Cloud found himself standing in Midgar once again. His broadsword was kept in the holster on his back, hanging just below his waist if he were to need to battle quickly - and that all depended on whether or not anyone recognized him or cared. The sword was technically stolen ShinRa property, but it was just a sword and it wasn’t like the corporation couldn’t afford one sword to be missing. There was a scowl plastered across his face as he glanced around the area, he had come back for one reason and one reason only, to get a ride so he wouldn’t have to be walking everywhere. He had something in mind, but now he just had to find the right person.
“Now where did it say he was…” he mumbled, thinking back to rumors he heard as a patrolling infantryman. Of course the answer was the slums, the problem was he couldn’t remember precisely where.
The best place to look obviously was the Wall Market. Walking quickly and keeping himself to a low profile so he didn’t draw much attention the spiky blonde made his way to the bar. He only knew the slums well enough to patrol properly when he needed to, otherwise he avoided them. He stepped up to the counter, turning down the offer of a drink from the barkeep - he didn’t have the extra money to spend.
“I’m lookin for a guy who deals in transport, I don’t remember his name.”
The barkeep laughed rather loudly and motioned out the door. “Oh you Scruffy! You’ll probably find that ol’ perv hangin’ around the Honey Bee” he mentioned. The bartender didn’t exactly seem to be the most…sober…of men.
Cloud mumbled a quiet “Thanks” and turned tail right out the door, the fabric on his hip flapping with the sudden movement. He headed from the bar down the pathway, around a corner toward the bright and garish pink lights that lit up a whole corner of the market. He grimaced, remembering this place from various tales from the other infantrymen. He knew you had to be a member…so he was hoping with his whole being that he wouldn’t have to actually go in and that Scruffy would be outside.

Indeed Scruffy sat outside of the Honey Bee, sipping some sort of ale and trying to figure out his way into the establishment. A gruff laugh peltering from his face hole, he'd take a long swig from a bottle and wipe his dirtied sleeve across his lips afterwards. He waited there in line, wanting to get inside, to see those girls. Ah the girls indeed just the thought brought a goofy grin and an equally goofy laugh from his form, he looked around a bit as the day had dragged on, the line barely moving as few left the Honey Bee today. Maybe he should go and work on something, but at the same time business of any sort had been nonexistent there in the slums. Having been standing for hours, he finally gave up for the moment and moved off and out of the waqy, moving to sit down beside a wall looking at the Honey Bee.
Bah.. Midgar used ta be a great town! now lookit how we live, damn Shinra...
Grumbling audibly as he took another swig from his bottle, he brough it to his ear and shook it some. Hear what bit of fluid that was left inside slosh around, he'd bring the mouth of the botle to his eye. Glancing into it's depths before groaning and pushing himself up. He was almsot out of drink and needed more, with this he turned and began shambling off and towards the nearby bar.
Bah.. Midgar used ta be a great town! now lookit how we live, damn Shinra...
The comment drew Cloud’s attention almost immediately - that was for sure. The blonde turned about, attempting to put a face with the voice. One of the bouncers? He looked over the both of them. No, they wouldn’t say that about ShinRa, at least half of the sleazy executives and employees kept the Honey Bee in business. Someone in line? He glanced over the few people waiting outside. Most likely not. None of them looked like they would have that type of voice.
As he kept looking around, an older man starting to leave caught his attention. The man looked to be rather disgruntled, just enough that he might badmouth ShinRa out in the open for everyone and their pervy brother to hear.
Cloud moved quickly to start walking beside the man, headed for the exit of the area and back into the Wall Market.
“Are you Scruffy?” he asked, hoping to whatever higher power that he found the right person. The ex-infantryman hated it here anymore and just wanted to leave again, but he came back because he knew no better place to find a good vehicle. The constant patrols reminded everyone of ShinRa’s control and that they were always watching.

Scruffy kept mumbling a bit as he shuffled onwards, hearing Someone come nearer to him and asking if he indeed was Scruffy, his only response to such wasn’t one of a friendly greeting.
Hrmm.. Who’s askin, not some Shinra lacky looking for im are ye?
A side glance over his shoulder at the one who’s voice had claimed his ear’s as he moved, pausing a moment to really look the boy over. He had a Soldier feel to how he looked, Rubbing a hand over his beard some as he studied the young man only to give a shrug of his shoulders.
Mmm nope though. Got the wrong Man, think he’s in the Honey Bee Inn.. or dead.. never can tell these days…..
He turned and continued on his way, shuffling towards the bar nearby, still mumbling about how life had turned to hell when Shinra seemed to have taken over. He wasn’t worried about if Shinra would do anything to him, he was an old man at the edge of his own life, Shinra knew it, he knew it.. and that made certain he wasn’t of any threat to them. As for the Young man and what he wanted, Scruffy was merely testing him, would he persue talking to him still, or venture off to find out for sure if he was at the Honeybee and then come looking for him. Verifying his determination for whatever it may be he wanted to talk to the old man for.
Though, Cloud had this lead and he wasn’t going to go anywhere. When asked if he were a ShinRa lackey he made a face that spelled disgust, even if outwardly he didn’t say anything just yet. When given the chance, he spoke. “No, I’m not. Damn ShinRa and their puppets - every last one of ‘em.” His brow was furrowed with slight irritation; no one had asked him that in a while. As the older man started to walk away the blonde kept up pace, walking next to him. “Then can you at least tell me what he looks like? I left before but came back - mostly because I’ve heard that he’s good at finding people ways to get around.” Cloud paused, certainly giving the man a moment to respond, but asked another question after a short pause. “Or at least can you tell me where I can find him.”
Cloud was desperate; he needed some form of transportation to get around outside of Midgar, he definitely didn’t plan on walking from town to town, continent to continent. He was able, that’s just something he would definitely not want to do if he could avoid it.

A low grumble permeating from his lips, Scruffy hobbled onwards still as Cloud decided to follow along. Keeping pace as he seemed more then a little irritated at being called part of Shinra, Scruffy chuckled some what at the response that was emitted. Glancing at the young man a bit as he led onwards, moving towards the bar still.
hrmf.. Desperate to find thie Scruffeh fellow eh, whats the need to find im so bad? win the Shinra lottery er somethin?
They would reach the bar as Scruffy headed on inside, moving itno the smokey atmosphere to take a seat at a nearby table. He sat down a little shakily as his old bones wouldn't allow much when it came to quicker movements. Looking to see the Cloud fellow having following him in as well, his identity would be broken though when another patron howled out a hello to the old man.
Oi Scruffy! didnt get in tha Honey today either eh? Bwahahahahaah..
It seemed to be a knee slapper of a joke as the man took quite a thrill in asking him that, sighing though he'd just motion o the barkeep for a heavy drink. Not needing to say what exactly since he was in there enough that it didn't need to be said.
The blonde continued to follow the man who claimed not to be Scruffy, but at the very least seemed to know him. As he was posed the question Cloud let out a small cough as the smell of smoke and alcohol smacked him in the face as the two of them entered the bar. He still hadn’t stopped walking with the older man even though it seemed that the man didn’t want company. He sat down across the table from him, keeping distance but able to keep eye contact if he could. As the man’s name was called out Cloud smiled softly - so this man really was Scruffy.
“So I did find you…” he mentioned calmly. “I hear you know where or how I can get a bike. I want out of Midgar, but I had to come back ‘cause I realized walkin’ everywhere wasn’t my brightest idea.” He paused after he said that, but followed it up shortly. “So I came to find you.” He leaned back slightly, choosing not to get anything to drink. “Can’t really pay you much, but I’ll work for it if I have to.”

A grumble as he didn't look at the young man after he'd been called out, more giving the other fellow a good stern glare before looking at him once more. Sitting back in the chair some and letting out a gruff sigh, he listened to what the boy wanted sitting there.
Hrmph.. Walkin is good fer ya you know... Sides... yer gonna need a large chunk O gil and metals fer any type of vehicular contraptification you want...
it wasn't a quick or easy process making a vehichle, especially with Shinra about and wanting to keep a hold on most things manufactured or built. Looking him over a bit, he wondered if Cloud was up to the task of gathering minerals, metals and even saving up the amount of Gil it would take to get it all built.
Hrmm.. either way, yes Ah am Scruffy. And you are?
He'd at least need to get the young mans name if he were to get a list together or idea of what type of transport he wanted, if it was any form of an airship then he'd be out of luck there. Scruffy had never been one to keep his mind in the clouds like Lindblums Cid did.
His one word answer was quick and simple, but it was his name. He sighed and continued to speak.
“I used to work for ShinRa, but I quit. Couldn’t take it anymore.”
He paused again, this time to lean forward a bit. His movement caused the ring in the wolf’s mouth on his shoulder pad to jingle a bit. The blonde crossed his arms, left over right so that the black draped fabric covered most of both arms. He seemed a little agitated, like he didn’t even want to be back here in Midgar - which was definitely true. He wasn’t nervous, just wanted to get out as quick as he could - and this was making that difficult.
“I know it’ll take a lot - I’ll collect materials myself if I have to. I need a way to get around somewhat quickly. Walking takes too long.”
Cloud sighed, leaning back ever so slightly, thinking if this was the right idea or not. It had to be, he didn’t have anyone else he could possibly turn to short of stealing a bike or car from the ShinRa headquarters, and that would spell near certain death with all of the guards and mechanical monstrosities running around that the ‘power company’ had created.

Rubbing his chin , tugging at his beard a bit as Scruffy stared at the boy. He pondered somewhat, thinking over the base materials he'd need to craft a new vehicle, as well as how long it may take to do so.
hrmmm.. what type of transportation where you hoping for? Buggy? Airship? Bikes?
Scruffy did need to know, it would help in what materials he'd need to make the machine. He didn't bother with a drink as he'd get up, only having been sat their for more then a couple of minutes. He'd shuffle on out of the bar, moving along the dirt pathways he headed back into the slums more. Moving towards his workshop which was off and out of sight, enough so that if Shinra ever came snooping around they wouldn't be able to find it. Or they just wouldn't bother trying to find it, as it would be more trouble then the soldiers ever cared to bother with.
Gonna take a month to get the base frame built once ya get tha parts. And it's gonna require ye to travel still away from Midgar, will need Mithril and Steel regardless of what ye want. Mithril will be the harder part to aquire, can try the caves just past the chocobo ranch past the Zolom's land. Will have to catch one of the few Airships that land up top if ye dun wanna walk.
Scruffy would look to Cloud after talking to him, as he's sure the young boy had been following along with him still. Studying the boy again before speaking up once more, scritching his chin as he spoke.
It'll be up to you to get them supplies, i'll work up a list for what else i'll need when ya get back with that.. will be able to start on the frame once ye get the metals to mahself. Not sure who you'd be able to catch when it comes to airships.. theirs a few regulars I hear but i'll leave that to you. you'll need five hundred pounds of steel and three hundred Mithril... got that?
Looking at Cloud to see if he was comprehending the start of this request.
Cloud just continued to listen to the older mechanic as the man kept talking on and on. He was about to respond to the first question when the man stood up and started to leave the bar. That caught Cloud off guard but he got up and followed after him. Before he could answer as he had intended the man started talking again.
A month once I get the supplies…alright, that’s doable… Still travelling…gonna have to find an airship or someone to help transport…no way I can carry that on my own… Cloud’s thoughts were keeping in pace with the man’s talking. He knew of the mithril mines…getting past the Midgar Zolom without an airship or something was another problem in its own right. The spiky blond just kept listening, trying to plan out a course of action while he listened. The biggest problem he could forsee would be paying them.
When Scruffy finally finished talking Cloud nodded, he understood what was needed. He let out a sigh and looked up toward the plate. “Steel and Mithril…got it.” He brought a hand up to his face, thinking he may have bit off a little more than he could chew. Though it wouldn’t stop him. He stepped slightly away from Scruffy and toward the door. “To answer your question…I’d like a bike. A place to store this” he paused and motioned to the oversized blade he wielded, “would be good too.”
Post by delfisweetwater on Dec 6, 2012 1:07:45 GMT
Scruffy would glance at him as he mentioned that it would indeed be a bike, as well that it had to carry the blade he had upon his back. Moving to the Boy before he left, he took out a tape measure from a table nearby upon passing. He'd slide it open and measure from hilt to tip on the blade, then moving and measuring the width and diameter of the blade. Taking the measurements down he'd nod and motion him that he could be on his way.
Alright on yer way, i'm gonna have to start drawing up designs and such fer this machine.
He'd leave Cloud to be on his way to begin his journey to find the start of his materials, half mumbling a bit as he'd turned away and moved further into his shop. He had half finished projects all around the place, hanging from the celing, mounted to walls and more. The entire place looked to be in a state of disarray, but their was a smaller table near a corner with a light over it that he'd take a seat at. He'd pull out a large piece of paper and begin preliminary sketches, mumbling that this would have to put to shame anything Shinra could pull out of their butt's. Otherwise he left Cloud to Find his own transport to go about getting the material he needed.
Cloud couldn’t help but smile a very small smile when he caught the mumbling from the elder man about showing up ShinRa. That in itself was good enough for Cloud to be glad that he chose to find Scruffy. He stepped out the door and slipped the blade back into the holder that hung from his back. With a sigh, he looked up at the plate and headed off in the direction of the nearest train station. How else was he supposed to get up to the plate? That of course was not even a question, the only way up was via train.
The blonde made his way from the wall market in the direction of the children’s park, he needed to get to Sector 7 before anything else, to get to the train station. Hopefully no one from ShinRa would be patrolling, he really didn’t want a confrontation - especially since he quit the organization. He kept a fairly low profile, even though his clothes were somewhat nice compared to many of the inhabitants of the slums. In fact underneath the drapes and shoulderpad his outfit almost resembled the outfit of a SOLDIER. Either way, he gathered himself and stepped out of the more inhabited area and actually into the park.
Only one or two groups of children were even playing, though they were happy enough. Cloud didn’t make that much of a noise to them. In fact he was really only passing through. All he saw was the park from a distance. Making a left as he exited wall market he stepped right through the gate to sector 7, left open because it was still daytime and the fiends weren’t as big of a threat during those hours, even when the sun barely shined through the upper plate. As he stepped into the main part of Sector 7 he had the small idea to stop at the bar, just to take a short break. He caught himself and shook his head, walking straight through toward the train yard and in fact ignored anyone who attempted to get his attention as he passed through.
After of course another few minutes of walking he finally arrived at the station that was headed up. Lucky for him he still had his ID, he didn’t need to change it much, just update with ShinRa that he no longer worked for ShinRa, so he could still get up to the upper plate. Not like he was staying above the plate long anyway. He needed to find someone with an airship that was willing to cart him around for either no cost, low cost…or just having Cloud work for it.

The Train was already parked in the station, two guards standing outside chatting with one another. They'd give Cloud a glare and look him over but took notice of how his outfit looked, They to thought he was in soldier and went back to their conversation for the time being.
The Train was mostly empty save for three other people sitting at the far end of the main car, One with his arms crossed and head lowered. Could be heard snoring as he sat, another was a woman staring out of a window dressed more in a business attire. The Third another man was sitting with his head on his hands, clenched together and elbows on his knees. When Cloud would finally board the train he'd look him over a bit then go back to seemingly stare into space.
Outside a conductor stepped out and checked the time while looking across the platform, seeing no one else waiting to board really he'd make his announcement.

Cloud’s thoughts easily settled on that statement while he walked past the guards. Perhaps that was part of the reason his clothing choice seemed reminiscent of a SOLDIER. He definitely wasn’t one, that was true yet his swordplay could easily stand up to some of the cadets. It was something that he’d attempted many times and yet he never was able to get through the entrance training to actually become a member of the organization.
The looks from the guards also put him on edge. It gave him a reason to stay on edge.
The blonde swordsman took a seat on the cart near the door, and in that right away from the other people that were on this specific car. He rested his blade vertically against the seat next to him, giving him easy access should he need the oversized weapon. His whole demeanor seemed to just say ‘don’t mess with me.’ Silently, of course, he looked down across the car. The goal here was to get a read on the other people - mainly to know if he should bother speaking with any of them.
The one was asleep; the woman didn’t seem to be bothered at all by anything - though why she was looking out the window confused the hell out of Cloud. There was nothing to really see below the plate other than a lot of junk. He caught the eye of the third person just as the other man went back to staring into space. His eyes narrowed slightly, wondering. He figured that the man was doing the same thing he was. Other than that, Cloud went back to silently minding his own business.
He heard the call from the conductor, and about a minute later the train started to move.[/style] [style=font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN[/style]

As Cloud entered the train and settled in, his own eyes checking over everyone in the car. The doors to the trained sealed shut as moments later it would lurched, the tug and movement as the train pulled onward. It took a few minutes to get up to speed, the slight bump and clicks as the train moved along the tracks. The lights flickering from time to time as it moved along, light passing by the windows outside as well. A terminal light brightly by one one of the doors, a small guide of the track system flickering by on it with a dot following the train. After a couple of moments, the door at the other end of the train car opened with a taller man stepping through it. Nearly having to duck as he entered the car and glanced around, eyeing over the people that were within the car his eyes stopping on Cloud.
Oi! Midget! why for are you in mah Cah Didjoo Think ye would be takin ah ride without meh permission?
Getting anywhere in Midgar tended to be troublesome when people like the man that was now crossing the train towards Cloud, the burly coat only adding to the man's size as the few other passengers did their best to act as if nothing was happening within the train.

He closed his eyes, keeping his ears open for when this jerk got right up next to him.
He knew that was coming. His car? Tch, yeah. Right. Ignoring the other man, the spiky blond wasn't concerned with this man's 'permission' or whatever. As soon as you stepped out of the train your attention would be drawn to a young man dressed in a black suit with an open button black shirt. He was stood against a pillar with his arms crossed while a dirty looking young girl was kneeling beside him with her hands around his leg. The young man had his head turned to the side and was trying to ignore this young girl until she reached up and grabbed the botton of his black jacket. He was almost pulled down to her level when he grabbed her wrist with one hand and shoved her aside. She fell to the ground grabbing her wrist as she looked back to him.
"Don't waste my time, I don't charter just anyone on my airship kid."
This young girl wasn't going to take no for an answer as she began to slowly crawl back towards him, the young man sighed and pulled out a hand gun from inside of his jacket pocket and pointed it straight to the girl. She stopped dead in her tracks and with a whimper scuttled off into the crowds. The young man put the gun back into his jacket pocket and resumed his cross armed pose, he was looking around the area as though he was waiting for someone. He didn't seem a day over eighteen and if you heard right he had an airship....was it worth the risk?

That's what I thought...full of hot air. The chocobo-head leaned back in his seat on the train and closed his eyes, aiming to take a bit of a nap on the somewhat short trip. Not like anyone would dare bother a guy that looked like he could be in SOLDIER. After a while, he heard the announcement that the train arrived at the station.
The spiky blond stood, picking his blade up from the area next to him. He stepped off of the train and slid the large weapon into the holster that hung from his belt. The exchange between the man and the young girl was not missed, it drew plenty of attention especially when he pulled a gun. One of the more spoiled women let out a startled scream when she noticed it.
With a sigh, Cloud walked over to this black haired airship pirate with his hands at his sides. "If that's the case what kind of people do you charter?" He asked cooly. "I need a way to transport large amounts of steel and mithril."[/style] [style=font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN[/style]

He kept his arms firmly crossed over his chest as he looked out over the train platform, every so often he would let his gaze follow someone for longer than usual before returning to his almost dream like state.
"I don't charter idiots on mythic quests that don't exist."
Out of nowhere he answered your question and he was now looking at you, his dark eyes wandered over you before looking away to watch the train pull away from the platform. The young airship captain suddenly pushed himself up straight and began to walk away slowly.
"Those ores can be pretty heavy and I expect you want my crew to lift the damn stuff into my airship as well? Hiring and man power costs gil. If you have at least 3K meet me outside of Midgar by the chocobo ranch, I don't land my airship in this sort of place."
{If you have 3K head straight for the chocobo ranch, if you don't have enough just make your post without leaving the immediate area.}

The black haired pilot seemed extremely touchy about everything, staring off into space at random people but getting down to business when the time came.
Cloud listened carefully to the man's demand that if he and his crew were to do it that they be paid. The ex-ShinRa glanced down to his side and let out a soft sigh. Three thousand gil was just about all he had. Luckily enough, Cloud was still at the train station and could head back down into the slums to sneak out one of the side doors with little notice.
With the pilot now gone and the next train boarding, Cloud found himself headed back down under the plate. Now though, he had a mission and didn't have the time to stop anywhere. The one good part about having been in ShinRa was that he knew how to leave the Mako City.
He sat down in the car and took the several minute long train ride back down into Sector 7. From there, he made his way through the slums and to the gigantic wall that surrounded the city of Midgar. With a bit of talk to an old ShinRa contact he was able to leave once again.
Outside, he made sure that he had everything and headed off on the trek toward the Chocobo Ranch.

As you approached the ranch you would see a magnificent airship set a ways back from ranch and several people gathered around the ranch chatting and looking at the chocobos. Although as soon as they saw you they dispersed and boarded the airship leaving only the young dark haired Captain resting against the wooden fench of the chocobo enclosure. He looked up to you and smirked before setting off to board the airship.
As you were heading to the airship you heard behind you the muffled shouts of several men, they were in face the lowest order of SOLDIER and they were heading your way fast armed to the teeth with weaponry. The Captain didn't even turn back to look at you as he spoke...
"So...are you going to get on the ship or piss about fighting worms like these?"

It didn't seem that either of them were very talkative which meant that this could be a very quiet and easy trip to the Mithril mines.
At least, that's what the chocobo-headed fighter wanted to think. When the SOLDIER grunts started making their way toward the airship he couldn't help but wonder precisely why they were here. Not that he really cared, but if they were after either of them that meant more were to come...maybe.
"Let's go."
Cloud's words were quick and simple as he followed the airship captain onto the vessel with nary a glance behind him.[/style] [style=font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN[/style]
