You alone stand upon a strange arena, empty and somehow without end but yet still round, the floor is a cold blue stone with a strange pattern carved into it that continues for as far as you can see. Above you is the sky, or what you feel is the sky it is a large black emptiness with no light flowing from it, the light itself seemingly emerging from each of you. The Arena is empty besides you and you must feel slightly confused by this place and your sudden arrival
"Welcome Sorceress Hunter and welcome to the Void Beyond."
An unfamiliar voice comes from behind you and as you turn around you are greeted by a tall figure in armour who continues to talk to you, explaining why you are here.
"You are here to test your might against some of the fiends of fate in a desperate battle for valor and fortune. Do not worry about death, Death has no domain here, defeat only ends your time here and not your life. Once this battle is over you shall not recall this event nor this place so fight and show me the will that seeks Hynes beloved daughters."
With that the armoured man vanishes and infront of you a pillar of fire rises from the ground into the sky firing a round object high into the sky which drops down right infront of you the object to be a large ball of fire, a Bomb, a dangerous monster from many places across Gaia.
Event Battle I: Bomb Event Theme: Battle on the Big Bridge. Battlefield: The Void Beyond - Do not heal between Battles.
Lorenzo’s eyes opened, as he awoke with a jolt. He would have sprung up out of bed, had he been in his bed. However, much to his own surprise, he was not in his bed. Or in any bed at all, for that matter. Rather, he was standing upright, with no recollection of how he had gotten there. This sudden realization naturally caused him to lose his balance, stumbling forward. Instinctively, he thrust his spear forward, ramming the butt of it into the ground to catch his fall. Wait… his spear…? He did not normally sleep with his spear. He had tried to once, while camping in a particularly dangerous cave, but he tends to toss and turn in his sleep, and having a big and pointy weapon near him while he’s rolling around is really not a good idea, he learned the hard way. So why on Gaia did he have the Miraculous with him now? This realization led him to the third realization in as many seconds; he was also fully clothed. He slept clothed while out and about, camping, exploring, adventuring, and whatnot. But not when he is home. When at home, or in an inn, he sleeps in an extremely comfortable, if somewhat old fashioned, night shirt. Yet here he stood, armed and armored.
Curiosity and panic were fighting each other for domain over Lorenzo’s mind, as he turned to examine his surroundings. As he turned, a voice reached his ears; and the figure of an armored man appeared in front of him. At least he thought it was a man, judging from the voice. Though, it could have been a woman, a deity, a spirit, or an illusion. Or all of the above. Lorenzo knew better than to assume. Though there was a pull at the back of Lorenzo’s mind, and he couldn’t help but feel as though the nature of this armored thing was not nearly as important as the nature of the location itself. Fortunately, when the thing spoke, it spoke of their current location, shedding some light onto his current predicament. Apparently he was in what was referred to as The Void Beyond; which rang a bell to him for some reason. He knew he hadn’t heard of this place before, but he couldn’t help but think he had heard of somewhere similar… or somewhere with a similar name anyway… from one of the more peculiar men he had met in his travels… he was forcibly brought back from his thoughts though, before he could put a name to the face in his head, as the armored thing kept speaking.
This place was a world beyond reality, where death had no meaning and time did not exist. At least, this was how Lorenzo understood it. It certainly fit the name of the place, that was for sure. He was also to fight fiends to gain “valor and fortune.” And that explained everything to Lorenzo. See, this wasn’t the first time Lorenzo had gone to sleep one night, and had woken up the next morning knowing more than he had the night before. He had believed that it was a gift from Hyne; an epiphany of sorts. Now, though, standing in this arena, fully aware what he was about to face, and fully aware that he would have no memory of it, he knew that it wasn’t a gift from Hyne, but rather a reward, for completing some test or challenge. And it looked like it was time for round two. And that was all he needed to know. Most men would tremble at the prospect of an onslaught of monsters, even with the knowledge that they could not die. But not Lorenzo. He was ready to be injured and maimed and tortured to prove himself to his God.
And so, he didn’t even wait for the man to stop talking, he took a step back, and raised his spear into his hands, prepared for the battle to come. His ears perked at the words “Hyne’s beloved daughters,” a term that made him scoff. Yeah, maybe a couple thousand years ago; now Sorceresses were twisted and corrupted creatures unworthy of being related to Hyne. He shook the thought from his head, however. There was no point in dwelling on any one point in this world, as it was not as though he would remember any of it in the end anyway.
So, with his mind clear and his body ready, the being that Lorenzo would now come to imagine as a sort of Avatar or ethereal servant to Hyne, vanished, leaving in its place, a large pillar of flame. The fire was short-lived, vanishing as well, and in the center of where the flame pillar had been, there was a floating creature. Red, round, mean-looking, with stubby little arms and sharp jagged teeth. Little bits of flame and smoke were coming off of this little monster, and as it moved, cracks opened and closed along its skin, showing what appeared to be a molten core within. A bomb. A very common enemy across Gaia. There were several breeds of bomb, some more dangerous than others, and Lorenzo had no doubt that this would likely be one of the more challenging breeds… however, all bombs still shared one obvious weakness, that even the most novice adventurer should know of. Indeed, bombs were the go-to example of a fire type fiend, and everyone knew that fire monsters were weak to ice attacks.
And, as luck would have it, Lorenzo did happen to know an ice-based spell. Just the one, but it would still be a major advantage here. Turning his spear in his hand, he stabbed the head of the spear into the ground, a difficult maneuver, considering the smooth hard marble-like material it seemed to be made out of. Under ordinary circumstances, he would say a short prayer to Hyne before casting, usually in the form of a specialized Hyne-centric incantation for the spell. However, considering that he was currently trying to prove himself to the great God, he somehow didn’t think it would be appropriate to ask for additional help. So, wordlessly, he clasped his hands together, and there, about six inches above the butt of his spear, appeared an orb of ice, roughly the same size and shape of the bomb itself. Then, with all the speed he could muster, Lorenzo ripped his spear out of the ground, and held it over his shoulder. Swinging it like a baseball bat, he smacked the floating orb of ice, sending it launching at the little ball of hot fiery death. Lorenzo wasn’t finished, however; using the momentum of his swing, he continued moving, turning on the spot, and as he moved, a second orb of ice formed directly where the first was a few moments previous. By the time Lorenzo had made a full 360 degree turn, the second ball of ice had fully formed, and it too was launched directly at the bomb. Lorenzo completed the flowing turn be spinning his spear in his hand, and slamming the butt of it into the ground once more, holding it steady in front of him, in a defensive position, ready for the bomb’s reaction.

The bomb shakes violently as the blizzard spells smash into it and seemingly in response the bomb starts to swell up in size before it rushes straight at you and violently explodes in a flower of fire and rock.
Behind you as the bomb explodes erupts a loud howl of a beast that suddenly appears as a large white hairy creature that smashes itself into you sending you flying across the arena allowing you to see its large wild grinning mouth with sharp teeth and two large ears, with another Howl the beast resumes its charge at you slamming itself into you once more sending you flying far.

Lorenzo braced himself against the explosion, managing to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground, though he certainly felt the glaring heat of the blast sear the hair off of his arms and melt the fabric of his fishnet sleeves to his skin. He grimaced in pain, as the blast subsided. Before feeling had completely returned to his arms, however, he found himself flying through the darkness, his back aching as though he had just fallen down a flight of stairs. Apparently monster number two was already waiting in the wings for when the Bomb exploded. Keeping a firm grip on his spear, Lorenzo landed hard on his knees, and had barely managed to get to his feet when he was hit once more, again being forced several feet forward. This time, though, it was less of a shock, and he managed to recover his senses quickly from here, turning while airborne and landing spryly on his feet, facing the new foe.
He held his spear aloft in front of him as he took in the site of the creature. It was not nearly as recognizable as a Bomb, that was for sure. It was white, squat, and furry, with long flappy ears. It looked a bit like a snout-less wolf, though there were several other key differences between this creature and a typical canine. Lorenzo didn’t spend much time analyzing, though; he may not recognize the beast for what it was, but wolf-like monsters were hardly a rare occurrence, and for the most part, they were all relatively easy to dispatch, provided the fighter kept a level head. So, shifting the spear in his hands, Lorenzo lunged forward, easily closing the gap between the monster and himself, and thrusting the spear downward, into the beast’s side. Blood emerged from the wound, staining the white fur a shiny red. Lorenzo then twisted the spear, and the beast wimpered in pain, sparks arching themselves in all directions, outward from the wound. With his attack made, Lorenzo jumped backwards once more, putting distance between himself and the creature’s sharp teeth.

The Beast steps backwards its grin still plastered across its face before magical energy starts to build up and the sky cracks down striking you violently twice in quick succession
Lightning fell from the sky, striking Lorenzo directly on the top of his head, in spite of the large lightning-rod-like spear in his hands. But, then, that’s how thunder magic worked. And magic attacks were something Lorenzo was more than prepared for. The lightning, hitting his head, bounded off, a bit like a rubber ball, arching away for Lorenzo, and directly to the furry monster, blasting it with its own spell. Lorenzo’s lips turned up in a triumphant chuckle, as he watched the creature’s fur stand up on end from the electricity. Though the silent laugh was short lived, as it caused a sharp pain in his side, reminding him of his burns and sprained back. Well, he would just have to take care of that, then, wouldn’t he?
Spinning his spear in his hand, he held the weapon behind him, holding out his other arm. From Lorenzo’s fingertips long tendrils of white light reached out, spiraling together to form a single long spike. A single long spike that then pierced the beast. The spike retracted again, quickly, and there, impaled by the tip, was a ball of red light. As the spike and tendrils returned to Lorenzo’s hand, the red ball of energy was taken into his hand, absorbed into his body. Instantly, Lorenzo felt the burns on his arms heal.
It wasn’t exactly a comfortable feeling, but he had a way to help with the burning sensation. Ice. Chills ran down his shoulders and arms, a ball of ice forming in his hand this time. With a showy run forward, he swings his arm wide, tossing the orb of ice forward, rolling it as though he were ten-pin bowling. The ball collides ironically square in the beast’s face.

The Beast continues to grin even as your spells seemingly hit it hard while you feel refreshed. The Beast rushes you hard and fast its grin still wild and its eyes seemingly full of madness as its large heavy form slams into you knocking you back allowing it to slam into you once more.
The bruises on Lorenzo’s ribs were just finishing healing up when he was slammed again, hard. The beast ramming its head up, under Lorenzo’s torso, and lifting him skyward, bashing into him again on his way down, and sending him stumbling a few feet back. Lorenzo looked at the beast, holding his side. The animal must be approaching the end of its rope, there was no doubt. Lorenzo, on the other hand, had a sore side, but was otherwise fine. This battle would be over soon. Lorenzo, spun his spear in his hands, thrusting it forward and upward, in a maneuver that left a large slice along the side of the beast’s face. Then, spinning the spear as soon as it reached the height of its trajectory, Lorenzo brought it downward; stabbing it right through the beast’s head, in what he would assume would be a killing blow. Lorenzo ripped the spear from the creature’s head and lunged back, ready for what was to come.

The Bandersnatch snaps its jaws at your spear as you try to skewer it, maliciously it marks the shaft of the spear as you pierce it, its eyes burning into yours, sending an eerie chill down your spine before it fades away.
Battle II WIN: +300XP/GIL [500Exp/Gil total]
Before the chill travelling down your spine passes you hear an unnerving sound behind you and as you turn you are greeted by your shadow slashing its twisted claw across your chest rapidly and you feel a darkness attempting to take over but soon fails.
Lorenzo scowled with distaste as the dying Bandersnatch snapped at his spear. It would take him days to buff those marks out. Assuming, of course, that they didn’t repair themselves when Lorenzo awoke from this time-altering dream. A point that Lorenzo was forced to remind himself of. He ripped the spear out of the cloud of fog and mist that used to be the bandersnatch, and turned, just in time to receive a claw to the chest. The claw itself, consisting of what seemed to be an ethereal shadow, was of little concern, as it barely even punctured Lorenzo’s thick padded coat. Another piece of equipment he’d need to repair. But, underneath the coat, the attack was barely more than a paper cut. It stung, but was nothing to be concerned with. No, of greater importance was what happened to Lorenzo’s vision when the attack hit. His periphery failed him, it was as though tunnel vision was attempting to cloud his sight. Except it wasn’t true tunnel vision, as it followed the movements of Lorenzo’s eyes. This was something he had experienced before. Artificial blindness. This shadowy thing was an enemy that could hinder an opponent’s sight. Lorenzo had managed to stave off the darkness, for now, but knew that any further attack could be more damaging than it would at first seem. And so, ignoring the gouges in the side of his spear, he spun it around, and launched himself forward at the shade, piercing it. Rather than pulling the spear out of the strangely solid darkness, Lorenzo twisted it, and yanked it to one side. It was almost as if he were trying to cut something in half using a blunt pole. In fact, it was exactly like that, as the shaft of the spear ripped its way roughly out the side of the creature.

The strange beast reels backwards as your thrusts connect and once your assault is over the creature rises from the ground, its long flat claws reach around to its chest making some strange sort of gesture a couple of times before it falls to the ground.
Lorenzo watched the creature's movements. Was it trying to do something? Lorenzo had seen Creeps before, they weren't all that uncommon around his home city of Esthar. But, considering how much he traveled, it had been a long while since he had last seen one, and probably a great deal longer since he had fought one. Not to mention the abilities, and even appearances, of some monsters were regional. An Ochu in Spira looks nothing like an Ochu in Balamb. So, even if he could manage to remember the Creeps' capabilities, he wouldn't really be able to rely on that knowledge in this place. Obviously, though, from the last series of attacks, blindness was one of the things he'd need to keep an eye out for. No pun intended. And he had no intention of letting himself fall victim to something so trivial as that. He held out his spear, horizontally, and on either end a heavy ball of ice formed. He leaped forward, a bit less gracefully as usual, given the added weight on his spear. He slammed one end of the barbell-shaped rod over the creature's head, the ball of ice shattering on impact. He spun the spear around and repeated the process, shattering the other ball of ice as well, sharp shards of frozen water fell over the shadow.

The Creeps seems to be knocked backwards through the air by your strong magical ice blasts and as it recovers it slinks back into the ground before it dashes towards you its sharp claws raising up and slashing straight across your chest with two swift violent swipes.
Lorenzo stood as the creature slashed at his chest once more, this time without the darkness pervading his eyesight. Aside from a few more tears in his favorite trench-vest, he was majorly unharmed. As soon as his opponent fell to the ground once more, he stomped his feet, sumo-style. With each stomp a pillar of ice erupted from the ground, piercing the creature. He sighed as the ice shattered, raining sharp shards down upon the enemy. He was really running out of creative ways of casting the exact same spell.

The Creeps hand rises up weakly as the blizzard spells fatally wound it, desperately trying to at least wound you as it calls down a large crack of thunder to rip through you.

As the shadow fades a small green thing drops down from the sky bouncing on the ground twice, flipping in the air before you can get a good look at it. Stood before you was a armed and legged cactus like creature that was bouncing around on its feet as its arms snapped up and down interchangably. It was a Cactuar.
Event Battle IV: Cactuar Event Theme: Battle on the Big Bridge. Battlefield: The Void Beyond - Do not heal between Battles.
Lorenzo smirked slightly as the Creeps writhes, summoning its last ounce of strength into a powerful spell, which, as expected, rebounded right off Lorenzo as though it were nothing. This smirk ran away from Lorenzo's face immediately, though, as the next opponent appeared. A Cactuar. These small, goofy-looking creatures were not to be under-estimated, they were a real threat. Lorenzo would have to move quickly if he were to have any hope. As the lightning from the Creeps arced away from Lorenzo, he thrust forward his spear, horizontally in front of him, and two more arcs of lightning raced from either end of his spear towards the little green plant-creature.
