The air was calm, only a slight breeze that helped towards a tranquil atmosphere. Shining down, the sun warmed the area. Yet it wasn’t boiling hot, it was peaceful and almost perfect. That was what most would think of the weather, but not the only man that appeared to be out and about on that day. He was all wrapped up in a black coat that was zipped up at the front concealing the rest of his outfit except for his boots which stuck out of the base. Shadows covered his face cast by the large hood extending form the leather coat as he continued to look diagonally down before him.
The mysterious man walked with large strides, quickly paced and moving as if he had a purpose; he was definitely not just wandering – he knew exactly where he was going. His arms swayed with each step keeping to a rhythmic pace until he came round the edge of a mountain and stopped within visual range of the Fire Cavern’s mouth. There stood two people, one either side of the entrance with their arms folded over one another and hands slipped inside long sleeves. They were wearing red robes and a ridiculous looking hat. They must have been representatives of Balamb Garden, it wasn’t too far from here. I mean, why else would they be simply stood there if they weren’t associated with Garden?
Stepping off into another walk, the hooded man marched over to them. They stared as he approached, obviously not recognising him a student of Garden, possibly puzzled as to why he was coming here if he wasn’t under order of an Instructor for a Field Exam, nor did he have an Instructor with him like was required for such a test. Though, what they thought of the man was no concern of his; he couldn’t care less what they thought of him, or anyone else for that matter.
“I’m Nero.”
He said quietly with a sigh as he lifted his right hand up to the back of his head and pulled the hood down. Nero’s hair gleamed beautifully as it was released from the darkness, shining a bright white. His glowing eyes blinked a few times to adjust to the light shining on his face directly. Shifting his eyes from side to side, Nero glanced at the two of them.
“I’m here seeking the power of the Bomb that’s supposed to be here, move aside.”
Nero stated, rather than asking for permission to enter. His hand than drifted over to the handle of the large weapon on his back; it was a large sword that had an eerie black smoke surrounding the over-sized blade. His fingers wrapped around it tightly, gripping it ready. It was more of an indirect threat rather than actually preparing to attack the Garden Faculty members. However, he would strike if he had to. But, hopefully they would simply get the hint and step aside and allow him to do as he wished…

The fire cavern, warm ir seemed to just radiate from the area as the wind blew back in your face. It was a volcanic hotspot on this island and home to the bomb the summon creature that you now sought for its power. The two garden staff looked at you, then to each other. One whispered in the others ear, the contents of the conversion you could not hear. " Should we let him in?". The one on the left asked so diligently, the other replied " Why not?...besides if he turns up toasty they might think we arn't doing our job properly, and assign someone else to guard this hunk of rock....". They both nodded and then turned to you.
" If this is what your wish is...."
The one on the left replied to you. The one on the right stepped aside and swept his arm across the cave mouth. " Go right ahead....but be warned...the bomb is no monster to be trifled with". The two nodded in unison again. " Its a jerk....". One shrugged. " It blows up if you piss it off....it blows up if you make it laugh....it blows up if you summon it.....long story short...make sure you have some cover before it goes off...". The one who finished speaking leaned against the side of the cave mouth. " Its at the back of the cavern, near a large lava pool.....pretty hot in there so I'd take off any excess clothing...".
Nero glared at the two as they spoke to each other in private. What did they have to discuss? He was either allowed or not, it would either agree or disagree with Balamb Garden’s rules. Unless they were just making up the rules as they went a long. Either way, Nero was thinking of just barging past them while they were talking until one turned back to him with;
"If this is what your wish is...."
That was all he needed to know. Nero then strode forward and entered the Bomb’s lair without hesitation. And, without listening to what else the two had to say. He wasn’t here for a chat; he had a mission to do. In Nero’s mind, that was all that mattered at the time, their breath was wasted on him.
As Nero stepped inside, a rush of hot air swept across his face. This was quite possibly the warmest place he had ever been, no wonder it was called the Fire Cavern. Lava covered the base of cavern leaving a fairly thin walkway. It did split off at various points, though it was plain to see that they led to dead ends, ultimately, there was only one way to go. Nero set off down the walkway keeping a cautious eye out for monsters – there was absolutely no way that the Bomb he was seeking was the only monster in here, more would be around, even if they were hidden at first. It was only a matter of time before they popped out to attack the unwelcome guest.
“Anyone home…?”
Nero called out as continued on, his voiced echoing through the cavern. Obviously there was no response. Not in words anyway. Though, there was the distinct sound of flapping wings as Nero disturbed the peace. Looking up, he could swarms of bats on the caverns ceiling, all now waking due to their sensitivity to sound and flying off in various directions. But, they didn’t all fly away. A few of them were angry…
Three bats swooped down from the roof and flew towards Nero. And they weren’t just normal bats, they much bigger and were purple in color but with distinctive red wings. Nero grabbed his weapon as they drew near, pulling it over his shoulder and gripping with both hands in a battle ready position. He smacked the first aside with the side of his massive blade, swatting it like a fly, and followed with a powerful diagonal swing to tear through the second. Though, there wasn’t time to take out the third before it attacked. Nero pulled up his left arm to defend his face from attack. The creature scratched at his face, but ended up with it’s little claws tearing through his coat and scratching at the protective gauntlets beneath it. He couldn’t help but stumble back as the monster did so, the speed it hit him made him involuntarily fall back.
Nero managed to prevent himself from slamming into the ground with a nasty thud however, he curled himself into a ball so that he could roll back. Even so, the rocky ground made that uncomfortable. But, nonetheless, he didn’t let it bother him. He came to a stop in a crouched position and looked over his shoulder to see the Red Bat rise up and twist around in the air to come back at him again, this time with an open mouth. It didn’t get a chance to strike. Nero shot to his feet with a horizontal slice that obliterated the weak monster.
Now that a few of the lackeys were taken care of, it was time to hunt down the leader of the pack, so to speak. Nero kept his sword, Odium, in his hands as he entered a more relaxed state and continued on down the path. Though, he couldn’t help but laugh as he turned his head to see the bat he had smacked rather than sliced flapping around helplessly with a broken wing.
It seemed that the further Nero went, the hotter this place got. Maybe it really was getting hotter, or maybe that the longer he was in here the more the heat got to him. Even though he was now beginning to sweat a little with the temperature and quick exercise, he refused to remove his coat as he powered through the boiling atmosphere. It wasn’t long before he came to a room that must have been the right location, there was no where else to go. The path came to an end in a lava surrounded platform in the shape of a ring with more lava in the center and large spikes of solidified molten rock stuck out of the lava…

The heat was dry, which was partially a god send, it flowed off your skin, sindging, but at least it didn't cling there like damp heat. That would have been almost unbareable. As you approached the centre of the lava circle the lava itself begn to bubble. There was however no further activity. You had to wonder if the summoning creature was actually going to appear or not. There was a slight sound of stones dropping in the distance. A crumbling sound. Nothing that was out of the ordinary, covered up by the most by the sounds of the flames and moving of the molten rock on either side.
Suddenly however a larger rock dropped down by your foot, no more than the size of a fist. Thats when it would strike you. There was something on the roof. A large creature seemingly made of stone clung to the top of the fire cavern. It dropped down and then stopped floating in mid air. the rock that made it up stiff, it was like some kind of rough rock carving. Lava then began to move up into the air from the centre pool, rushing into and over the thing floating there. Eyes began to form as flames danced over the rock. It began to move, no more rock, but fire. This was the creature you had come to see. The bomb. It raised up its claw and a fire ball appeared there. It flung it down towards you...the battle begins.
Boss Battle VS Summon Creature: Bomb BGM: Raging Flames
Information: The bomb is a fire creature that has the tendency to grow bigger and explode as the battle goes on. For this reason the battle has the option of ending in one posting round. Or you can continue to drag it out. To defeat the bomb you must write a total of 1800 words. This can be done in a single round, or over a number of rounds. Take note however that as each round goes by the bomb will grow bigger. After 3 rounds the bomb has access to its self destruct technique. Which once used, ends the battle.
Nero observed the area very carefully, checking the bubbling lava at first; it appeared the most logical location for the Summon to be dwelling, or hiding. But nothing became of that. His eyes darted around the area, quickly checking every spot that had any sign of movement. It was all mostly deteriorating chunks of rock, crumbling away slowly. It was only when larger lumps of rock fell from above that he realised there was only one place he hadn’t looked - up. Nero’s head tilted back so that he could gaze up at some sort of rock monster suspended on the ceiling. Obviously, he didn’t recognise it as the Bomb at first, but it wasn’t long before it took it’s true form; a huge ball of flickering flames the floated in the air with an evil grin slapped across it’s round face.
Anyone could blatantly see that this was a fire elemental Summon, hence the warm climate and fiery appearance, and so fire attacks were expected. But, Bombs were also common monsters too. In fact, there were a few in Midgar, where Nero grew up. He had both seen and fought Bombs before, but none as strong as he knew this one would be. They were known for their tendency to explode in an attempt to kill itself and it’s opponent. Not exactly the best outcome. Though, Nero had something that he thought would help –Blizzard. Naturally, it would be the best spell of choice against this particular Summon.
However, the battle began with a simple fireball spell thrown in Nero’s direction. The sphere of heat energy sped through the air leaving a trail of flames in it’s wake, but it wasn’t quick enough. Nero wasn’t going to get hit by such an effortless attack. He leaned diagonally back and to his right, allowing the fiery globe to race over his shoulder and miss him entirely. He didn’t even look back to see it burst on impact with the ground not too far from him.
“Is that all you’ve got? C’mon, let’s get things going!”
Nero called at the living inferno before his very eyes. He wasn’t intimidated by this beast and wanted to get it angry. After all, rage leads to carelessness, and carelessness leads to mistakes. If he could get the Bomb angry, he would have the advantage. Now, it was time for a counter attack, one that the Bomb would probably not be expecting…
Taking short but speedy strides, Nero dashed to the side, running round a small portion of the ring that made up the current battle arena. Diving at the monster with a physical attack would be useless, getting close to that thing wasn’t the most intelligent idea and neither was leaping at it when it was hovering over a pool of deadly lava. So Nero headed for one of the spikes that surround the area and leaped towards it. He used it as a boost so that he could jump off of the side of that and get as much height as possible while keeping himself above solid ground.
Once he reached eye-level with the Bomb, Nero swung his sword, not once, but twice in succession. Though, these weren’t physical attacks, he wasn’t close enough for that. The dark aura that surrounded his massive blade thickened with each swing and shot forward off of the metal. Each stroke of Odium was diagonal, one from left to right and the other from right to left, forming a cross of hardened darkness that powered through the air towards the Summon. He was saving his Blizzard spell for as a surprise. This was one of Nero’s signature attacks, Dark Blade. Perhaps the Bomb would evade, maybe not, but either way, it was worth a try. And if nothing else, it would show the monster exactly what he was dealing with – a man who knew what he was doing…

The bomb at first seemed unimpressed at your attempts to mock it merely bobbing up and down as it floated above the ground. But when you attacked it, sending it flying backwards into the pit of lava. Thats when it seemed to get mad. At first you would have thought that it had brought some of the lava onto it. But now you saw that as each second passed the bomb was growing slightly larger. After 10 seconds it stopped growing and had seemingly doubled in size.
There wasn't much else to it as the bomb lundged forwards tackling you in the chest, the flames would burn and the attack itself would leave a hurt on you. But it would far be the end of the battle. The bomb streched out both of its firey appendges summoning balls of fire which danced within its palms. It then threw these balls of flame towards you. If they hit they would deal great damage. If not, then they would have churned the earth you stood on like land mines. Either way this battle wasn't going to be as easy as any other battle against a bomb would be.
The initial attack had struck its target, knocking the Bomb away for a second. But when it came flying back, the Bomb had grown to a much larger scale. Nero wasn’t expecting any less though; normal Bomb’s grow over time before exploding when they reached maximum size, why would this one be any different from the others? Other than it’s strength and overall power, it was no different to the common Bomb in nature. Nero knew that he would have to defeat it particularly quickly or suffer the consequences of the Summon’s Self-Destruct technique. And that wasn’t a fate that Nero much liked the thought of.
Suddenly, the Bomb was already attacking. It flew directly into Nero, knocking him off his feet and leaving him with no choice but to slam to the ground. He coughed a few times as he sat up, lost for breath. The sudden blow had knocked the wind out of him. Yet, he remained fairly calm. Until he realised that his trench coat was on fire! He whipped it off as quickly as possible and tossed it aside. Nero would have to get another - even if he put it out, it wouldn’t really have the same look with the burns. Though, with the coat removed, it soon became apparent as to why it was only the coat that was on fire. Beneath it, he wore a Tactical Vest that was fire resistant; it saved him from burns to his chest, but the physical hit still caused some pain. It wasn’t luck though, he came prepared with that vest; he nearly always wears it. Not always for fire either – it protected him from freezes and such too.
Nero obviously wasn’t planning on staying on the floor where he was though, even with his current chest pains. He leaned back so that his weight was over his shoulders and put his hands flat on the ground beside his head and used them to spring himself back to his feet. As the Bomb created another two fireballs, Nero accelerated into a run straight towards the fiery monster, dragging his large weapon behind him. He was prepared for the attack, already planning ahead. The Bomb would have to try something new if it was going to hit him again. Nero wasn’t going to get hit by simple fireball spells. As the Summon pulled it’s blazing hand back to throw, the human dashed aside and the jumped diagonally with a twisting flip through the air. This allowed him to closely evade the flickering flames that flew in his direction.
Once he landed back on his feet, Nero allowed his right arm drop to his side with his weapon, whilst is off-hand raised up, out-stretched. Sparkles of cool ice shards surrounded his open palm as magic casting was completed within a fraction of a second. A large cocoon of ice formed above the Bomb, ready to fall and shatter on the fiery monster. Although first level, being fire elemental, this Blizzard spell was planned especially to be a strong attack. Presuming the Bomb didn’t realise what Nero was doing to soon…

Unfortunatly ( in the case of the bomb) it had not spotted your ice based attack, and was caught completely unawares as the large block of ice slammed directly into it from above, this spell had knocked out the bomb for a moment leaving it lying on the ground. However it didn't take long for the the flames that had made up its eyes to be rekindled and lit up now burning with a new fury for its own embarassment at your hands. Its two large clawed hands gripped together...
Slowly and steadily the flames that made up the bomb began to burn brighter and brighter. The bomb itself grew in size, like a balloon being inflated with gas. Soon it would be large enough to unleash its devistating self destruct attack. But at the same time, you could see that despite this new strength, the bomb had begun to wobble as it floated....it was weakening. Hopefully you'd be able to defeat it before it took you with it.
Yes! A beautiful strike with the chilling Blizzard spell. The mad Bomb had no idea what was going, not until it was too late anyway. The ice smacked onto the top of the fiery monster’s head with a thud and shattered into hundreds of little pieces that dropped around the beast, each hitting the floor with a delicate ting. Though, these shards of ice were not going to stay there long, they had already formed a small puddle of water. The immense heat was melting it at an extraordinary rate – it had the same effect as you might imagine putting ice in a microwave oven would have.
Nero was glad that the spell had hit, yet, he didn’t really show it. He was too busy plotting his next move. A move that, if performed up to expectations, could finish the Summon off. Or leave it seriously injured – either would do. While the Bomb was growing exponentially in size, surely it would be easy to land an attack; the thing was too focused on increasing it’s overall volume rather than on the foe right in front of it. That was what Nero thought, but it was only a matter of time before he found out if that were to be true or not…
It was time to show this the power of a SOLDIER operative. Although no longer a part of the Shin-Ra Electric Power Company, there was no way Nero could forget those times. After all, there was one thing that they did to him that he couldn’t thank them enough for; something they called the SOLDIER treatment. This was a mandatory treatment where they infused the body with Mako energy to increase overall fitness and strength. A very useful treatment, one that left all members of SOLDIER with an advantage over regular fighters. What more could a power-hungry swordsman want? It was that treatment that allows him to wield his huge weapon with such ease. Nero wouldn’t be the same without it.
Back to the battle at hand, Nero pulled his right arm across to his left side, bringing his large sword over ready for a back-hand swing as he pushed off the balls of his feet to take a few more steps towards the Bomb. As he got closer, Nero swung the weapon back across his body with one hand as he leaped up. He wasn’t quite in range to strike the Bomb just yet; it was another usage of his Dark Blade technique. A singular ‘beam’ of solidified darkness fired form the large blade and sped forward, forcefully pushing through the air. It wasn’t aimed for the Summon’s face this time, but the very bottom of it’s spherical form. This way, if it hit, the Bomb would simply spin rather than be knocked back. But, if it saw the attack coming, would float up a little. Floating right up into another attack.
Nero knew what he was doing. It was all planned out. After he had done that first swing, he continued soaring through the air with his huge jump, going diagonally up whilst pulling Odium up above his head. Hopefully, the Bomb would be spinning in place or flying up as Nero fell back down with an incredible vertical attack letting gravity do most of the work. He swung his sword down as he fell, in hopes of slicing the Bomb in two. That was the best outcome that could occur, but things don’t always go as planned, do they…?

Boss Defeated! Rewards: Bomb Summoning + 200 bonus experience
The bomb fell to the ground defeated after your last attack, the flames on the body of the bomb began to die out, and once more it was nothing more than solid rock. Was this it? You didn't feel any different...had you failed to get the summoning? Suddenly you saw a glint in the eye of the statue, and it exploded sending you flying backwards. Flames lept up from the shattered remains of the rock bomb and shot right at you. However instead of burning you. They flowed into you....there was a warm feeling in your chest.
Bomb Summoning Obtained!
Indeed, the power of the bomb was now yours to wield and summon as you saw fit. A voice echoed inside your mind. " You've proven yourself fun to play with....I'll blow your enemies to peices....". The voice of the bomb no doubt confirming your victory. Just then the two men who had been standing at the entrance rushed in. " We heard an explosion, we thought you'd lost to the bomb....but by the looks of things we underestimated you...". The two men nodded at the same time.
A satisfied grin swept onto his feet as he landed in a crouched position back on the floor after his attack. Nero slowly stood back up; and it was then that a feeling of fiery warmth filled his body. He let out a small sigh of relief as he now knew this battle was over and he emerged victorious. Hearing someone behind him, Nero turned his head so that he could look over his shoulder at the two who were previously stood outside.
“Hmph… I don’t lose.”
Nero stated in response. He then lifted his sword and put it back in its usual spot - on his back. With that, the victor paced towards the Garden Faculty members and slipped between them. He flipped his hood back up over his head and headed back for the entrance. But, just before leaving the Bomb’s dwelling, he stopped. Silent for a few seconds, but then spoke to the two without turning back to look at them.
“You work for Garden, right? How many more Summons do you have?”
He asked, curious as to what else the Balamb Garden Students have access too. Surely this Bomb wouldn’t be the only Summon available to them. Nero had heard rumours of a dark summon kept in a lamp. But he wanted to hear it from them…

" Ha, you hear that? the guy thinks we're going to tell him what other summonings we got under our belt". The two began to laugh in a rather mocking way that would probably get under your skin after awhile. " Whoo boy....let me tell you thats a good one....let me ask you a question, just what sort of military organisation do you think we are? Do you see the Galbadians handing out the launch codes to their missiles? Do you see Shinra giving away the secret of mako technology? Hell no, so then why do you think we should just hand out the secret of our summons?". The other one nodded in agreement.
" Sorry, its priviledged Garden information"
The first nodded again, rather like a bobble head. " Yeah, you want to get those secrets theres only two ways you can go about it...". He lifted his hand and raised his index finger. " 1, you go to Garden....enlist as a pupil and train to be a seed....however looking at your age...I don't know if your under the gap.....". He shrugged. " Then the second option.....go straight to Headmaster Cid yourself, present your case and see if he thinks your trust worthy enough to give the locations away". This time the other shook his head. " He's a fair man...but you got a hill to climb thats for sure".
Their laughing was irritating, but Nero tried not to let it get to him. Mocking didn't seem to affect him much these days, it took quite a lot to even get him angry or aggitated. So, he just simply shrugged it off and shook his head at what they had to say, keeping his eyes ahead of him.
"Ha, ha, ha."
Nero burst out in a small laugh to himself, keeping it quiet but the two could still probably hear him anyway. He just thought it was funny that they thought that they could give him options to choose from - there was always another way. No matter what the problem, there were always multiple paths one could take to reach the same goal.
"What about option three...?"
He said as he took a step forward, now continuing his leave. Nero turned his head as he left, allowing his voice to trail through the cavern back to the Garden Faculty;
"I come back later and take what I want by force..."
