Youth. People said that it was prime, that it was wasted on the young. There had to be some truth to those words, of course...but it still irritated him. Why he thought of this now, of all times, was a puzzle to him. Perhaps it was because three individuals stood before him, smirking and scoffing at the worn handle on his gunblade, and the unrefined nature of his clothing, and his general lack of conversation. Perhaps it was because they were young, and fit. Or perhaps it was because they were bullies, picking on students constantly to settle some debt with their parents by torturing every student they could.
Most likely it was all three.
Regardless, these students werent foolish- they would never directly attack a SeeD member, especially the one wielding the Gunblade. He thought about taking the time to wipe the smirks off their faces...but in the end decided not to waste time on it. They would only report him, claiming that a SeeD student had attacked them without just cause, and since he had no solid evidence of thier bullying and troublemaking, he could do no more than any of the other SeeD who happened to be standing there glaring at the.
He stepped passed, walking through the halls with a purpose in his stride. Students moved aside for him quickly, having heard the summons to the Headmasters office. A mission, no doubt. He had been sending Squall out more and more as of late, exhausting him to the point of delirium. Luckily, he had given him a few days rest, and though he wasn't completely recovered just yet, he felt far better than he had before he slept. He stepped into the elevator, hitting the third floor button and waiting patiently for the doors to close.

Her feet slapped furiously against the parquet floor in Balamb Garden as she rushed into the main hallways, behind her was her ever faithful dog Angelo. Her shoulder length brown hair bounced off her shoulders as she looked around to see where the main elevators were, her mind was now awash with so many thoughts she didn't know where to start. Skidding to a stop just in front of one of the info boards Rinoa turned her head to see just up the stairs was the elevator, she was in half a mind to make Angelo stay but there was no time for that. Now sprinting Rinoa bolted for the elevator door with her arm outstretched.
"No keep it open!"
Lunging herself at the elevator Rinoa flung herself into the elevator with Angelo close behind her, just as Angelo made it through the doors shut. Rinoa banged her back against the elevator which in turn made her stand up right but also trying to catch her breath. Brushing aside a few strands of her hair she looked down to Angelo and petted him on his soft head. She then in turn looked to the man in the elevator with her, Rinoa's eyes glanced over his uniform and she instantly knew he was a SeeD. Of course this SeeD wouldn't know she had been in talks with Headmaster Cid for a few days and I suppose he didn't need to know if he wasn't involved.
"Sorry about that....I just have to get up to see Cid....oh I'm Rinoa and this is Angelo."
Squall slid to the side, piercing blues glancing over the figure who had barely made it into the elevator with him. He wondered inwardly at her meeting with Cid- was it for the same reason as his? Was it more trouble for the Garden? He kept his hands at his sides, staring into her eyes after she gave her name and the name of her dog. He didn't reply, instead slowly turning his gaze back to the elevator doors. A little ding sounded, signaling that they had arrived on the third floor. He glanced at her again before stepping out, the suit he wore feeling strangely uncomfortable. He hated wearing these things- but Cid asked they do so when reporting to him to show the students they were professional and in control. Still, he wanted it off- it itched, and was tight fitting. If he were to get into a battle right now, he wouldn't stand a chance.
He opened the office doors, stepping inside and glancing over his shoulder. He held the door open- mostly for Cid's respect then for hers. After she entered he would take a few steps forward and to the side, stiffing to attention with his hands clasped behind his back, his brown hair falling lightly down around his eyes. He watched the headmasters chair, waiting for some sort of reaction out of him, or for the girl to speak up. It was simple protocol for the business most important be done with, and he had a feeling that hers was more important than his.
What was her name again? Rinoa? And Angellica...or angelice...or something. He was curious as to what she was doing there...an attractive young girl could get hurt traveling alone.
'I did not just admit that she's attractive...I must be slipping.'
He turned his face forward once again, waiting for the political happening.

Huh...he didn't tell me his name...that's just rude
The elevator doors opened slowly to reveal the Headmaster's office, taking a brief look around Rinoa stepped out of the elevator with Angelo not far behind. Once the young man had left the elevator then shut its doors, Rinoa slowly made her way up towards the Headmaster's desk and stood by the young man. Angelo meanwhile hung back by the elevator and sat up straight, looking around Rinoa kept glancing back to the young man who had failed to tell her his name.
"Welcome Rinoa...Squall, I have you asked you both up here as in regards to Rinoa's request to Balamb Garden. Rinoa is the leader of the resistance group called the Timber Owls which are based in Timber, Squall you are to take along Zell and Selphie and assist Rinoa until the contract has been fulfilled. Rinoa I trust this is to your liking and that we have agreed on a suitable contract."
"Yes Headmaster Cid thank you very much for your assistance."
"Very well then it is settled unless you have anything else to say Squall?"
Squall's eyes immediately slid to the female again, his crisp gaze appraising her once more, a new-found respect gracing them. He had been thinking just what was told to him- that she was a client and he was soon to be the one whose help was enlisted. He gave a small incline of his head as he spoke.
"None currently, Headmaster, save one."
His voice was calm and collected, the scar across his face marring the handsome features yet adding to them. He sighed inwardly at the thought of taking Zell and Selphie anywhere with him- Zell being over-eccentric about his fighting capability and Selphie being over- eccentric about everything else. He wouldn't complain, however- the two of them were decent enough fighters, and capable. He turned his gaze back to the headmaster once again.
"When do i leave?"
He wanted to change, prepare, and perhaps get an extra nights sleep before taking off, though from the looks of things he was being ordered for immediate take off. Either way, he was gonna get out of this suit and into his clothes. His sword and supplies were prepared, though mentally he could admit he felt off. For one, he basically insulted a client earlier. For two, he was going to be working for said insulted client for the next several months. For three- he had never heard of the Timber Owls- how could a no name group with little money afford a group of three SeeD members? Even for a Specified time frame? He would wait for his reply before turning to the girl and placing a fist over his heart, bowing slightly. 'Try and make a better impression...things need to go along well with her.'
He never bothered to ask himself why...though he would definitely review that contract later.

"Well you may leave when you and Rinoa are ready, that is all. Once the contract is fulfilled you may return to Balamb Garden, Rinoa thank you for your interest in SeeD and I am happy we can assist you. You may both leave."
Headmaster Cid turned his chair around to face the window giving the added incentive to leave, the elevator doors opened and Angelo immediately walked inside waiting for his owner to enter. Rinoa nodded her head before quickly entering the elevator once more, once Squall have entered Rinoa took a deep sigh of relief.
"Well...Squall looks like we will be working together, I'm excited to see how this works out."
All of a sudden Rinoa latched onto Squall wrapping her arms around his neck hugging him quite tightly.
Squall took a deep breath, inhaling through his nose before giving a small bow, following after the female. He was still curious as to his mission, the purpose of the contract. And what about this girl? She was far harder to read then he gave her credit for. She had this...impatience about her, or perhaps innocence would be more appropriate. Either way, it confused him- she was old enough to request and afford a squad of SeeD members, and obviously had the trust of the headmaster...his eyes looked up to her figure, the male inside him causing his eyes to splay over her graceful shoulders and small, but nicely formed bottom. His face flashed red before he looked away, the girl just reaching the elevator as he did so.
He stepped inside, placing his hands in his pockets before looking over at her, deciding that his silence probably would do him no good here. He listened without the normal facial disinterest he was accustomed to giving, showing her nothing but a curious gaze to speak to. He again re-evaluated her after her statement- she was excited? Excited to see people die at his hands? What was she thinking, that this was a sort of game she had to win? There would be no reason for his hire if she didn't need warriors- and killing was nothing to celebrate. His thoughts continued to turn, but were momentarily interrupted when she threw her arms around his neck, hugging him. Her chest pressed against his softly, the smoothe, creamy feel of her arms and the rosey scent of her hair caused his eyes to go slightly wide. This was not something he was use to, and it made him pause for response or rebuttle.
His hands, when she slammed into him, hand come out of his pockets in shock, but now they were just a little open from his core in surprise- his face flushing as she let go- not in some lovestruck way, but in pure embarassment- again, this never happened to him, and so instead of a sharp reply or an aggravated word, he simply sputtered.
"Ah...wh...well..i..."
He cleared his throat, regaining his composure.
"Alright."
One word answers were a big thing with him...little did he know that this mission would likely change that forever.

The elevator doors slid open as Angelo bounded out wagging his tail happily waiting for Rinoa, taking a big stride forwards Rinoa then spun around to you her hands behind her back with her head half cocked to one side. An almost cheeky smile on her face she giggled while looking directly into your eyes, there was something about the way she moved and spoke that was so different to anyone else you had met. Angelo barked in the background trying to get his master's attention, this still wasn't enough as Rinoa kept her gaze onto you.
"Well I guess we both get our stuff....I mean if you want to stay here one more night you can. I heard there is going to be a SeeD ball on tonight..."
Was that her way of inviting you on a date? Nah definitely not she was just making small talk surely, but you couldn't help but wonder if there was something more in her eyes than just business. Giggling once more Rinoa then turned away for you to pet Angelo to satisfy his attention needs, Rinoa seemed to be very close to her dog which you could assume she was a huge animal lover.
"Anyways I better get my stuff sorted and I will see you tonight at the ball?"

Squall listened as she asked if he wanted to stay- the boy keeping his eyes directed on her face. It was a new experience to him- girls like her did not converse with Squall Leonhart. He shifted, looking away a moment before sighing. In truth, he WAS going to skip out on it, but after the notice sent out by the headmaster, he truthfully had no option. He would be attending the ball- albiet forcefully and not willingly. He hated dances and gatherings, people laughing and dancing. It only angered him- his own personal revelation on friendships and love. They were impossibilities, dreams left for sleep and not a reality based on fact, that fact being that all friends, no matter how close, would abandon you eventually- each and every one of them would learn that lesson the hard way.
Just like he had to.
Gave a nod to her, signaling his consent to both wait another night and attend this dance. He wondered what the point of her questioning him was- why did it matter to her if he was there or not? He was, technically, her official guardian and soldier now, so perhaps she just wanted to feel protected. He had no idea the parameters of his contract, and therefore could only assume one of two things- she wanted someone killed, or she needed to be gaurded. After having seen her rather bubbly and unpredictable personality, he only assumed it was the latter- people like her just dont hire assassins, not from what he had seen anyway.
He took his leave, readjusting the blade at his hip as he made his way to his room. He wanted these clothes off, and some relaxation time before he was made to attend that damnable dance.
