybe thirty seconds with him anyways - it was like the world's best case of ADD.
"I said I'm Asher, Amalgamex!" He said, with another serious nod, completely annihilating her name once more. No, he would probably never ever get it, no matter how hard he tried. That was just the way of the world, unfortunately. Flicking his tail to the side, he snatched the Spearshot from it, easily rotating it once or twice in the air, as if testing its weight, even though he knew it was perfectly balanced.
"There are BATS! Lots of them! ANd they turn you in to vampires if they bite you! I was a vampire once, but then I got better. I bit a moogle's pompom and then he smacked me. Turns out that's how you fix being a vampire." He gave her a very sage nod, and fluctuated on either heel as he did so. He was antsy to get started - he didn't want to leave those students alone in there, if they were actually in there.
"Don't worry though! I don't think you can be a vampire twice and all." He nodded once more, as though he was imparting invaluable words of wisdom upon her. He started past her, in to the cave proper, already feeling the familiar heat. "I got the Bomb spirit here, I've been in here before and it's stupid hot. You're not gonna like it much. I don't like it much. It makes my tail fur itch."
He let out a bit of a sigh, as he pressed forward, feet making almost no noise as he crept onward. "Normally I might be able to smell'em, but in here... the heat and stuff makes all the smells mess up. Everything just smells like sulfur and whatnot." He'd thought perhaps he could make it a little easier.
Pausing, he rounded on her. "Oh! By the way! I don't have any water magic, or healing magic, or nothin'. Do you? All I can do is slow."
Ayup. That's how you instill confidence in to a partner.

Amalthea felt a little annoyed that he couldn't get her name right even after she had just told him but she also found it kind of funny at the same time the stuff he was comming out with. She did have a very unusual name so it wasn't a suprise he couldn't say it but then again, he had a very unusual name too, at least for around here. When she told him about being a vampire she almost laughed at him but managed to restrain herself. She wasn't so fortunate when he told her the 'apparrent' solution to being cured of being a vampire. This guy is either stupid or is playing a joke. All of a sudden, Amalthea got the mental image of a bat with a mokey tail.
When he asked her if she had any water or cure magic, she replied, with a completely serious tone "I do have water magic, and I also have these!" she pulled out several spirit charms from her bag. She knew he wouldn't be able to understand what they were and why they would be useful but she knew the exact qualities and abilities of her spirit charms. Although, the main problem with her spirit charms was, to use them properly, she had to be able to touch what she was attaching them too.
Amalthea took another step into the cave and said "And don't underestimate your slow magic, it might be the thing that saves us for all we know." she was being honest but she doubted that they would be in so much trouble that it would 'save them' "Well, I think it's time we started looking for those students, if it turns out they just got lost, I am going to be really mad, I hate comming here!" Amalthea took a couple more steps into the heat and then turned back to look at her partner. "And by the way Asher, it doesn't matter what you call me so long as it isn't offencive." She gave a small smile as she said this. ____________________________________________________
She proclaimed ever-so proudly her water magic. That would be a big boon - he also thought it was the most useful element to know in the long run anyways - quick shower, anyone? But then, with even more gusto, she exclaimed that she had something else. He was practically wiggling with anticipation... then, she whipped out....
papers.
With ink.
Asher wasn't able to stop himself. He burst out into laughter, the kind that was both obnoxious and obvious that he was genuinely finding the subject matter hilarious. Not only did she dress weird, she proclaimed the power of paper. After only a few seconds more, he was looking up at her, now, from behind tears that threatened to blind him for minuted to come.
Between snorts and giggles, as his laughter died down, he exclaimed: "Noo! Not PAPER! We can threaten 'em with HOMEWORK!" which only forced Asher to break in to further laughter, completely and utterly blowing any composure he might have regained.
"Got 'yer pencils, too?" Which only made him howl with more laughter. As it stood, Asher wasn't a mean person by nature, he just had bad judgment on situations like this. Realizing that he was being mean, he worked to force himself to stop. He was shaking his head, trying to stand back up again.
"Sorry sorry sorry. I didn't..." Snort
"Just... sorry. I've never heard of someone fightin' with paper. Just... Another little giggle. "Sorry. I didn't mean to be so mean." Shaking his head, again, he let out an easy breath.
"Ammelma, I'll protect you in here. You don't have to worry 'bout anythin', alright?" He said, gently, finally having regained enough composure to stop the unnecessary, and probably offensive laughter. Sometimes he really couldn't help himself... there was nothing that could be done about it. He was just a silly monkey boy when push came to shove. Or at least, as far as he knew, he was.
Bouncing back a little bit - in a very literal bounce, he nodded. "Alright! Serious business time! We'll find those kids and be home in time for hotdogs! I'mma beat Zell to 'em this time!" He grinned, a wide-toothed grin that practically split his face in two.
With a turn, he added. "I'll get it right sometime, Amalthea! I just suck at names. Now... lets go!" [/blockquote][/blockquote] ( Word Count: 427 Thread Word Count: 1267 )
Amalthea was offended by the laughing but she put up with it, she knew very few people around here, if any other than her, would understand what the spirit charms could do, especially since she had learnt to use them properly against opponents and was studying how to use them against magic. Amalthea's face, without her wanting to, made her look like she was about to cry, she knew he wouldn't understand but to laugh at her THIS much... "These aren't just papers, they are spirit charms, my family have used them for generations against spirits and demons...I knew you wouldn't understand but if this is how you're going to act then you can stay here and I'll go investigate on my own!" she wouldn't really but with the way she felt she was extremely convincing with how she said it and even took a few angry steps into the cavern.
Amalthea stopped when she realised how extremely childish she was being and actually hit herself in the side of the head. She often did this as a punishment when she acted immature, even though Asher her, it was no excuse for her acting that way. Head lowered, she walked slowly into the cave with Asher close behind. Amalthea loaded an arrow into her bow and then started to charge up magical energies, just incase they suddenly got into a fight.
Amalthea was still upset with Asher but she was angry at herself, no matter what she shouldn't have snapped like that, she didn't even understand why she had felt so angry except that he had laughed at her that much for something that her family had been using for years to great effect. Up until a few weeks ago all she could do with spirit charms was dispel spirits and magic, although dispelling magic took a few hours depending on the strength of the spell it was against.
Seriously though, who laughs that much when someone else is being serious? She was walking with her head still lowered, she knew this was a bad idea but it was the best way to hide the hurt expression on her face, she didn't like to show weakness to people, they often just used it against her. Amalthea heard another few moaning noises deep within the cavern and a few other noises she didn't recognise. ___________________________________________________
