Personality:
Childish; although to be fair at the start of it all, Rydia had lost everything. Strip a child of parents, a home and trust, of course their natural response is rage, granted, a mask for fear and longing for what would be missed. But still, that was what she felt, and, for a long time it was the hardest hurtle to overcome. Anger towards the pair that took her mother away from her, a hatred rooted in the very flames that burnt her sanctuary to the ground: Cecil and Kain.
Yet, it was an immature sort of hatred. Undeveloped, not-full-understood, for, the people she traveled had taken everything from her, but were protecting her. For awhile a barrier stood erect among her thoughts, and, she did not want to understand, only wanted to hate them; so shouted those words: leave me alone, I hate you. And, even when she wasn't declaring such to be so, she was thinking it all-the-while being dragged along with him.
As strong as her emotions may have been however, there were dispelled overtime through simple kindness and affection. She opened up first in a small way in given him her name, but, as she was sheltered more she began to relax. Fears she had were pushed aside as their party akin to them grew, and, in turn began to treat her as one of them, instead of someone that merely needed protection. She decided she would no longer cry, that she had to be strong.
Still it was not until their path was barred by ice that she had to come to terms with what had happened. Behind it all, the hatred, the happiness, the confidence hid what trauma remained from the fire that still burned in her dreams. Fear and hate, she refused to even admit she had control over it. However, when she did the praise she received from her peers negated what she had seen in Mist. In a way this was the first step towards true recovery. The last of which came from the loss of her current friends.
In the realm of Eidolons, time flows differently. She grew up there after being swallowed by Leviathan setting aside her feelings towards her own past, and, instead focusing on what had to be done in order to save her own reality – her world. After being told of the threat, she decided to return and do anything in order to stop the onset of destruction. And, ever since her driving attitude has been to set the greater good above even her own personal feelings. It allowed her to form deep connections and bonds with those she grew to trust, and, a new found love for the village she had once seen destroyed.
More mature, perhaps now, but still quite different from others as she was raised by those that were not of her own kind in isolation from those whom were human. She understands threats and the danger that comes along with them, and, confronts them with a witty sense of determination. Although serious in heightened situations, willful and direct, she has also developed a dry humor that can only be appreciated by satirists.
Yet, behind-all-that, and, that smirking smile, is a person that truly cares about those around her. She may deflect those feelings at times, or pretend they don't exist at all, however, something in the very core of her being cannot deny the pain that comes along with the chaos that leads only death and destruction.
When she has to, she will stand by those whom would prefer to be oppressed rather than face death at the hands of their oppressors, whether they like it or not. It is in the truth of her nature to be fierce, direct, demanding just as much as it is the truth that at the end of the day, she wants to be strong not for herself, but, for others that surround her. She'll stifle her own feelings if it protects, but, sometimes it is impossible not to think of the worst possible outcome, and, think on how easily everything could be lost. Once such thoughts pass, she is better for them able to turn the negative into the positive and at times, even laugh about it.

HISTORY:
Born in the Village of the Mist, Rydia, fostered a deep bond with its people and Eidolon's in a few short years. As a summoner herself, her mother played a brief role in that, since she served as Mist's protector along with her guardian Eidolon: the Mist Dragon whom kept the village safe from any outsiders. And mostly, Rydia lived a rather pleasant childhood, up until her seventh year when her world was snatched from her.
Under orders of the King of Baron, the dark-knights Cecil and Kain infiltrated Mist, first killing the Mist Dragon in order to gain entry. Although unaware at the time, they would later learn that by killing a summoner's eidolon they had also killed the summoner, and, in this case that summoner happened to by Rydia's mother. She watched her own mother die that day, and, thereafter saw the Village of Mist burn to the ground at the hands of the two dark-knights.
In a fit of rage upon seeing the harbringer's of her home's destruction, she summoned Titan; an Eidolon of immense strength whom sent out an earthquake all around with his mighty fists. Even though the pair had offered to help her, she refused considering the fact that the men that killed her mother could not be trusted. However, given her current mental state she was unable to fully control her Eidoln and in turn was injured by it, collapsing and losing consciousness shortly after it was called. By the time she awoke, she had been brought to safety by the very men she had sought to kill earlier.
He had wanted to know of her name, but, Rydia remained silent, only quietly learning that the man whom had brought destruction was named: Cecil. She hated him for that, and, in turn hated Kain his companion as well. Yet, when he chose to save her, to protect and shelter her, her hatred of him began to falter. There was something she simply could not understand. At one point, she had been his enemy, and, now he wished to protect her? Although that was not enough to completely win her over, she offered him her name.
So she went with him, if only out of curiosity, and, that ever present fear of being alone. Together they journeyed for a time and stumbled upon his childhood friend: Rosa, whom had after the destruction of Mist went out looking for him, not in the name of the King, but, for herself before the King's men could find him (again). However, she had fallen ill with a desert fever that could only be cured by something known as a Sand Pearl. In order to save her, the pair went to the home of the crystal of fire to find the cure.
As fate would have it, their luck continued to sour, for the Red Wings – the elite paramilitary group of the Baron – invaded the principality on the day they arrived. With the help of the Sage Tellah, they were able to save the crown prince, the only survivor of the attack, Edward whom they convince to help them find a Sand Pearl.
Before Tellah departs, he inquires about the man behind the majority of the attack: Golbez, and, through tears Edward tells that he had been searching for their crystal. At this point, Rydia whom could relate to his loss, instead in a mixture of remembered pain and sadness asks him if he is a man, and, says to stop crying. Since she had been able to as a little girl, she figured he would have to as well. He had lost loved ones, but, so had she and she was not crying. Together they retrieved the Sand Pearl from the Antlion Cave and cured Rosa.
In departing for Fabul, their journey takes them up the crescent mountain of Hobs. Their passage barred by the way of ice, Rydia whom learned to both fear and hate fire from what she saw in Mist, refused to cast a basic spell that Rosa claimed all summoner's must know. She screamed that she hated it: fire, and, that she wouldn't melt the ice for them. However, with constant encouragement, she eventually overcame her fear and was able to cast the spell much to their advantage, and, unlock the path that first had been blocked to them.
She fought with them during the Siege of Fabul, using white magic in collaboration with Rosa to heal the injured. Yet such were only delaying tactics at best, for Cecil, Edward and Yang are cornered in the Crystal's chambers by Kain. Rushing to join the battle, Rosa and Rydia take up arms, but, are instead met by Golbez. She is forced to hide, only able to watch as he overpowers them, and kidnaps Rosa. Thereafter, he orders Kain to take the Crystal as well before he departs.
From there, their path becomes less clear. They wish to rescue Rosa, but, are unable to find an efficient means to do so, and, in turn take the sea aboard a ship provided by the King of Fabul. They take the longer route to Baron in hopes of avoiding further loss of life on their behalf, and, to avoid detection as well. But, they are prevented by the Eidolon Leviathan whom attacks their ship in the midst of the sea. Here, Rydia is blow overboard and swallowed by the Eidolon. Presumed dead by the others, she is actually taken the Feymarch, the realm of Eidolons' and is raised there by Asura and Levithan whom take her in as their daughter.
Since time passes differently in the separate dimensions, Rydia ages years while being apart from her companions for only a couple days. During this time she hones her black magic, essentially losing whatever gifts she once bore in the healing arts and becomes more of a destructive force. At first, she assumed that the affairs of her friends had long since been taken care of, years had passed after all right? Rosa must have been saved, Baron must have been defeated as well as Golbez. However she was informed that only a few days had past for them, while years had passed for her. Golbez still threatened the world with his ploy, and, she had to return to help.
Yet something had drastically changed, for, traversing the void between one realm and another is not an exact science, instead of returning to her when and where, she was brought back to a world where others had collided forming separate continents with their various peoples, religions, politics and kingdoms. This new world is called Gaia, or, so she learned rather swiftly. Even though the crossing had changed her own past, she took relish in the fact that her home may not have burned down here, in fact her mother may be alive and with a new daughter. That thought alone was enough for her to start over, and, so she wanders . . . exploring a new world: Gaia.
Roleplay Sample:
In the forest, a rider made chase; following a shadowy visage along the brook that parted between an immense thicket. She reared back on the reins, and, turned as an arrow pattered and stuck into the bark of one tree. "After her," a voice beckoned in the dark, "don't let her escape!"
Then, she was gone, chocobo leaping into the darkness that the canopy of leaves, twigs and branches provided, whilst, the moon above disappeared behind a smoky ring of clouds. From it, they parted in segments, paving way for the gales that churned, and, tore off leaves reflecting streaks of electricity as they bolted across the sky; the heavens quaked with their resurgence, bellowing thunder deep and droll, matched with the crackling of a furled whip and its flash of blinding light.
Those padded feet passed by in an instant, stepping nimbly over a tossed log here, a thorn bush there, and, even a stretch of water over there. It called back to its rider turning head briefly to look upon her face. Both harsh and determined, Rydia rode her mount low, her knees dug in at its sides, her green hair flowing wildly, like a mess of the storm to come, and, her hands gripping tight on the reins. She gawked; she gasped as a bolt struck a tree casting it into burning cinders, only to be put out by the rain that now poured piercing her skin with its tiny cool droplets. Sizzling, the flames died away fading into her peripheral vision.
“They are certainly persistent,” she said aloud, swerving to the right to avoid another grouping of trees. “I'll give 'em that.” As she spoke fire twinkled in her hand, shading her face in a pale orange lighted hue. Conversely, the rain pitter-pattered against it. Tiny specks for each droplet passed through the flames splitting them apart. From behind, the rush of steps echoed on dimly droned out by a crash of thunder. Not that it hid their shadows three. While two leapt from tree to tree, the third sprinted between them darted to and fro and ducking beneath the onset of foliage around.
“She's stopped,” one said to the other, “look she has left herself open.” He crept up a tree as nimbly as any furry four-legged critter would, and, he strung his bow feathering an arrow. Two others peered from around their tree-ridden vantages, tilting their heads back and forth. Meters beyond, through the excess of branch, bush and plant-life, the chocobo rested amounted by Rydia.
“That's right,” she muttered, “don't be shy.” The first crossed the threshold quickly, weaving from one tree unto the next he loosed his arrow strung another and spun into cover. No doubt he expected immediate retaliation. He would receive it in turn, but, the armament that had been slung, tattered off course from the gusting of a worsening storm and hailed far wide to its intended target. Pellet like drops blew all around covering their advancing strides and in turn blinding all in a veil of streaming water.
“Sir,” a soldier cupped his hands across his mouth, “The storm is thickening we should leave her be until dawn.” Perfectly reasonable given the bellowing of thunder he had to speak over. Yet the one higher up shook his head defiantly. They had come this far, and, his orders were to apprehended the target at any cost. He would be damned if they would return empty-handed after chasing this so-called-caller across half of the forest to turn back after nearly being upon her.
“Take aim,” he replied back. If anything else, they would see her down from her mount. Two sets of of strings tightened loosening back and thereafter flailing into a taunt locked position. From the weight of the hands that strung them the wood waned being strained to almost the limit, while, the two feathered arrows quivered awaiting their command. The regiment leader gave them a silent gesturing signal unto which came the nods of his two remaining men.
It would not be fast enough. Rydia smirked digging down into her chocobo tightly and gently stroking his feathers. “Easy now,” she whispered, “this is going be a bit rough.” The mount looked up made a tiny call that seemed to be in the positive and then fell silent. “Okay,” her voice picked up, loud enough to be overheard by the men whom would nearly freeze in place just meters behind. “Titan,” she shouted slinging her arm back and channeling a rush of energy into the ground beneath her adversaries. “Unleash your wrath!”
For a moment, dead silence . . . thereafter, anything but that. Dirt sprung into the air shoved out amongst flying rubble, splitting twigs, branches and swaying leaves. A red enigma of almost pure stone arose from the quake jumping and slamming his feet hard into that which had split open the dimensions into his own. The resounding blast brought down trees tossed men about into other ones (trees), and, eclipsed the vanishing of a chocobo that ran as fast as his legs could manage leaving his rider behind to lean lightly against a partially splintered tree.
Rydia folded her arms across her chest not even bothering to check the scene in time to see the Eidolon of stone vanish back down into the quivering crest whence he came. Her foes were not dead, she had not wanted that, but, would be waking up with some severe back pain. Effectively the earthen shock wave had knocked them out cold. Of course that had not been the case, a few meters off someone moaned still awake and quite obviously in pain.
“Did you ever think on why?”
“W-why what?”
The summoner smirked hidden from view and behind the cover of battered bark. “Never mind. It's not important.” She shrugged off the splinters of bark allowing them to fall loosely about and off her green attire. Then, she sighed.
All that build-up for this . . . but as she stepped freely away she turned back once. “Next time wonder why fire that has been conjured by an enemy does not burn.” Cryptic enough, but, maybe he would figure it out by the time his friends awakened. Either way, she would not be sticking around long-enough to find out. By the time they were at strength again she intended to be far away from here, deeper, ever so deeper in the forest canopy.
