Now, I understand I am a newbie, however, as a Native race player and a 10 year veteran of RPing, I have a question/observation/suggestion.
As it is, it seems Natives have the weakest species skill, specially when it comes to combat. Yet, in the games we see that most (if not all native species) have a slight edge in one racial trait or another. I'll cite those I am currently most familiar with: Burmecians, Guados, Ronso, and Viera, starting with Burmecians.
Those who are familiar with FFIX, know the Burmecians like Freya, Puck, Fratley, etc.. Despite them being somewhat rat/jackal like, they also appear to exhibit a natural affinity for jumping. it could be said that this is because Freya/Fratley can do it because they are Dragoons but you also see Puck, a child, also able to do this to as well. So this leaves me wondering, why can't native species be given one racial trait to balance them out for combat. So for Burmecian's, perhaps they can use that jumping ability to avoid 1 attack per thread, or something along those lines. Let's look at Vieras now.
Vieras are rabbit like humanoids that have increased sense of smell and hearing, as well as... "other assets". Therefore what if they, using those heightened senses, are given an initiative bonus at the start of a combat phase due to the fact they would detect the enemy before others would?
Now the Ronsos; they're big, they're furry, they're blue, and most importantly, they're strong. They're known for possessing this great strength, pride, loyalty, etc... It would make sense then that their strength would play into their physical combat ability, granting them a bonus to their physical attack power or defense against physical attacks - greater ability to absorb physical damage and such.
The Guados... well now that I think about it I'm not really sure what their specialty is other then perhaps a strong magical connection, specially in regards to the Farplane.
But the point is, can these racial traits be used during roleplaying as a viable ability. They are cannon, and in my humble opinion, can bring them up to par with other races especially early in their RPing life. Of course the racial traits recommendations are entirely my own and if it is decided to add this feature it would require further thought and depth to make sure its balanced. So, in closing, it is just an observation of mine over the last few days to help make the Native class more appealing (from what I understand, it is a rarely used race class).
Well, the traits you've listed are things that aren't really considered within our RP guidelines. For example, how high you can jump? That is entirely up to the RPer. For example, I said in one of my earlier threads that Sirxeko can see better in the dark than most humans can. And in fact, most Lucavi on the site actually have the ability of flight.
Those small traits are firstly, generalizations, and honestly, if you were to apply them to real life, that'd be racist. White guys can't jump? Blue guys are all super strong? Green guys are all magic using nerds? RACIST! In addition to the racism, it also doesn't matter. Those small traits aren't exactly helpful in combat. Flight is a trait that can easily be overcome, as is high jumps, and super strength. And all of these traits are determined by the RPer. If I wanted to make a Ronso Magician, I could. If I wanted to make a Bodybuilding Seeq, I could. If I wanted to make a male Viera, I could do that. It makes no difference to the battle system itself, and therefore doesn't require us to specify those traits.
However, you do have a point regarding their species skill, and as I recall I made a similar suggestion regarding the Martial Artist Class. The Martial Artist's bonus doesn't come into effect until later, while all other Classes are beneficial either at creation, or throughout the RP. I personally have no qualms with the NativeRace, though I can see why people might. I, for one, say come up with a better alternative, and then we may consider it, but then again, I don't run this place, and Malice may like the Natives just how they are... -shrug-
Heh, I do like how this caused the race card to be played, and no, I wouldn't call it racism at all (I've been the victim of racism first hand, this isn't racism). If one were to claim that it would be racism, then to say different species of dog, for instance, which exhibit different traits based on their breed is in of itself racist to acknowledge - though you wouldn't have a Pomeranian herd sheep, now would you? There is of course always exceptions to the norm, but different creatures do indeed have different specialties. Humans have the most running stamina of any animal, but we're not as fast as a cheetah or have the jaw strength of a hyena no matter what their genetic disposition is. Also, by your definition, the fact that any of the different races have different racial traits is, in itself, racist. Why should humans get a 10% discount, is that humans trying to keep the rest of the races down in their ability to trade for abilities at a fair price! But back on topic.
I just was pondering if there was a way to make Native races have a more useful purpose, aside from just adding some variety to the board. The 1exp per 6 words is nice but then again, its a gamble that you'll end up posting regularly in your region. You may never post there and thus, the ability is pointless. Of course, I have yet to experience combat here so I'm not 100% how it plays out, merely going by my experience elsewhere, so the idea of using racial traits that can be accepted as viable tactics seemed a reasonable idea. Like I said, the ability to avoid one attack, have first strike, etc...
Just throwing it out there.
"Me, I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to look out for."
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD IT IS TO BE NATIVE AMERICAN?!? I get tormented everyday! Teased because of my bright blue eyes and pale skin. It's just NOT RIGHT!
Well, I suppose it's better than my canibalistic, corn growing, white-man fearing, action movie star geneology.
"All bea Boche"
Mine definitely sounds more fun, its got stout and explosives. Two of the greatest things ever invented by man, with the possible exception of tequila and handguns

Unfortunatly I don't think we'll be taking it on and for one main reason. All the racial traits you listed there count each species as a seperate race, thus elliminating the need for the native catagory. Now personally I thought in the long run an experience bonus would actually be more useful to the Natives than any other race. Simply because rping in their home continent would provide them with what is pretty much a double experience bonus.
Which would mean they're able to grab combat abilities and such much faster if they hold their first thread within their home land
However I will say that most of what you brought up can be applied to the rp easily. I mean jumping as a trait, well if Burmacians wanted to make the ability jump as an attack theres nothing stopping them from making a combat ability. Outside of battle, it wouldn't even require the combat ability, as it goes without saying they're good jumpers.
As it is the racial catagory of Natives was put down to save the Admins a lot of time, as we know theres a huge and diverse list of species spanning the entire game, and having to list these all would take forever. Not to mention clutter up the race page.
True, and I was thinking that myself, about possibly making too many categories (or sub-categories for that matter). Glad that is out of the way then.
And I do see how it could be extremely valuable in the long run, if you happen to choose a popular RPing spot as a starting location. From my experience with FF based RP boards is that the worlds of 7,8, and 10 get used the most so someone who enjoys the simple pleasures of 9 may be out of luck during storylines or general RP not initiated by myself or others from the less played regions. That was my biggest concern, seeing how few threads there appeared in Lindblum and some of the other places. Also, such places as speed rping where that bonus is negated entirely.
So in closing, I'll shut my trap and go shock things.
